If true Simms needs to get some anger management counseling or he's going to be out of a cushy, very highly paid job. As I recall he got a little testy a few weeks ago when accused of showing favoritism towards the Pats and Brady, and supposedly after that reaction he had a confrontation with Steeler fans before the AFCCG in Pittsburgh when that subject was brought up to him at a hotel there.

ESPN analyst Desmond Howard said Saturday that former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms threatened him over comments he made about Simms' son.

Simms, who is part of the No. 1 NFL broadcasting team for CBS, acknowledged through network spokeswoman Jennifer Sabatelle that he had "a private conversation that became heated."

Howard said Simms took offense to an on-air comment about a Tennessee-LSU football game. Simms' son, Matt, is quarterback for the Volunteers; he was replaced as the starter after a 2-6 start and is now entering his senior season.

Howard, a former Heisman Trophy winner from Michigan who later played for the Redskins, sent four tweets Saturday. One said he was "DEAD serious about the Phil Simms thing."

"We all thought he was joking, but he kept going and said he wanted 2 take a swing at me," Howard wrote.

"I was at a public signing for a sponsor when Phil approached me to express anger over on-air analysis I made months ago about his son," Howard said later in a statement provided by ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz. "During the conversation, Phil made a reference to hitting me and security and sponsor representatives soon stepped in.

What a douche DH is for airing this private incident on twitter. What happened to settling things like men? Oh I forgot, DH is a wide receiver, so he's more Aretha Franklin than Bronco Nagurski.

Phile Simms hitting would have made me happy but someone tackling him would have made me happier.

I've wanted to hit Desmond Howard for 14 years now.

Well, sadly, you're more likely to get the job done than the Patriots special teams were.

Simms goes all ghetto on Desi or is it all trailer park? Humorous, as nobody got punched lights out.

You don't think Aretha could take on a double team?

ah yes desmond howard is the bad guy here, not the guy who though assault was a valid reaction to an offhand comment about his son's quarterbacking ability (he's real bad btw)

im glad you live in some bizarro barbarian world where thats 'settling things like men' though

Settling things like men is not always about physically fighting--it's about working out a dispute man-to-man without running to the media and turning a private dispute into a public one. All he has to say is Phil, look you're acting ridiculous, and walk away. End of story.

needed Troy Brown that day.

I still say that TB plays and somehow GB goes 3 and out on that drive, Pats have a very real shot in the final qtr. With 27-21, they can run the ball and not expose Drew to the GB pass rush.

I wish someone could have directed Phil Simms to the stage during the Super Bowl halftime. Put that anger to good use

Phil Simms should have kicked the living **** out of Desmond the hyman.

That reminds me - what ever happened to Hason Graham?

vinatieri was held on that play. now most times a kicker being held might not be worth mentioning except i've seen av chase down and tackle herschel walker from behind on a kickoff.
