Holy **** is he fast off the line...was straight up running by takes and too damn strong for a te...sign me up!

One of the most important things about the clip is the C on his shirt. BB likes to draft captains of teams because it shows leadership. I will take him over a player like TBC.

Does Houston look awfully small to you? I'd like to see a REAL height & weight on him before I can project him doing the same things in the Pats defense that he did in college.

Let's say he weighs-in at 6024/255 and runs a 4.75 and is just adequate in run defense. We're basically spending the #28 on a Ninkovich clone simply because he "got after the passer" well in college.

Meh.

He's a college player. He played in the SEC. Is there any particular reason you don't think his skills will translate?

Yes, he is horrible against the run. Easily handled by one on one bliocking and slow to disengage.

Has a substance abuse RED FLAG that will have to be cleared up..

As in PED's or MJ/Narcotics. If its another A. Hernandez type, who the hell cares? Gasp, a college athlete that drinks and smokes weed?! Why I'd never condone that. Lighten up people. The fact that Hernandez fell to the fourth is hysterical. I bet there are thirty one gm's out there lighting up a bone as we speak wondering why they passed on him four times...

As in, it's a substance abuse suspension. They didn't release what it was for specifically.

Instead of going all ballistic and acting like someone said the guy was a POS and shouldn't see the light of day, zip it and read what was actually said. All that was said is that he has a substance abuse red flag that needs to be cleared up. Sheesh.. Nothing like over-reacting and being stupid about it.

Well maybe this hurts his stock and we can steal him in the second round.

Again.. Who knows what it will do to his stock. It will be a question that he'll have to answer to teams either now or at the combine or at his Pro-Day.

It's just a question that will have to be answered.

He looks amazing! I have decided for my dream draft, I want
17 - either JJ Watt or Ryan Kerrigan
28 - Justin Houston
33 - Trade for a first next year and 3rd rounder
60 - OT - best available.

Damn! Thats too bad to hear. I only saw him play once this year vs UCF in the bowl game he did nothing. He also doesn't look as big as Georgia lists him at. However, his tape on youtube looks good when it comes to getting after the QB. Probably a better fit for a Pitt, Balt, NYJ 3-4 Defense.

Ochmed Jones,

You seem like you are one of the most informed posters on here. Are there any 3-4 OLBs in this draft that fit BB's scheme? I can't find one guy that I like except Robert Quinn but hes going top 10 and even he has the question mark of pass coverage. Do you think BB passes on this position and just sticks with another year of Ninkovich and Cunningham hoping they develop in their 2nd yrs starting in this defense with TBC and Moore as the backup 3rd down specialists?

Personally, I think Aldon Smith is the best, but having Tom Condon as his agent leads to huge questions, like if the Pats are willing to work with Condon again.

I think Robert Quinn is better. However, atleast Smith has the measureables for the position which is a great start considering how many guys don't even have that. I haven't seen tape of him but his stock is gaining steam and hes going top 15 now in most mocks. I doubt BB takes a redshirt sophomore first round. I can't say what he does well or bad because I never focused on him while watching Mizz. I just hope we get someone at OLB.

He does'nt fit the prototype for OLB here. Two things stand out.
1) He moves upfield and reads the play when he's engaged. He's not just a speed rusher. He's seeing the action.
2) the guy has a big base. Real thick in the legs and plays with a strong base.
Nice player.

And herein lies the problem with the contemporary Patriots defense. The 3-4 teams you list (and I'll include GB) are unarguably better than the Pats D and have been for some time.

Now I love Houston but have no idea if he'll be a good/great pro. But it just seems a bit parochial of BB to continue to run a 3-4 defense that it is hard to find players to run well when your rivals are running a better version and having an easier time finding superior players to do it.

Or in other words: a scheme that does not have room for a Clay Matthews is a scheme that needs to evolve.
