O.K. Knowing what you know so far about the 2011/2012 Patriots team and their needs and if you were in the F.O. and had to make a decision on signing a prized FA who happens to be one of the following FORMER Patriots Legends/Stars of the past but in their prime NOW, which player would you add to the roster and feel free to add why if you wish.

The Patriots Legend/Star that you select will be a player who is in their prime and is at the height of their glory years - for instance if you pick Tippett it does not mean you are picking him on next years team at 55 years of age but picking him as if he were playing in his late 20s or so.

Tippet, he could take over a game on Defense

I want a deep threat this season....'07 Moss would be the answer to that.

Maybe this time around TFB will look at other receivers.

His stats are amazing...but I am too young to recall his highlights. I could not find anything on Youtube. Any ideas where I can find some his highlights?

I would think Moss was actually in his prime in the late 90s early 2000s in his rookie to first several seasons ...kind of an iffy case there.

Given the current makeup of the team, it's got to be Tippett.

How could it not be Tippet? That would utterly transform our defense. We would be Super Bowl favorites, bar none.

just think mayo and tippet

Re: If you were in the Pats F.O. and were able to sign a Patriots Legend/Star .......

Tippet is probably best short term to add immediate pass rush, but Hannah at RG would add to the nastiness of the line. With Hannah and Vollmer we could dominate with a rushing game that could do those 8 minute drives and keep defense off feild

Andre Tippett - Official New England Patriots Biography

I voted Tippett all the way. He gets overshadowed by LT, but he is definitely one of the greatest Outside Linebackers of all time.

Andre Tippett played 11 seasons for the Patriots from 1982-93. He is the second player to earn induction to the Hall of Fame after spending his entire career with the Patriots....Tippett was selected to five Pro Bowls, earning All-Star honors in each season from 1984-88. He played in 151 career games with 139 starts and holds the Patriots franchise record with 100.0 career sacks. He owns the three of the top four single-season sack performances in Patriots history (18.5 in 1984, 16.5 in 1985 and 12.5 in 1987). From 1984-85, Tippett recorded 35.0 sacks, a total that stands as the highest two-season sack total by a linebacker in NFL history. He achieved his record sack totals despite playing his career as a strong-side linebacker (opposite the opposing tight end), a position from which few other players have excelled in the pass rush to the extent that Tippett did.

Mayo is not Tippet, Tippet could just take over a game like L Taylor.

I have no idea. Look for highlights of Lawrance Taylor their play is almost identical, except Tippet was good against the run too.

I chose Curtis Martin, but it was a close call with Andre Tippett.

The reasons for picking Tippett are compelling. He was beyond awesome; a guy that offenses had to plan around and who gave QB's happy feet. We could sure use some of that!

But, I picked Martin because I think that Brady's career at an elite level could be extended by a couple of years if we had an RB like Martin who presented the same kind of problems for a D that Andre presented for an Offense.

Bottom line, can I have both? Please, Mr. OP. Let me have both!

But seeing what him and TFB were able to do.....to see it again would be amazing. Of course I'm assuming he'll have the same attitude he had in '07.

I'd say the same thing about Randy Moss in his prime on the other side of the ball. He'd be unstoppable with Brady throwing to him.

For me it was a toss up between Hog Hannah and Tippett.
But our defense could use more help than the offense.

Could you imagine having an interior of Mankins and Hannah though.

If you want to pick a player that best prolongs TFB's career, you have to go with Hannah. IIRC Martin wasn't the best at picking up the blitz.
Dillon was pretty good at it though.

Re: If you were in the Pats F.O. and were able to sign a Patriots Legend/Star .......

I voted Tippett because we really need a GREAT linebacker, but I think Ty Law is a close second. Him and McCourty back there? Sweet!! I wouldn't go receiver because Tommy Boy has shown that he can easily make lemonade with whatever lemons are tossed his way. We need defense!!
