20 Most Lopsided NFL Trades: Bleacher report

Ditka gave Washington the No. 12 overall pick and the second, fourth, fifth and sixth-round picks in the 1999 draft. That’s not all. He also gave them first and third-round picks in 2000.

The Cowboys received linebackers Jesse Solomon and David Howard, cornerback Isaac Holt, running back Darrin Nelson, defensive end Alex Stewart, 1990 first, second and sixth-round draft picks, 1991 first and second-round draft picks and 1992 first, second and third-round draft picks.

This is a terrible list.

The two above examples are the probably the worst deals in NFL history. To say that Anquan Boldin was more lopsided? Who won that deal? Apparently, this writer thinks that Boldin not only was worth three draft picks, but that this was one of the most lopsided deals ever. To put in in perspective, I don't think the Ravens could trade Boldin for a fourth round pick one year later.

Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards? Holmes will likely be a 15-game rent-a-player. Edwards has been decent but not great. Neither one of them came with a lot of contract years.

The fact that Washington actually did NOTHING with rake they recieved for Ricky Williams is astounding. How is that possible...seriously? Nothing? lololol

Ya, it's a stupid list but, like all lists of this type, it is meant to generate discussion and web hits.

To consider Moss to Vikings the most lopsided trade ever is absolutely ridiculous considering the 2 examples you referenced above.

that may be the worst article ive ever read. seriously. its almost so bad that it makes it worth your time to read. AWFUL

Oh c'mon - it's the Bleacher Report. What are you expecting, a pulitzer worthy submission?

It's a fun little walk through history from someone who seems to be a bit focused on the Patriots.

Ironically my main main thought was to actually defend Mangini on the Edwards to Jets.

Mangini had absolutely no leverage on that one - and everyone knew it. He was lucky to get anything for Edwards, who given his attitude with the Browns, was a addition by subtraction type player. Instead he probably took some pride in making a Patriots division rival stronger.

There's plenty of other things to criticize Mangini about, but that's not one of them. I think Mangini's trade of Sanchez to the Jets may look worse over time, though not top 20 bad as Mangini did the safe thing to draft a quality center.

I think Mangini was afraid to pull the trigger on a high draft pick again after being spooked by Belichick into using a Jets #6 pick on Vernon Gholston. Say what you want about Sanchez, but the Browns would look a lot better right now with him lining up behind center.

The Santonio Holmes trade a bigger lopsided trade than the Hershall Walker trade?!? The Hershall Walker trade helped to create a dynasty in Dallas. Santonio Holmes played 12 regular season games with the Jets and while a very good WR, was inconsistent (although very clutch at times).

Also, the Moss to The Vikes trade is clearly not the most lopsided trade in NFL history. I don't even know if it makes the top 20. It was a horrible trade for the Vikes, but it was only a third round pick.

Yeah, Edwards wasn't exactly a great player in Cleveland except for one year. In fact, he wasn't all that great last year. He was an above average WR this year (904 yards and 7 TDs), but it isn't like teams had to gameplan around him.

This might be going back a bit far but wasn't Plunkett to 49ers pretty lopsided? He was cut by niners within two years and I believe Mike Haynes, Pete Brock and a few other starters were selected with draft picks recieved.

Bledsoe deal doesn't belong there
Edwards deal doesn't belong there
Boldin deal was bad, but not top 10 bad
Moss to Vikings deal doesn't belong there, and the writer has it at #1

That's some pretty atrocious stuff, there.

Agreed on Bledsoe - same with Edwards.

But trading Moss to the Vikings got us a 3rd round pick for a receiver, like Edwards, who wasn't going to cooperate here and unlike Edwards appears to have lost his key skills

In return the Vikings got an imploded season and an ex-head coach and wound up cutting Moss in just a few weeks

That's pretty bad in my book

The Vikings season was imploding long before Moss arrived.

Just a horrible piece of work there. How can they leave off the 49ers trading up with us to get Jerry Rice? Plunkett being traded to San Franscisco who was released and then picked up by the Raiders. Mike Haynes was traded for a 1st and 2nd rounder. That's just off the top of my head. Give me an hour, I can think of more.

D.Branch? Are you kidding me? Edwards? Boldin? Fleecing has been going on a long time. Did this guy tide one on all night and wake up with a severe hangover and only have 5 minutes to hit enter on his keyboard?

edit. Rice trade is there. article still sucks

Uhhh.....what did the pats get for letting the niners draft jerry rice?

We swapped 1sts we gave up 16 for 28. Got their 2nd=56 swapped 3rds we got 84 and they get 75. plus their 8th round=224

So basically we got

28 Trevor Matich center Baylor
56 Ben Thomas DE Auburn
84 Audrey McMillian db Houston
224 Milford Hodge DT Washington ST

They got

16 Jerry Rice GOAT
75 Ricky Moore rb Alabama

I would like to see if the value chart for draft picks equals out. I don't think it does by glancing at it. They were coming off a SB championship too,

Which member of patsfans wrote that? We were on the positive end of about half of those.

minor detail but matich went to byu. i sat there and watched that and though i wasn't big on matich, i wasn't big on rice either. shows what i know.

The Ollie Matson trade is kind of funny because it implies that the Cardinals got the better end of the deal trading him for 9 players. Matson was an All-Pro in 1959, and most of the guys who were on the other end of the trade left the Cardinals and went to the AFL, if they ever played at all.

Also if you're asking yourself 'who' about Andre Rison then you're 10 years old or started watching football in this past decade. He wasn't John Elway, but let's not act like he was a no-name

Also they mention how important Santonio Holmes was to the Jets and talk about Pittsburgh's loss and New York's gain... but, if I remember correctly, Pittsburgh beat the Jets to go to the Super Bowl...

Yeah, i had to look that up to make sure I wasn't confused about the name. The question would be "who" was one of the most productive receivers of all time?

Number 15 overall ranked by the Pro HOF as of 2004.

Wow, people are taking this WAY more seriously than I expected. I just thought it was funny that the Belichick led Patriots were on the winning end of some of the best trades in the history of football; hence the term "light reading" in my initial post. BR is not the most in-depth journalistic exploration of the sport. It's essentially not much more than what we're all doing here, but with pictures...
