Troy Brown:Brady has "Drew Bledsoe factor"

I'm one of the numerous people who thinks that Brady and Manning have leapfrogged each other a few times as to who is the better quarterback at the time. (Brady is ahead right now, the terrible playoff game notwithstanding.) One of the times I thought Manning leapfrogged Brady was when he learned to throw on the run.

I will admit though that Brady has had plenty of chances to leave the pocket and get extra time to throw and he doesn't. Maybe he's worried about getting hurt. Maybe it screws up his mindset if he's constantly leaving the pocket and maybe it's better that he's focused 100% on passing. I don't know if that makes sense but that could be it.

So Rapistburger is the flavor of the month.

What did he throw...2 picks and no TD's? Good thing he can run, cause his accuracy sucks.

The real question is: If the Pats didn't lay an egg, could they have beaten Green Bay...probably not. It's not their time...yet. Too green on D.

At least that's what I tell myself to make me feel better.

The bye sucks. They always come out flat.

That injury in 08 was really a shame because in 06 and 07 he was starting to run with the ball more and picking up 1st downs. Anyone else remember this? It kind of stopped in 09 and 10.

Well, it's hard to forget the Urlacher juke. ;)

The idea that Brady has no mobility in the pocket is absurd. Did anyone of these idiots saying this "stuff" watch any game other than the last one? His pocket movement had Jaws, Gruden et al raving about his ability to move in the pocket as being unparalleled. JC, he had a bad game but this crap is gone past being ridiculous.

I agree that it's totally unfair to compare Brady to Bledsoe because of that game alone. Jaws, Gruden and others rightfully rave about Brady's unique ability to feel pressure, sidestep it and find an open man, or get rid of the ball before a sack--something he didn't do a lot of in the Jets game for whatever reason.

I didn't hear Troy Brown's comments, and if he's saying that Brady is now Bledsoe-like based on holding the ball too long and being statue-like in the pocket, again that's unfair based on the last game alone. But let's be realistic here: Brady is now the most immobile QB in the league--he is getting older, the number of hits he's taking are mounting, and the foot/knee injuries have taken their toll.

Might be a good idea to look at these things realistically and see if any adjustments to our offense are in order based on changing circumstances , especially since our offense revolves around Brady. People who are so quick to get defensive when it comes to anything Brady might do well to let that go every now and then. ;)

... he has a point.
Can't remember too many plays lately where Brady rolled out of the pocket to buy time.
But so long as the O-line holds ... who cares.

Did you watch the Jets-Patriots regular season game where he moved around the pocket and eluded oncoming pass rushers effortlessly. They had him dead to rights. He looked like a matador out there.

Brady was not himself because he was holding the ball while the Jets dropped everyone back, and meanwhile the three guys rushing (mainly Ellis) could not be contained. Brady held the ball for 6 or 7 seconds at some points.

Anyone watching Brady post-injury can see that he's not the same guy as far as moving about goes. He's much less willing to run the ball. How is this controversial?

Manning had his worst season in his last eight years.

Bledoe's problem was that he held the ball too long looking for a big play. Brady did this at times in the Jets game when he should have just dumped it off.

Brady does need to run more, I don't care if he is slow as crap, the man is a professional athlete and if the defense is going to give you those runs up the middle you have to take them to keep them honest. Even if it is only for a few yards.

Practice your sliding Brady.

IIRC, Brady used to be pretty good throwing the ball away without intentional grounding when young.

Brady stopped being Bledsoe the second Moss left town

He, along with the rest of the team, had a bad game. There's no need to crucify him over one game.

You know.....when u watch film replay of this yrs playoff game against jests and the 2007 SB (and wouldn't recommend watching both on same night...may trigger suicidal tendencies)....you become so incensed that BB/BOB DID NOTHING TO ADJUST. Swing passes to the RB, dumpoffs set up in the flat WERE never tried again last Sun...after Brady threw the pick (or at least the formation was not rolled out again that I could see....) That is where we need MORE creativity in our coaching....and better OL personnel to better establish the run game.....and yes we will deg need one more RB a least as taylor and morris will be gone....to backup Bjge and woody.

All this underscores is that working at or watching Comcast sports net programming turns your football brain to mush.

The only thing Ben has that Brady lacks is...a top 5 defense. As for the Drew Bledsoe factor...if he remotely had that he'd have thrown 4 more picks against the JETS if we even made the playoffs after the other twenty something more he'd have thrown in the regular season...

Tate TD against Vikings!

For a QB who isn't mobile, Brady made that with his feet!

The facts are....Brady WON'T run. Gush all the man-love you want about his mobility in the pocker...Brady WON'T run.
A team that can create pressure with only their front four can drop 7 into coverage on passing downs and neutralize Brady...like the Jets and Giants did. Both teams had early success collapsing the pocket and sacking Brady and you could see how the early game pressure affected his mindset later in these games. His internal clock sped up. These teams need not worry that Brady will extend the play, because he won't.

Kind of the definition of a true pocket passer. He has run for 607 yards in his career and 1.8 yards per attempt. He ran for 28 yards in 2004, prior to his knee injury and 30 yards this year. He does not run the ball because he is ridiculously slow and only does so when the defense drops so far back he can gain more than a yard. It may look like there is a huge space, but it will close quickly if he heads toward it, at which time he slides for a 1 yard gain or gets planted.

Until Brady can be genetically modified to significantly increase his 40 time to become a league leading passer and running threat, he will throw the ball and not run it. It's not 'gushing' - it's the answer to the question of whether you would rather have a less accurate scrambling QB or a Brady/Manning/Brees/Rivers (all have about the same running yards per season), the guys objectively called the best QBs in the game, playing the position who all do not run the ball. Frankly, I don't want Vick to replace Brady because defenses strangely play a running QB differently yet effectively. They do not give the same look to a guy who can run, so the spaces you see on the field with Brady are not there.

ah just utter nonsense... it was not Brady's feet that got him in trouble, it was the descison making that was at fault 2 weeks ago... The pass was awful, the worst pass he threw i want to say since 04 against miami... players were there he just had his confidence shakin...

1) Brady's always been a mobile QB, just not a running one. "They don't ask me to run much...thank God."

2) The last time Brady was healthy enough to run (such as it is) was 2007. Another year, another injury that he trucked on through.

3) He's as good at avoiding sacks as he ever was, they just aren't highlight material, like Rapistburger's.

4) He just created one of the all-time great QB seasons and was a unanimous All-Pro.

5) I guess we're ignoring #4 because in the last game he looked only above average while his o-line was getting prison raped by a 3-4 man rush.

6) We absolutely don't deserve this dude. F***.
