Matt Light Doesnt Think a New CBA Deal will get done anytime soon.

Matt light is in a tough situation here, as a free agent he isnt going to be able to negotiate with other teams, he also has to fear the patriots replacing him in the draft before free agency can actually happen.

If Matt is correct and a deal isnt done soon (and i mean within 2 weeks) the offseason is going to be very messy indeed, and after march it will start to effect the 2011 season as minicamps and OTAs start to cut down on the coaching players will recieve which would have prepared them for 2011.

Bottom line, posts about FA trade, and even the draft is so moot right now, because even though the draft will happen, it will seem so hollow... no deal by march , get ready for a long long long offseason... I say as fans we need to step up.. The Greedy owners are the ones causing all this.. the players are trying to give... but its the owners who dont know how to seperate billions from millions... Yes all of us fans will go back after a strike, even though we say we wont, but canceling your direct tv, dont go to games for a year or 2 , write letters to nfl .com... Let the voice of the fan be heard...

The Patriots (Bob Kraft in particular) are pushing hard for a new CBA because they know that a lockout could effect them detrimentally more than the majority of teams.

While many other teams may have alot of veterans on their team who would know how to prepare and get ready in a short amount of time at the end of a late lockout lift (whew), the patriots have more young players on their team than almost any other team in the league, with potentially 7 draft picks in the first 4 rounds, the patriots would be in very rough shape to have to sign all of these players late and have them in camp late as well. you could expect close to no production out of these players in 2011 if a new CBA isnt done soon because it will be so close to the season if not during the season before the lockout would be lifted, of course this goes for all teams as well, but with 2 first rounders who could potentially fill a spot automatically, it could be argued that the lack of preparation and knowing the pro playbook would hold them back tremendously, thus the roster would be bogged down by a bunch of new rookies with limited understanding of the playbook.

I am not sure of this, but the patriots may also not be able to trade their draft picks in 2011 for future draft picks, which is obviously a huge problem.

different owners are in different situation

kraft could live with the 60/40 ratio......kraft is one of the big market teams that designed their facilities that way. he will clean up with the new deal if the small market teams get their way. he also stands to be hurt more than others because of the debts on the facility.

the problem is that there are too many small market teams who will shoot down the whole deal because it doesn't force enough concessions.

right now, this is more than owners versus players.......I believe based on the rhetoric, that there is huge owner versus owner infighting going on......the small market teams are not only trying to arm-twist the players, but they're also trying to arm-twist big market teams for more revenue sharing.

its funny that the minority of small-market teams are going to dictate the outcome....

Matt light is a decent LT and 3 SB winning LT too. He also has made quiet bit of money so i do not think he is much worried. last year when walter was cut for seattle when he has been injured for a few yrs and was 35+ how many people here wanted to sign him in this very forum ?. he will find a nice contract with a team and finish his career in the 7-9 million a year range.
if he takes 7 colts will swoop on him.

Matt Light has never made top tier money and he isn't about to in his last hurrah. He will make $5-6M per on a short term deal - he will be 33 before this season starts if it does. Not sure Indy could afford him even at that given what Manning will cost them either in cap or bonus money, and Polian is scared to death of FA bustitis. He also knows Light is a piece of the puzzle LT and not the kind of talent who elevates an otherwise lackluster OL that is struggling in the absence of Howard Mudd's 12 years of coaching. He doesn't have the kind of blocking TE's on his roster to bolster his OL. Peyton isn't getting sacked, he's getting confused and working with injury prone mid level revolving door receiving talent for a change and his running game is non existent which kills his bread and butter play action. Indy is likely going OL in the first and they are also dealing with the fact that at center Saturday is close to the end of his run.

Let's hope he wrong. And hopefully Matt will be back here and retire a patriot.

But peyton is 35 , they have spend a high 2nd and traded there first to pick a LT who turned in a good first season and then MIA. They use a 7th rd pick who absolutely blows. if you think light is not an upgrade over charlie johnson you are wrong. he decent and they can move him to gaurd and get there injured RT back. THis means a better line what manning had over last 3 yrs after tarik glenn retirement.
