The most insightful bit of information I've received all day.

I'm reporting that it won't happen yesterday either.

You heard it here first.

Mankins gets some breathing room and he and the Pats get time to work something out (hopefully :)). Who was the first Kraft/BB player tagged, was it AV:confused: I hate when players end up tagged, sometimes it's a mutually beneficial strategy but sometimes not so much.
One year and 10.51 million then watch him walk...

Wait...Rotoworld is now citing this same insightful report as Patriots will tag Mankins for the second time...LOL

You'd be surprised how many NFL fans think this is his second time. Nobody out there understands RFA tenders, apparently.

You cant blame the Pats for using the Tag and you cant blame the player for being pissed when hes Tagged.

Yup. It still has a bad connotation to me for whatever reason.

Ok.......so they tag mankins and he signs the tender.....that makes the salary guaranteed.........does he still get the money if there is a lockout?

My understanding is that the guaranteed salary only applies if there is a season and games played. The owners will not pay the players salary during a lockout. Period.

I'd assume that if the season is shortened the the pay would be pro-rated per game (though that would presumably be subject to negotiation).

I'm not reading from the CBA - that's just been my assumption. If anyone thinks that's wrong set me straight.

I am pretty sure that Franchise players will not sign the tender offer until after a CBA is done. They would be smart to make sure the tag is still around. Also salaries do not start until September and yes all salaries during a lock out still have to be paid since they are the ones being told not to show up.

No, players are not paid when they are locked out.
They aren't being told not to show up, they are unionized and the owners are not accepting their employment in the absence of a cba

Do the players collect unemployment security? ...just curious

I wouldn't be crying over spilt milk at the franchise tag amount he'll get. Hopefully an amicable resolution can be worked out as Mankins definitely improves the line. The domino effect would be rather large with him re-signing or leaving.

And Mankins put himself in this position. He was playing by the letter rather than the spirit of the rules. Nothing wrong with that, but he shouldn't be pissed when the front office also uses the same philosophy.
