Wes Welker says he doesn’t deserve a new contract

I'd rather have him say he'd love an extension with the team.

I'll settle for not flaming out in Randy Moss fashion.

But if you read the article, it's clear that his point is he felt he didn't live up to his own lofty demands on himself.

How about both?

And, just like Brady and Wilfork, he’s hoping to remain in a Patriots [team stats] uniform the rest of his career.

“This is where I really kind of showed myself in this league,” Welker said. “I love New England. I love being a Patriot. I think anyone who has ever played here wants to stay here.”

Great minds think alike. I was about to post that myself. :)

Like I said in the other thread. absolutely no way this guy gets traded if it were up to me. Keep him for 2011, do everything you can to lock him up and if it comes down to it franchise him.

I'm guessing what he really means is that he doesn't think he deserves a contract nearly as big as he expects to deserve a year from now. ;)

God I love that guy. Total man crush.

Wes Welker is amazing.

I think his agent should sit him for the first series of his next game.:D

In all honesty does this not show that BB was right. I dont care how good you are or how big the game is keep your mouth shut your a player and thus assumption is you say dumb things and Welker has proven this theory right.

Of course he deserves an extension. He wasn't his normal incredible self, but everyone knows coming back as quick as he did from a serious knee injury he wasn't going to be the same guy this year(some, including myself thought he was done). Brady wasn't the same either and he didn't have to put nearly as much stress on his knee and had longer to recover. I say sign him now while they can still get a discount because he could be quite expensive after he has an incredible year next year, and he will

I really love Welker's attitude. If there's one guy who won't get fat and lazy after signing a big deal it's Wes Welker. That's why I think now is probably the perfect time to give him a 4-5 year extension deal for about 5-6M per year with a nice 7M or so signing bonus. He is at least as valuable as Branch to our offense if not a lot more.

That is so awesome and refreshing to read.

LOL. Bill using his Jedi mindtrick on Welker. This is sounds insane.
