BB and Mankins have a "nice talk"

I don't love Mankins' reply.

"Nice talk. We have a lot of nice talks."

Sounds a little like "same old stuff, different day."

Perhaps that's too negative. But my take is that Mankins is saying that the problem isn't talking to Bill and it runs deeper than that.

Hopefully that at least calmed the waters.

A "nice talk". Wow that tells us nothing.
Hopefully it was nice enough for him to consider taking a sane contract offer.
I think his agent has gotten into his head and Mankins won't sign for less than what he believes he's worth, which is a LOT of money.
We're not going to give Mankins, Wilfork money if that's what he's looking for.

He probably just said "Tag. You're It".

All this Mankins talk is kind of moot right now, he will get tagged then we'll wait for the new CBA and go from there.

How do you know it tells us nothing, were you there in the huddle with them during the conversation? Maybe BB was telling Mankins the team wants to keep him and sign him long term but they need to wait for the CBA to get resolved before they can make a big move like that.

I think he just meant more details, as in Mankins telling the media and not so much what went on in the actual talk itself.

Belichick: "Logan we won't pay you the money you want and we won't franchise you as long as you promise not to sign with an AFC team, namely the Jets,Pittsburgh,Indy and San Diego.

Mankins: "O.K. Boss, but if those teams offer me substantially more than the rest of the NFC teams offer then its going to be hell to try and keep me from going to one of those teams,I am the best guard in the NFL and nothing personal but its a business.

Thats my version of a 'nice talk' between those two

Mankins won't leave BB. He's gonna be a Pat 4 lifeee

Franchise Tag Mankins - which type?

If I am not mistaken, aren't there two different types: Exclusive and Non-Exclusive. Which one suits us best...? Exclusive might piss LM off, but it would reduce the liklihood of some unexpected offer coming in. This all assumes the CBA is signed, of course.

Re: Franchise Tag Mankins - which type?

They will give hiim the Non-Exclusive franchise tag to allow him to talk to
other teams.

The other team will then be able to work on a contract, prior to working
out a trade with the Patriots.

Nobody is going to pony up 2 first round picks for Mankins.

The liklihood of an unexpected offer? You only use the exclusive franchise tag and pay the premium tender of top 5 current year average salary when you don't want to risk someone swooping in and offering you two first round picks for that player. Manning and Freeney were exclusive tagged before, and Peyton will be again if his deal can't be agreed to before March 4. Mankins won't be, because he's an OG and it's beyond unlikely someone will want him enough to pay that price while we will either reach some agreement to shop him in trade for closer to half that or he will play here for $10M or so dollars.

Mankins has always contended he has no issues with BB. I guess like the little Felger's of the world he's convinced himself that Kraft really makes all the decisions... That way it's easier to say you get along great with the HOF HC, it's the FO that rubs you the wrong way...LOL That spin works in a lot of places but this isn't one of them. This is the one voice outfit, and irregardless of of whom you hear what from it all emanates from Bill.

And, I can't wait to see how many different interpretations emerge here both of the encounter and of Logan's comment about a "nice talk."

"He's saying it was a good conversation."
"No, he's saying it was 'same old, same old.'"
"No, he's saying that it means things are improving."
"No, he's saying that BB was lecturing him, talking down to him."
"No, he's saying that BB and he are always talking past each other."
...

You know what?
I am done with Mankins. I don't care.
If he doesn't want to be here, let him leave.
There is the door,
next.

Use the money for some wacked out edge rusher, or Larry Fitzgerald.
Both.

This is looking like Adalius Thomas, revisited.
For a big tough guy, he sure spends a lot of
GD time whining to the press.
Sign, don't sign. I don't care.
Just shut up.

Ive said it before and i'll say it again we shouldn't.
Belichick the Pats should not have to convince Logan to reup with the Patriots.
He's protecting maybe the greatest QB who will ever play the game.
He's in a position to make millions upon millions of dollars rather it's god given talent, hard work, the Patriots coaching him up, or a combination of 2 or the 3.
I don't want a player who is lukewarm about being on the team cause I have to believe that he won't give his all his all he might give 99 and a half percent but if his heart and head isn't on the Patriots that's part of the difference of losing those important games when you have to dig in and give it all that's a Patriot not this premadonna crap were getting from this man.
I hope BB agrees sign and trade to the highest bidder.
That's my contract proposal don't let the door hit you on the way out Logan.

This is strictly a business decision I think they both respect each other greatly. sometimes we forget that the top players have an obligation to the other players to get the most money, there is serious pressure on them for that from the union. I think these are themselves, the union, and their teamates in the equation not just the team and them.

I don't think Mankins' beef is with BB at all. Rather, his beef is with Kraft.
