Mike Reiss just twittered that Bill O'brien will be O coordinator and QB coach..

Patricia to Safeties Coach..

Patrick Graham now LB Coach..

Wonder if BB will still be the D Coordinator???..

So we're sending the putative defensive brainchild-in-training to coach the safeties.

Curiouser and curiouser....

It may make sense, as he needs to know the subleties of more than one position.. he still may be heir apparent. Or is it Pepper???

Twitter
One more tidbit: I don't view Matt Patricia's move to safeties as a demotion. Instead, figure him trying to save the group. I think.

That seems a little overstated, no?

I don't think they need to be saved. I think they need to have their potential realized. Maybe I'm just playing semantics.

I think as you point out learning about more than one position would seem to make him more the heir apparent D coordinator as I believe Pepper has only worked with the front 7.

I was thinking the same thing. Either way if it means the secondary plays better next year than we will be happy. I think there is a lot of talent back there and if they all realize their own potential then this group could be one of the best in the league.

Re: According to Reiss we have an offensive coordinator..coaching changes

I have no problem with O'Brien being given the official title. Apart from the playoff game I thought he did a better job at 1/2 time adjustments, infused new players into the offensive system quickly, had good game plans and got the team to preform at a high-level. Having TB turn in an MVP year can't hurt too.:D

Patricia seems to be the heir-apparent to the DC job. My assumption is that BB likes him, thinks he does a good job and is asking that he take over a position that might need some fine tuning.

I don't know much about Graham other than what I have read. Seems like BB thought he did a good job and a positional assignment seems to be a promotion over a defensive assistant role.

O'Brien shouldn't be promoted he should be fired.

Congratulations to O'Brien on his promotion

Yes congrats to O'Brien and Graham.

Anyone who calls for BOB to be fired this soon is a tool. Seriously. Aside from the Jets/Cleveland games (which just as easily could be chalked up to Brady simply not having a good day) and the misuse of Gronk in that he blocks too much, he's done a damn fine job this season. MUCH better than 09 for sure. Give him two more seasons and if he sucks after that, fine.

The problem is he seems to "pull a Manning" in the playoffs. But I'm willing to give him a chance since he showed some potential this year in the regular season.

It's hard to say he's a "Manning-type" coordinator based on the last two playoff games. Granted, they were both ugly offensive showings, but they can't be pegged all on BOB. In the Ravens game, Welker was out, Light and the Koppen were being abused, Moss was doubled, and the only targets Brady had were Aiken, Stanback, Edelman (who put up a valiant effort I may add, but a rookie nontheless), and butterfingers Benjamin. Then in the Jets game, again, our C and RG were abused, Brady threw a lazy interception, and Pat Chung F'd up a 4th down trick play.

Bottom line, it's unfair of us to criticize BOB based on those two playoff games alone. Once we improve our interior O-line and find some decent RBs to compliment Lawfirm and Woody, i think we'll be back in the championship games.

Given your "if," I think my version's more accurate. :)

Really?!? I wasn't a fan of his going into this year, but he totally revamped this offense on the fly after they trade away Moss and made this the most potent offense in the NFL. Why should he be fired? Because of one game where the whole team played like crap?

There were plenty of big games where both Weis and McDaniels couldn't get the offense to do anything. In fact, in all four Super Bowls, the offense struggled for good stretches.

You are giving him far too much credit for the losses. He didn't call the play last year where the Pats defense allowed Ray Rice run through it like butter. He didn't draw up the gameplan that allowed Sanchez to throw for three TDs. Or the Jets' offense to convert 46% of their third downs.

Why is it that the OC of the moment whether it is Weis, McDaniels, or O'Brien get blamed for every loss.

Re-watching the SB vs the Eagles I was amazed to note that with Dillon in his prime and a young Branch, the O went 3 and out several times. Then I remembered that in football that is what happens quite often. We expect too much from our guys at times.

I thought O'Brien had a great 2010 season.
