It Is What It Is | Marvin Lewis: Belichick too smart to sign Ochocinco

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was asked by the Boston Herald on Monday if he thought the Patriots would make a play for free agent receiver Chad Ochocinco.

“Belichick’s smarter than that,” said Lewis, who coached Ochocinco in Cincinnati for the last eight seasons.

Ochocinco recently posted a Tweet about the possibility of coming to New England, calling a potential pairing of he and Belichick “epic.” Belichick has a long history with the controversial wideout, having worked him out as a draft prospect in 2001. Belichick talked about their relationship earlier in the 2010 season.

“I like Chad — I like him as a player. I like him as a person,” Belichick said. “I like his enthusiasm and the fun he has with football, and I like how he competes on the football field. I have a lot of respect for that.

“[We’re] an odd couple, but in the end I think we have a lot of things in common.”

Good read. Belichick is also smart enough if he acquires him to pull the plug when things aren't working.

Marvin Lewis is a clown. What does he know.

i sure hope bb doesnt get ocho cinco

People seem to forget he was the mastermind behind the Ravens in the early 2000s. He has no power in Cincinnati, he has been made into a puppet.

Agreed, and he was pretty sucessful for the beginning of his stint in Cincinnati. But after 4 or 5 years, the wheels kind of fell off and he's been dead coach walking.

He's a great defensive mind but not a head coach. You can tell in games with his use of challenges and timeouts.

Belichick would be close to ******ed to acquire Chad

Chad brings nothing to the table anymore...and I don't care who is throwing the ball to him.

Belichick is not that dumb as he says..that's why he won't bring Chad up here unless he wants a circus act to lighten the other guys up after a loss.

Is everyone who likes that goofball as a WR too stupid to realize that the "I am special,it's all about me in the spotlight" type of guys never should come here and won't work.

Give me a blue collar David Givens anyday of the week and then some over divas like Moss,Johnson and Owens.

Does he have personnel decisions? My sense is they draft a bunch of uncoachable, unbearable jerks and tell him to run his system with them. I used to think he was a bad coach, until this year when I saw a lot of their games and realized he is actually a good coach with a lot of horrible, undisciplined players. Sorry, but you just can't change the culture when you are frequently drafting and signing divas.

I would welcome Ocho Cinco if the price is right. This team needs some receivers on the outside.

If we didn't blow it last year with Boldin we would not be having this conversation.

The ignorance of not even trying to get him or bring him in still pisses me off.

I was hoping for Boldin as well, but looking back, can't really say Boldin was a huge upgrade over Twiggy.

Boldin - 4 years, $28M, $10M guaranteed. Traded 3rd and 4th for him.
64 catches, 837 yards, 13.1 avg, 7 TDs

Branch - 2 years, $7.7M with another $4M in incentives. Traded 4th for him.
61 catches, 818 yards, 13.4 avg, 6 TDs

As for Ochocinco, if the guy's attitude is too poor even for the Bungles, I'll pass. I know BB always talks him up but he also talked up Moss before getting rid of him.

Now Ochocinco responds to Lewis.

In response to hearing the story, Ochocinco responded via Twitter by re-tweeting Rapoport's message, adding "##AssWhoopnTime."

Rapoport has since tweeted, "Since the first @ochocinco Tweet, I think fans of at least 15 teams have told him they'd want him on their team. #MadChad getting madlove."

This one could be just getting started.

Re: Ochoc Tweets.

Is chad officially a free agent or is it just likely he will be cut?

Wow!!!! I can't believe this even needed to be posted. To recap, the Patriots had one of the all-time greatest offenses in NFL history, while the Ravens struggled once again. If you want to talk about the playoff loss, let's look at what Boldin did on the other side, which was drop an easy TD pass in the final minutes. Not that Boldin would have done anything against Revis anyway.

I can't believe PFinPA would even say something like this seriously. Does the feeling of losing really make you this incredibly biased to believe they made the wrong decision with Boldin? The Pats went 14-2 and scored over 500 points on offense.

The reports out of New England: Belichick was driving up the price and never really wanted AB, who has been known as a team cancer without the elite talent of some other divas.

Chad has as much chance of playing for this team as I do. He would have to cancel his Twitter account, stop talking to the media and learn how to be a team player; none of which will ever happen.

Apparently he and T.O. want to play for the Jets now. Maybe that way, they can keep their Twitter accounts, and add Rex Ryan to their VH1 show.

Ochocino, T.O. want to play for the Jets | ProFootballTalk

“They will make it to this point every year,” Chad Ochocinco said regarding the team’s second straight berth in the AFC title game. “I’d do anything to play for someone like Rex Ryan or anyone who has that type of mentality.”

Said Terrell Owens: “I’m jumping on that bandwagon, too, because I was thinking the exact same thing, Chad.”

If the guy DIDNT have a TV show... I would say there is a hidden chance. NO way does BB go after a guy who has a national show that will be pressured to break the BB code and secrets on national TV... No way this happens.

I see Randy coming back more than 85
