( Any chance we can skip the "PFF sucks !" posts ? )

Meriweather ranks dead last on the Patriots defense. ( Lower than Arrington and Ninkovich ? ) Would fit that BB seemed to reduce Meriweather's snaps during the season. Whether you agree with PFF or not, the question is whether Meriweather gets traded on draft day as opposed to giving him a fat new contract in the near future ?

So, you own stock in that site?

And, for the record, Meriweather led all safeties in number of snaps. So, no, PFF's interpretation would NOT fit with what happened during the season.

I know a lot of players had a good season by the standards we held them to but Arrington, Love, Ninkovich, Fletcher......pretty much every JAG is below Meriweather IMO.

Guys let me try again. Should the Patriots trade Meriweather on draft day or resign him to a large contract in the near future ?

There are other options.

Such as fire the Safeties Coach...

Keep him for the year without signing him to a "large contract", and see how it plays out during the season also comes to mind.

This site sucks, and I'm not going to let the one time I agree with it make me say otherwise.

But it definitely doesn't take whatever sort of analysis they use to be able to definitively say Meriweather had a rough year. He's not good, plain and simple, and the majority of the non-homers on this board will agree with that (thankfully). It'll be a good day when we finally just realize we effed up that first rounder and move on.

Well, I guess my thought that he was the worst defender is completely wrong now, if PFF is saying it.

Neither; why limit it to those two options?

I agree with Deus; keep Meriweather and then decide after the 2011 season on whether or not to re-sign him, or for what price. I don't think it is imperative that the Pats make a decision now. Besides, isn't there a theory that players are most productive in their contract year?

This is pure torture.

OK, OK...fifteen yards for piling on.

It was just too easy given the firing of Corwin Brown the other day.

I don't have anything against PFF, in fact I think any information is appreciated. Statistics are a very useful tool for analysis. I just wouldn't rely on them exclusively to make an assessment, no matter who is putting the numbers together. In the case of Meriweather, I think there is probably more to the story than PFF makes it seem. BM can be an above average FS in the rght circumstances...or not. For this team at this time, I think he's worth keeping for the one year "lets see" like DI says...If the team were rebuilding I might say otherwise. JMHO.

Don't sell the "non-homers" short. The delineation between fans who think Meriweather is good versus those who think he isn't doesn't hinge on the intensity of their fandom, but rather their observational prowess.

What else is new..

Kind of a catch 22.
Meriweather ranks last on the Patriot's defense.........really? Where did you get that from?
In other news, David Garrard is a better qb then Tom Brady......really? where did you get that from?
Breaking News: Matt Light 55th ranked in pass blocking.......Brady must have really sucked this year. Isn't left tackle the most important position on the offensive line? Hmmmmmm, where did you get that from?

That would be rather difficult since it's well-documented this site does, in fact, suck.

Just to reiterate - this is a fan run sight without the aid of coaches' tape.

It's worthless, particularly if we are talking about a safety - they can't even see the safety on half of the plays.
