Re: Most depressing item in a long time:

Not to mention the dept. of homeland security was in on this?! What a joke.

The rest of it notwithstanding, there are a few headscratchers in terms of where agencies are housed. After all, the Secret Service is part of the Treasury Department. [Yeah, I know there's historical grounds for it, but still. . . .]

Re: Most depressing item in a long time:

How is Justin.tv not in the list?
Don't they also broadcast games?

Re: Most depressing item in a long time:

Not sure what the Satellite situation is like for you, but even the high price tag of over $300 per year is easily worth it for NFL Sunday Ticket. I typically watch two games of my choice every Sunday, plus I get to flip back and forth and see whatever I want, and then there is the HD (no grainy skipping from a download) perk, to go along with the DVR.

Re: Most depressing item in a long time:

I'm a college student in Iowa. I'll get Sunday Ticket in a few years, but illegal online viewing is about the only way to see a lot of Pats games here.

Re: Most depressing item in a long time:

I can't say much without getting this thread moved to the political forum, so I'll just say that I'm glad that ATDE has already implemented a workaround, and I'll leave it at that.

Sad day indeed, in the name of money! Gotta love it, when having billions is not enough money for billionaires....

$300 plus monthly = 400+
Its about $1200.00 to 1400.00 for a year of programing plus $300.00 is $1500.00-$1700.00 a year! Its a ******* rip off!

Its funny cause if we didn't have a monopoly on satellite and cable companies the price would be lower, also the monopoly on the NFL package is too blame for the high price. But hey! its the good old USA! soon to be the good Old Mexico!

"Illegal online viewing"...what has the world come to? :bricks:

Are there sports bars in your area where you can watch games on Sundays? That's what I did before I had DirecTV.

Re: Most depressing item in a long time:

I'm not sure I understand why CBS and the radio affiliates do not stream the games.

I am currently in Athens. Last week I was in Dubai.
During the Chicago game, I was in Holland.
After extensive searching, I was unable to find either public places or local television broadcasting the games, partly due to time zones.

By streaming the games, viewers without any other viewing options would watch the same commercials as broadcast television.

Reason they don't (legally) stream those games for free via commercial sites is because the NFL sells subscriptions to those audio and video streams outside the U.S.; nobody would buy the subscription if it was available for free.

The only sports bar within 20 minutes only shows what's available locally. Haven't tried any further away ones because it's so convenient to watch online:p

Re: Most depressing item in a long time:

God Help all us UK fans who struggle with the Primetime games and at most 2-3 other games.

Are you from the New England area with family back home?

If so, try Slingplayer.

It's better quality than channelsurfing etc.

I assume you're talking about DirecTV and the Sunday Ticket.

I don't understand why you bring up the monthly fee without ST; are you not going to order any cable service at all if not for ST? If it was available on another cable provider you'd still be paying that same $1200 to $1400 - just to a different company.

As for who gets the ST package, it comes up for bid every few years - just like the right to MNF, SNF, the NFC games and the AFC games do. Nobody complains about MNF only being available on ESPN (the company that won the bid for those broadcasting rights), but for some reason lots of people complain that the Sunday Ticket is exclusive to DirecTV.

Regarding cable companies having monopolies (or oligopolies), that may be true but the correlation between that and your cable bill is really a discussion for either the Political Forum or The Pub.
