Amukamara and Ijalana

Not making it easy for us message boarders

Just noticed that Carimi and Watkins are still on board for both picks. I'm pretty sure I'd take both over Ijalana.

Of course, ol' Wes has 3 guards going in the first round, so ....

As much as I like Prince falling to us at 17. I believe the needs are elsewhere. Great value though. I guess if Bill deems him best available, he may be the pick if he was to fall that far. I would be a tad dissapointed though.

Ijalana at 28? I know he is getting run as of late, and well deserved. 28, really?

OMG HE HAD US PASS ON ALDON! D: D: D:

(I disapprove)

If the draft board unfolded this way I would take Aldon Smith at 17, Gabe Carimi at 28 and trade down a few spots from 33 and take Wilkerson.

This should go into the "Draft fail" thread.

Seriously, I like Prince and all but... FAIL.

If Wilkerson has a good combine, I would not be surprised to see BB trade down a few spots from #17 and take Wilkerson.

Your picks would be far superior to what Bunting gave us!:rocker:

His draft for us is horrible!

17. Instead of: Prince Amukamara
Give me: Anthony Castonzo, or Aldon Smith, or Mike Pouncey or Nate Solder

28. Instead of: Benjamin Ijalana
Give me: Gabe Carimi, or Phil Taylor, or 17. Instead of: Prince Amukamara
Give me: Anthony Castonzo, or Aldon Smith, or Mike Pouncey or Nate Solder

28. Instead of: Benjamin Ijalana
Give me: Gabe Carimi, or Phil Taylor, or J.J. Watt depending on #17 pick

I prefer A. Smith and J.J. Watt depending on #17 pick

I called going for a CB last week.

In the Patriots' scheme, it makes sense if you can't find the DE or OLB who fills your needs. There are two stud CBs in this draft, and pairing him with McCourty--especially when Belichick refuses to flip his defenders from one side of the field to the other--is a good idea.

I too would go with Carimi later in the first.

The mocks are still all over the place, which is no surprise. I've seen a couple of trends, one of which disturbs me.

Pouncey getting picked up before the 33rd pick and, often, before the 28th pick is a trend I don't like seeing, but it makes sense with both Miami and K.C. really needing O-line help. On the other hand, either Leshoure or Ingram seem to be available at 33 quite often. That has me re-thinking draft order. I was originally thinking

DE/OLB
OLB/DE
OG
WR/RB
RB/WR

The mocks have me thinking a change might be in order*

DE/OLB
OG
RB
DE/OLB
WR

and a trade up to get a 5th second rounder would make that quite palatable to me.

*Of course, Mocks are meaningless in the end, and I'll also probably change my mind several times between now and the draft, as events occur.

I agree that we need another CB but I think we could get one with #33 or #60. I think J Smith from Colorado is moving up draft baords and Prince A is moving down.

Prince would be difficult to pass up. This may indeed somewhat a test of whether Belichick really would take a stud at one position when there is more need elsewhere. My gut says that Belichick wouldn't pass on Prince if he dropped in our laps. The obvious alternatives are Smith, Kerrigan (remember him), Clayborn and Houston.

With regard to Ijalana at 28, the main point is that bunting has an OT. Belichick or dante may indeed prefer Carimi. I tend not to have strong opinions when nailing down which particular player at a position would be drafted. So, if Light isn't re-signed (and that is the current assumption being made), I'm fine with an OT at 28 or an OG if Light is re-signed (Pouncey or the quickly climbing Watkins).

Smith could be the McCourty of this draft. A second round guy that quietly slides up boards and lands in the lower third of the first round.

Without anything resembling a pass rush, we might as well draft more CB's as we will need them badly with QB's like Sanchez having all day to pass.

I don’t think there is a Mankins in this draft. So I don’t see G until #60 or later. I see RB end of 3rd or 4th round and don’t see WR at all unless for special teams.

17 DE/OLB
28 T/DE
33 DE/OLB (more likely traded)
60 G (love Moffit)

I agree mocks are meaningless in the end but they are fun while we wait for the real thing!:singing:

If Prince were indeed the best value at 17, I'd be on board. But I can't see any guard in this draft being worth the #28. I guess if BB were to view Ijalana as an OT that would make sense....a little bit, but he'd be strictly OT, and I view him as strictly a guard.

I like Ijalana. From what I have read, he is thought to be a bit raw and unproven coming from a small school, but with tremendous upside. Dante could work wonders with him, IMO. I would rather take Aldon Smith at 17 than Prince in Bunting's version. If, hypothetically, the Patriots first 3 selections for 2011 went: (17) Aldon Smith, (28) Ijalana, and (33) Muhammad Wilkerson... I think they could be on track for a second consecutive good draft.

What's weird is Bunting has Prince rated as the 35th overall best player. Why does he think CB is such a pressing need that the Pats would pick him 17th? If anything, according to his board wouldn't they at least wait until 28 or 33??? Confusing.

The good news is that if Amukamara fell in our lap, its likely that BB's war room phone would be ringing off the hook. There would be plenty of options.
