Greatest Quarterback Debate Tabled For Now

Curren makes some more salient comments about why the debate is tabled.

Manning didn't play elite in either winning or losing a superbowl. Ben has nearly lost one, been instrumental in winning another, and now lost while turning in a below average performance. Brady has won 3 playing instrumentally including in a shootout and he's lost one where he led what should have been his fourth game winning drive and with a TD to boot with minutes remaining.

Brees and Rogers may be elite, but lets see them sustain that level of QB performance for a decade...or at least a couple of more seasons. Rivers may be elite, but lets see him win something ever. Prolific and elite and even clutch aren't all remotely one in the same, nor is winning unless perhaps your talking about Brady... And even he doesn't always embody all of those traits simultaneously all the time. Just more of them more often than any of his peers.

Ben is closer to Favre than Brady. Running the pull a rabbit out of your ass offense is a crap shoot at the end of the day. And it's folly to confuse exciting with elite or equate being lucky enough or even talented enough to do so in your prime or even occasionally in your dotage with truly being elite.

Curran: Roethlisberger can't establish greatness

there's no debate

joe montana is the greatest

Of course, he's not playing right now.

But thank for the contribution.

One player who will never be the best NFL QB at any time is Philip Rivers. He's very good. Top 5-7 probably. But he'll never be number one.

yeah i doubt he will, same as fouts was never number 1 :(

damn san diego lol

Rothlisberger does not belong in the same sentence as Brady, Manning and maybe Brees... his size and mobility add a dimension, but he does not seem to strike the same fear as the frontrunners do.

ben is just a guy who comes up clutch alot of the time, and like last night, sometimes he doesn't (also crapped out in the playoffs vs the jags one year and of course vs the pats)

what ben is is a 'football player' and a warrior, despite his off field criminal behavior.

i'd call him a great football player, but not a great quarterback

Based on this season as a whole, here's my adjusted QB Ratings:

1. Brady
2. Manning

3. Rodgers
4. Brees
5. Ben

6. Rivers
7. Flacco
8. Ryan
9. Vick
10. Freeman

He was in 2008 and should of won MVP.

Do you honetly think the Chargers would be better if Ben was at QB instead of Rivers?

Yes, I think Ben is better than Rivers. But they're very close.

i don't know why peyton gets all the love

aside from that sb win over the bears, in a playoffs where he threw more ints than tds, the guy is basically the marty scottenheimer of qbs

yeah but do you really think ben or eli would have done better in ... "san diego" lol

even fouts couldn't win anything there...either could brees

He just has a lot of ability to throw the ball.

Would you really not take him as your QB if Brady wasn't available and you could choose anyone?

I hate him and I'd still take him.

Also, last year he was passing with a bunch of his regulars on the bench.

I agree that he's not a leader and is a bit of a ****ey. But I can't overlook his ability to sling it.

I have to flip Rodgers into # 1 spot followed by Brady and then Manning.

My reasoning: Rodgers did not throw a screen pass in 1st quarter that hovered so long that you could leave room, make a meatball sub, and return to room before the &&! ball dropped into a linebacker's hands.

You are only as good as what you did yesterday in the NFL.

I dunno. No one could win anything in New Orleans till Brees did it. Same for other cities that have finally broken through after years of trying.

As a fan of a baseball team that went decades without a title and then inflicted the biggest playoff choke on the winningest baseball team in history on the way to a WS and then won another three years later, I don't buy that some teams/cities can't win.

no i'd take rivers over manning

manning throws too many ints lol

rivers has yet to throw more than 2 in any one game

I'm glad you are not running my team.

as great as brees has played in NO, technically no one could win anything there till they signed vilma lol

i think some can get over it, but some, after a while, just fail to like the cubs, padres, chargers, seahawks, falcons.......list goes on

see that's a tough call

brady's older than rodgers, and more bagned up of late

then again, rodgers has concussion problems......
