I don't believe we miss any games OR time for that matter. I think a deal gets done before March 4. Or maybe thats just HOPE! :)

I want to see Willie Beamon go up against Vince Papale with Shane Falco coming in for either. At least we know the cheerleaders will be up for it.

The Players dont want to lose any money at all and will be giving increased pressure to the NFLPA if they are in any danger of losing money, it does seem now like the NFLPA is holding this up. the owners want to make a deal and are willing to give up a bit more than they were a while ago and it seems now like the NFLPA is just trying to squeeze every red cent out of the owners at this point.

Its less than 50/50 at this point. I still think that revenue sharing amongst the owners is still a big issue. That needs to be fixed before the owners can start to work on a new CBA with the players IMO.

Part of me hopes that football is cancelled permanently...it would be kind of funny. All the owners would lose tons of value...players out of luck too. Serve them right.

Yah pissing away yet another year of Brady's limited career window would be SO funny!

Well, if the NFL misses games, hopefully the Pats will miss one of their games against the NYJ :D so we don't have to watch "which way did he go Ralph?" confused Brady looking around at receivers with 10 open yards in front of him. Then he shuns running and throws it behind and at Welker's feet....:D

Funny, Florio just put up an article how there will be a deal before March 4th.

I stand by my feelings that all of us know just as much as these media asshats.

I seriously doubt games will be missed. Before that happens the owners will declare an impasse and impose their "best offer" or the players will decertify and sue and the owners will impose their "best offer."

In either case the games would go on.

Yup. King is a drama queen, it meshes with his almost breathless self importance.

Owners explained to players this week that they begin to lose money (from the pie which makes money in a normal off season) long before their checks start getting issued in September. If the pir shrinks AND the have to adjust their % of it too boot...they'll be chasing DeMaurice with pitch forks by September. Especially the FA types whom the union has already screwed in favor of the overhyped uncapped season that netted most of them squat...

Florio had an interesting tidbit today. If a deal isn't done by March 4th Judge David Doty, who has had oversight on the CBA since the last strike and the adoption of FA rules, would be off the case. That is something the owners have wanted for years now as they feel he has exhibited a pro union bias. It therefore behooves the union to make it worth it concession wise to the owners to get a deal done before then, one that would remain in effect an amended continuance of the previous agreements subject to arbitration Judge Doty's interpretation should some union member want to file a claim...

Florio saw that as Union leverage, but to me it's just more leverage for ownership. They either get a good deal pre March 4 or hold out for a better deal and No Judge Doty post March 4.

Back in 2006 around this time, everyone was saying that a strike was inevitable and there was no way a deal would be done before the start of the season. This is the way things work. Nothing gets done until the 11th hour and then it gets done fast. Both sides are waiting for the other side to blink.

There are more than a few things to take into consideration:

1) The owners will be paid regardless if there are games. This will come back to byte them in the next TV contract. The networks are all owned by large Corps that are looking at their botton line(s) by business unit. Paying for a non existent product does not go oevr well in Corporate Suites.

2) If there is a lockout the NFLPA will decertify (they did it before) and the matter winds up in court.

3) If there is football lockoutm then I would look for Congress to get into the act. Neither the GOP nor the Dems will be schilling for the owners. Why does football have an exemptions from the anti-trust laws?

4) All of the networks will start showing Baseball come April. Baseball, Basketball and Hockey (to a lesser extent) will get the all of the media attention. Normally football fans start counting down the days to camp. That starts in June.

5) Can you imagine a red hot Baseball season (which the networks will push to make up for the lost dollars on football) and an exciting NBA finals.

6) The NFLPA has more level headed players than the owners give them credit for. Do we really think that many of the players are sympathetic to Antonio Cromartie. Cromartie is an
excpetion to the rule. Never under estimate the local PA reps in the locker room. I think alot of the older players have prepped the younger guys.

This can either be a train wreck or everyone will be smiles around the first week of March.

ok fire away...

Yes, I've had trouble sleeping lately, so a "red hot" baseball season help me out.
