Romo and Brady took over for Bledsoe and started thier QB careers on a positive note.
Romo and Brady beat the Colts shortly after becoming starting Quarterback for thier team.
Romo and Brady both are dating Famous Hollywood Models/Actresses at this time.
Sounds a bit eerie like a deja vu thing...HMMM Are the Cowboys and Romo heading to the SB like Brady shortly after taking over QB position? - Its possible....Remember Parcells was Coach in SB in '1986' - 10 years later,Parcells was coach in SB in '1996' - Now 10 years later its 2006- Destiny or just coincidence?

Coincidence.

Besides, Tommy wasn't dating anyone famous when we won in 2002. He was dating a local gal who moved to California to take a PR/marketing job before the season started - he even took her to Disney for the post SB parade.

Tommy didn't start dating bimbo starlets until the 2002 pre-season - and we all know how that season ended. Then before 2003-2004 he hooked up with a mature woman who is an actual actress.

He also didn't have any tempermental 6' Pro Bowl WR's to deal with - just a couple of unknown smurfs. And a bowling ball TE from E. Boston.

The only similarity is Bledsoe losing his job, but that didn't help Buffalo all that much. :D

Getting a little sick of Tony Romo.. He is good, or is he just better because Bledsoe is so bad anymore..

Romo is 20 of 26 for 5 td's so far today against Barber and the Bucs....FIVE FREAKING TD's...

bucs dont have..simeon rice..quarles...kelly..

they arent as good a D or near as good as they used to

plus he better be putting up good #s with TO, Glenn and Witten but great perforamnce none the less

Drew Bledsoe could not do that, even with all that talent.. Poor Drew, he should have worked a little harder on his mobility and game, and maybee this could be him.. He lost out to a guy that wants to win a little more..

Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys sure looked good today (and for the last few weeks) but count me in with the wait-and-see crowd.

We've all seen new QBs come out of nowhere and look like HOF locks, only to come down to Earth the next season or two (Roethlisberger, Pennington, Leftwich, etc.). Once defenses catch up with what they're doing, the QB no longer looks like the HOF stud people thought they were.

Some people in the preseason picked us and the 'Boys to be in the SBXLI because of the potential Bledsoe/Brady storyline, now imagine a Romo/Brady plotline... it'd be exciting to say the least.

The obvious similarities between the way Brady and Romo emerged from behind Drew Bledsoe to lead their teams out of what looked like dying seasons make it an easy comparison for media pundits - who always need something new to talk about - to make.

Having watched the Cowboys last two games the comparison is pretty irresistible. Physically they're not so alike, I guess, but they move in a similar way within the pocket (but Romo is faster) and he's clearly gaining the confidence of his team week-by-week, just as Brady did. He looks like a charismatic guy too.

I'm reluctant to draw too many conclusions after watching just two games, but my guess is that right now the Cowboys are the best team in the NFC and if Romo can lead them successfully through a couple of key games - @ the Giants next week - he will at the very least have a chance to go to the NFC Championship game in Chicago to play for a place in the SB.

What he has that Brady did not is a whole load of weapons: two tier one receivers - TO looked like he was still with the program last night and Terry Glenn played a great game - a good third man in Crayton, a tight end he likes and a couple of decent running backs, at least one of whom - Barber - looks a serious receiving threat.

A Brady/Romo SB would be a great ending to this season, but I have to say I think the Cowboys look a much better bet to get there than we do at this point.

OH Please, give me a break with the Brady/Romo comparisons. Why is it that when every new flavor of the month QB shows up, they all get compared to Brady?
The only thing these two have in common is that they both beat out Bledsoe.
When Romo wins three Super Bowls, loses his top WRs and still puts up big numbers with second tier WRs, then this discussion will be valid. Romo has yet to be battle tested. Brady is and is still on top of his game. That's why he's considered one of the best if not the best in the league. The GREAT ONES find a way to thrive in adversity. What adversity has Romo faced? Brady has a brand new WR corp.
Some of these WRs are considered scrubs by some in the league. Yet, we are still one of the top offenses in the league. The stats don't lie. With all of their flaws, our offense ranks in the top 10. How is that possible with our mediocre WR corp? http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/OFF-TOTAL/2006/regular?sort_col_1=4

Who are Romo's WRs and RBs again?
For crying out loud he's got TO and Terry Glenn on that team. He better look good. :p
That being said. The kid has done a good job so far. I'm just not ready to start comparing him to one of the GREAT ONES.

I'm not sure if you call this adversity, but Mr. Romo was an undrafted free agent out of a NCAA Division 1-aa team.

.

Good point Mikey, but I was not referring to that type of adversity.
Our QB has lost his top Wrs, and has still found a way to produce.
It takes a special QB to do that, IMO. That's all I'm saying. I'm not knocking
Romo by any means. The kid has done good so far. But he's got A LOT OF HELP.

Most of the comparisons I have seen have been about the way these two guys emerged in the NFL, and a similar style in the pocket.

There's no comparison, clearly, in production. Romo's only started half a dozen games, has no rings, no nothing yet. There's no comparison in the talent they had around them - Romo's got two of the league's 10 (15?) best wide receivers and a tier one supportin cast of TEs and RBs.

How he'll cope the next time TO blows up, or Glenn gets injured or loses his starting left tackle and Jason Witten to free agency, who the hell knows? We can make those comparisons then.

But right now, half a dozen games into his NFL career, there are similarities between the way he is playing and becoming a leader on the Cowboys and the way Brady did in '01. That's all.

Good Post. I absolutely agree with you.
Like I said, the kids done good so far. But I think that we have to give his
supporting cast some of the credit too. I don't think Brady had a supporting cast like that back in '01 either. Did he?

Brady started Superbowl XXXVI with Troy Brown and David Patten at WR, Jermaine Wiggins at TE and Antowain Smith and Marc Edwards in the backfield.

Interestingly, I see that London Fletcher started for the Rams that day at ILB. I gather he's a FA at the end of this season. Might he occupy the Junior Seau role for the Pats in 07?

Thanks Iron. I did remember that Brown, Patten and Smith were in the offense back in '01, but I didn't remember the other guys.

And I would love to see London Fletcher in a Patriot uni. :D

In all fairness to Bledsoe, his line had given up on him and wasn't giving him anywhere near the protection they are giving Romo, that said Romo is playing way better than Bledsoe

I don't know if the line had given up on him so much as he can't move at all. He doesn't even need to run like Vick, all he needed to do was work on his pocket presence and make those little sidesteps to avoid the rush but he never could do that.

I think the line looks better with Romo because Romo's quickness make them look better. He simply is a better fit for the team.

I think Romo is playing very well and deserves some praise, but the stupid guy who's filling in for Mike & Mike just said that Romo is Brady reincarnated and the Cowboys WILL win the Superbowl. I threw something at the TV. I just HATE the media.

Tony also had the benefit of riding the bench for 3+ years while this team was being constructed and it's offense was being developed. Tommy came in after making the jump from 4th to 2nd on the depth chart in a year.

But there is one other similarity - they both had to beat out not only Bledsoe but Henson. I know Michigan Dave still defends his talent, but you gotta wonder just how bad he is that since the 'Boys cut him he hasn't managed to land with some other QB starved team.

What will get Romo in trouble eventually is the gunslinger mentality, although playing in the NFC you will get away with slinging it as the Pat's can attest. He's stifling the dark side of that natural tendancy for the most part early on, as did Big Ben in his first season, but when he feels more secure in the position and as DC's figure him out, that will re-emerge. Favre is his idol. When he loses a couple of weapons to injury or TO has an issues flare up, then he'll be tested.

Bledsoe's line gave up on him because he sucks the life out of his teams. Trying to protect a guy who can't or won't make any adjustments in his game to help himself, and gradually coming to KNOW he will make that horrendous mind numbing mistake over and over and over no matter how hard you're trying not to make any, is just debilitating for a team, coach and fan base.

Romo could end up a one year wonder or he could be their Aikman replacement. Won't know until we see how he deals with the position over a couple of seasons. Delhomme was the next Brady in 2003 and the Panthers have been flailing ever since. Ben was it in 2004 until he choked in the playoffs - but at least the Steelers managed one for the thumb in spite of him the following year. Bulger put up some numbers for a while, but he couldn't pull the Rams butts out of post SB mediocrity. We're lucky we have the gold standard by which the rest of them are measured.

That said, I'd still rather have Romo than the other Manning right now if I were an NFC HC.
