How About 6 Picks In The First 2 Rounds?

We could have 6 picks in the first 2 rounds and still have our 5th and 6th.

This makes a lot of sense if no stud is there that we want at 17 and if we believe that there is a big drop off after the second round.

This gives us 3 firsts and 3 seconds. Alternatively, we could have 2 firsts, 4 seconds, a 4th, 5th and 6th, by not trading our 4th to move up from 33 ot 30.

I think it's useless to talk about trading into certain picks while not talking about who will be available there.

If the top of the draft falls the wrong way i'd defintely go that route, and there is a good chance that will happen imo as i think there are fewer prospects with first round grades than most years. It's impossible to know their board but I have heard Belichik talk about how many players they had first tround grades on in prior years and it definitely guides howe they approach the draft. They don't care about who Kiper or Mayock have going in the first because they have a system that tells them who deserves a first round grade and who doesn't, and it is specific to their team. If a player they have rated highly is there at #17 or within reach then they'll make it, but if they are cleaned out or too pricey to move up for then I see them moving out and adding picks to move with later.


Right now there are a few players i can see them taking at #17 if available, e.g..Watt, but there is good chance a run on defense and low ratings for offensive players will lead them to move out of the pick.

I've been talking about 5 (2 1sts, 3 2nds) and moving the rest of the picks into next year. I still like that idea. trading both 3rds gets you to the mid 50's according to the chart, and that would allow for 5 quality draft picks and a replenishing of next year's picks. As of now, the Patriots have just 5 picks scheduled for next year, one in each of the first 5 rounds.

I agree that a prospect could fall to them because i think their first round grades are often different than other teams. If it is there and they don't think it will last or need a move that is affordable they'll do it, but if the cupboard is empty they move down and start positioning for the next draft.

You could also argue that we'd have 3 2nd rounders and 3 3rd rounders. We might be picking in the 1st and 2nd 3 times a piece but that late in the round isn't particularly thrilling.
