Re: Suh Wins Rookie Of The Year award

This is not much of a shock to me. Suh was pretty much a lock for this award from the moment he was drafted... maybe even sooner. He had a great rookie season, but so did Bradford and McCourty. However, thanks to the media, this notion that Suh was a lock was "in the air" almost from day one.

Detroit Lions' Ndamukong Suh wins Pepsi Rookie of the Year award | MLive.com

Looks like McCourty wasn't even close....if the order is correct then Bradford was second...I haven't seen official word on voting numbers yet but McCourty was probably 3rd

IMO you could probably divide the award into 3 as all 3 of these guys were unbelievably good.

Suh getting the award should not be considered a slight to Bradford or DMc. He deserved it.

If you look at almost all of DETs key defensive stats, (wins, points allowed, red zone D, run D, pass D, INTs, sacks, etc) compared to 2009 there is a sizable improvement in every single area. Suh deserves a lion's (pun intended :p ) share of the credit.

Was Barry Sanders the last Detroit Lion to win the award?

Yep.

And you need to go back to 1978 the last time a Lion won defensive rookie of the year in Al "Bubba" Baker.

Re: Suh Wins Rookie Of The Year award

Overrated.

Makes the big plays that get him on the highlight reel.

Gets overpowered for the next 3 quarters.

I really have a good feeling that Suh is the beginning of a line of good defenders that will probably have the Lions in the top 10 on defense within the next decade....of course we had thought the Lions had turned the page many times before but this might be the start of something good for them and I would hope it is true for all of those long time suffering Lions fans and season ticket holders who deserve success.

I still think Ford needs to sell the team to really improve their chances of moving to greater heights

Suh is not overrated. The guy's a beast.I wish he was in our defensive line.:(

Ridiculous. He was fantastic his first 6 games and then was double and triple teamed every gamer after that. When someone has to gameplan for you that says something about how good you are. He was only a rookie and will improve.

However I like how McCourty improved game to game throughout the season. You could tell he studied quite a bit because he was just about a shut down corner by season end. He certainly was a great pick. One that I hated when it was made. As well as the Gronkowski pick. Be glad I'm not in charge.

Any team in the NFL would of been happy with either Suh or McCourty. I feel fortunate to have one of them playing for us.

Yeah and if he was a Patriot you would have had a hard-on all season knowing he was a player here

Typical dumb homer reaction, expected of course at Patsfans

Re: Suh Wins Rookie Of The Year award

As expected, a great class for rookies. In some recent years, McCourty or even Gronkowski could have won the award with the years they had. Hard to argue against Suh or Bradford.

Re: Suh Wins Rookie Of The Year award

I am not sure Mike Williams should have been in consideration...he was good but another Buccaneer that deserved a mention was a guy that we had a chance to get as an UDFA and was available for us...LeGarette Blount for a guy no one wanted to draft he was great for the Bucs

I stated before the draft last year that Suh is a once in every 3-4 years d-lineman and that the Pats should consider trading multiple choice picks to get him.

In hindsight, clearly I was wrong as the Pat's 2010 draft class is epic, but getting Suh to play with Brace and Wilfork in 2010 and with Ty Warren next year would put their D line as one of the best in football. My belief is that you can win with ok DBs and ok LBs but you can't win with a lousy d-line.

I may be in the minority here but I really wonder how Ty Warren will be coming back after a year off...He may not be the player he once was and we need to have 2 ADEQUATE FAs or draftees up front for depth and backup just in case Warren struggles.

The lions went 6-10.If they dont go 8-8 or 9-7 next season then i can see Calvin Johnson wanting out.

Think positive......A year off away from football would be nice for some guys. I'm just hoping he is not 400 pounds sitting on a couch somewhere.

Re: Suh Wins Rookie Of The Year award

BOOOOOO!!!

He deserved it...but still

BOOOOO!!!!!

Re: Suh Wins Rookie Of The Year award

thats not the offical award though the offical Oroy and Droy gets annouced tommorow and it's going to be Bradford and SUh bit McCourty will be close

I dont think you are the minority, but even if Warren struggles we still have Brace, Wright, Pryor, Deadrick, Love, and even Moore can fill in some. I don't think it's a high priority, but it is an issue.

Yes, the AP votes on the official award. The Pepsi award is a fan vote. I still think Suh will win the AP DROY award, but it will be closer for McCourty than this award.
