Anyone know what the Jets draft pick situation is? I believe the 2nd is gone for Cromartie.

Yeah it is.The Colts win sealed it.Jets aren't looking that good for next year imo.

I agree with the first post. After winning last offseason with all big names, talking so much crap, hard knocks, beating the Colts and Pats and falling short again. Very hard to emotionally go through the same thing.

I dont know about that, the jet will be a thorn in the pats side until belichick and brady retire... The pats were scared of the jets last week, players coaches and it showed... Sanchez looks a gamer, as much i hate to say that but he looks the part.. The jets have beaten the pats 3 out of the last five.. granted we will be better in some areas, but right now both teams are even... but its a long offseason so we shall see...

I felt bad for Taylor at the podeum last night.

If we do have a role for him, in whatever capacity, I would love to take him on board...

What about LdT? Is he due to come back?

As much as I dont want it to be this way, I do not expect the Jets to drop of significantly from this year. I think the Pats will be in a battle for years to come. The Jets are now a team that narrowly missed the SB 2 years in a row. Many players will put them on the doorstep to winning a ring. As much as we dislike him, Ryan is extremely popular as a player coach.

I think the NYJ could very well become a place were some Vets go for their last shot at a ring. I think players on the FA list will sign for less to stay there. Not all the players obviously but more players then we would like to see.

DO I think BB and Kraft do a better job managing a team? Definitely. But, Ryan and Tannenbaum(?) have made an inviting place for seasoned players.

I find it hilarious that the lowest teams on the payroll list are

NFL Green Bay Packers Team Salaries: $ 94,018,300
NFL Indianapolis Colts Team Salaries: $ 93,373,915
NFL New England Patriots Team Salaries: $ 92,734,120
NFL Baltimore Ravens Team Salaries: $ 90,713,965
NFL Kansas City Chiefs Team Salaries: $ 83,623,776

All these teams are playoff teams, just shows how important good management is.

Wow that is a very impressive list

The Jets have 32 players under contract due a total of almost $99M in salary next season.
The Patriots have 46 under contract for $65.5M.

I don't know exactly how this translates to cap hit, but the Jets are relatively screwed when it comes to resigning guys.

Simple.
Goodell will see to it that the new CBA has a loophole for his team.

Think of it this way :

By the time the Patriots have made their 6th (that's SIXTH) pick, the Jest will almost be ready to make their 2nd.

1a
1b
Jets 1
2a
2b
3a
3b
Jets 3

I know we'll trade a few of those but our draft day trades usually put us in a stronger draft position overall.

As for the thread, it does look good but teams determined to win now seem to find a way to self sustain that process. I want to see what they come back with before proclaiming them dead although some like 'Cro and Edwards would seem to be gone.

To heck with him. I felt that way a few years ago but he's teased us for years about how he loves the Patriots then he goes to the Jest. No room at my Inn for Taylor.

when i see those numbers though... it always makes me think why can't we go sign 2 mega stars e.g ngata and woodley... take that salary up to what? 110m per year just like the rest of the teams and have a legitimately scary defense e.t.c

obviously thats my madden side thinking but it is still a valid line of thought.

it means instead of next year having 46 players signd for 65 million... we have 48 players signed for 85-90 million but we now have an OLB stud in woodley and a DL stud in ngata... is that to crazy a thought?

Something else to consider is that this was the Jets only opening to make a SB run and for one reason more than just all of their FA re-signings and the emotional letdown of this loss after all their bluster (and the difficulty generating that bluster they will face next year):

They gave the Pats a rival to destroy.

See, before this year, the Jets were just a team we despise and expect to beat twice a year. If we lose one, it sucks. But we expect to win 2/3 times. It's sort of like back with Indy pre-2006. We never built teams to target them or to beat them specifically. So when we lost to Indy in the AFCCG, what happens?

Belichick builds a leviathan designed to score enough points that no one -- and specifically Indy -- could never hope to lead a late-game rally like that to beat us again.

The Jets gave the Patriots a huge target to aim for this off-season, both specifically in a rival and as a defensive scheme to break. I expect to see major moves this off-season meant to put the Jets back into their hole for a long time.

And I think next year, we're going all the way. :rocker:

They will have some issues, guys will consider retirement and contracts will be hard on them - But, all in all, they are a good team with a serviceable QB - Strong DB's and decent lines. They will be good - The Patriots on the other hand will be down right scary good next year.

You must've read incorrectly.

He read correctly. The Patriots payroll was $148 million this year, highest in the league.

But as we keep telling posters who claim the Patriots don't pay because some years they have a lower payroll, the payroll rankings are deceiving. A yearly payroll includes all signing bonuses, whereas the salary cap does not. Wilfork and Brady's signing bonuses were part of the payroll.

I don't know if their window is closed or even closing, but there are a lot of questions if they will be able to pull it together and be nearly as competitive. They have a lot issues to deal with just to return to the same level of this past year.

One issue that no one is talking about is Revis. They almost have to redo his deal again this year. He said that if he doesn't get a new deal that pays him what he wants by next offseason, he will sit out yet again.

I think the Jets could be in some trouble especially if there the cap isn't significantly higher than the 2009 cap. Their poor draft last year, uses of so few picks in previous years, and the lack of second rounder this year may come back to haunt them too.

BTW, the Jets' version of Miguel has the Jets' current 2011 cap without resigning all these free agents at $117.56 million (in 2009 the cap was $127 million and if the owners get their way, the 2011 cap won't be much higher than that). The Jets are going to have to do a lot of cutting and restructuring to resign their free agents. They are likely going to have to cut loose Woody, Kris Jenkins, Jason Taylor, and/or Tomlinson just to get in position to resign guys like Holmes, Edwards, and Harris.

New York Jets Salary Cap

Unfortunately, Miguel doesn't do a future cap anymore (probably because of the uncertainty of the future cap) to compare the Pats' cap shape.

Yeah they were scared. Are you 12?

So is the link that was given (NFL Salaries 2010, NFL Salaries Cap, NFL Salaries By Position, Team.) their payroll or salary cap number?

other factor that people aren't talking about we had about 14 million in cap space taken up by moss and adalius who we cut and traded this year... that will be put to use next year.

and 11 million on bodden and warren who'll return... so there is money going to use right there... now that i am taking a closer look at the numbers here i honestly can see no reason why BB if he sees anyone he likes that he shouldn't go get them. We have the cap room, draft picks and Seasoned Vet starters coming back.

I can't believe it but i this is the 1st time i have felt better NFL wise since the jets loss laying all that out infront of me
