Re: Brady blamed for Jets Playoff loss

Chris Mortensen said this on WEEI weeks ago. Not news.

I think its news when more and more begin to pile on. When Mortensen said it, it was one man's opinion. Now it is becoming more league wide consensus.

I didn't believe it at the time, but multiple analysts saying it probably means there's some validity to it. It's not beyond Tom to play like crap, he is human.

Brady wasn't great, neither was anyone else on the offense. That's why he was the MVP, because if he doesn't play lights out the team goes down in flames.

Not only did Brady not play lights out. He played poorly. Click on the link. "anyone else on the offense" as you say, didn't all play poorly. As the game tape was reviewed, it is learned that the receivers were doing there job and getting open, "often wide open".

Yes, obviously the line giving up a crap load of sacks to an overaged Ellis and our TEs dropping TD passes was all good. It was all Brady.

There is a difference in being open and being open where you were supposed to be in a read and react defense. There was "confusion" as some apparently acknowledged on pre and post snap reads. Brady and his receivers either weren't always on the same page or the defense crossed them all up by changing what they did pre and post snap look wise...

Maybe some (all) of these analysts who actually did play didn't play in a read and react system...

And the simple fact remains that every time we appeared poised to close the gap, someone either dropped the ball or allowed the JETS to widen it yet again...

Brady played poorly. So did a lot of other Patriots. To single out anyone is unfair and ridiculous.

Patriots wide receivers almost never get "wide open", even when things are clicking, so I'm not buying the phrasing. That being said, Brady's already said that he played poorly.

Cut him  I blame the O-Line especially the interior, Mankins, Koppen, and Connelly. They allowed pressure up the middle on a constant basis. I think along with a pass rusher, the OL is an area of great need.

Agreed, its just that when your paying Brady more than any other player in the history of the NFL, at any position, come playoff time, your hoping for a little more than you got.

Ding Ding Ding. The entire oline needs help, specifically the interior. As important as Mankins can be, I'd had no qualms trading him for a pick to move up in the draft and get a elite caliber center. Tackles>Center>Guard in the hierarchy of Oline, and as long as Koppen us getting man handled by just about every DT in the league, Mankins value to is isn't as high.

Cannot blame 1 person for the loss. But, the OL has done poorly during playoffs (2007 SB, where giants trounced the OL). The OL cannot step-up to the next level, for some reason.

I do think they need to upgrade their OL. Brady does not seem to be mr.-cool, anymore. He use to not get rattled..

And how does paying him more money make him better? Are his skills suppose to improve because his bank account does?

Yes you are correct. The higher a player makes, the greater his skills are suppose to be. You've hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, the reality is, when the player that the team has committed most of its resources to, plays that poorly, it is very difficult to win, especially in the playoffs.

Hey maybe this is a good thing. When we enter the playoffs next season, I mean what are the odds Brady has his fourth consecutive sub par playoff game? Right? He's gotta be due ? Right ?

Brady had a ton of time in the 4th, but the beating he took early was fresh on his mind and he wasn't processing as usual. I'm more upset that he wouldn't hoof it for a first down when the jets dropped 7 and 8.

He was in pain... You never know what hit may have made it worse. He definitely did not have the spirit he had in the Pitt or blowout Jets game.

With the exception of Drew Brees vs. Seattle, which playoff quarterback was not blamed for the team's loss this year?

Agreed. No single person is to blame for the loss. However we know for a fact that neither Brady or the offense played to the level that they are capable of. With that said, Brady has had a number of playoff games in which he was not even at best, average, but won anyway because of the defense.

Speaking about the defense, they did not exactly distinguish themselves vs the NYJ.

It was a team loss with the blame pie being divided up equally.
