Hey Rex, the VISA bill just arrived and guess what? they need to be paid. I know you didn't get anything for pissing away the Jets future, but I would get that payment in to avoid the late charge

Not that is is real success, but two AFCCG games in a row. Although they are lucky to avoid a first place schedule, let's see how they deal with the following issues.

1. Low Draft Position
2. High Expectations to Win (real ones, not Rex's fantasy world)
2a. Playing the favorite role
3. Inflated free agency values
4. Coming back from a huge defeat

These are issues the Patriots have dealt with since 2001. Face it, Jets fans, this team will not be the same. Any team can get hot for a year or two, but all of these issues will catch up with this team. Guys like Edwards and Holmes are going to want to break the bank now that they've had some success with the Jets.

Rex Ryan is no longer the lovable mad scientist with the big mouth. Now he's expected to win every year, and he's quickly going to be mentioned with Marty Schottenheimer with the swarming NY media.

Let's see how your organization handles the insane pressures of being a year-to-year contender. My guess is this team falls to mediocrity by this time next year.

They could loose Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, David Harris, Shaun Ellis, and Cromartie, they are all UFA's. Out of all of them I think they will try to sign Holmes.

A couple of things:

1.) We have to admit there are at least a few positives for the Jets. I think there will be some free agents who will want to play for Ryan. Not that they will be the right type of free agents. He will attract a lot of Adalius Thomas types.

2.) We have already seen how drafting late can affect them. Although it is early, their 2010 draft was an unmittigated disaster. Other than Kyle Wilson, most of the picks rarely if ever saw the field or even the active roster. And Wilson is falling so far on the CB depth chart that he will be behind the waterboy soon. From Profootball Weekly:

The Jets have lost confidence in Kyle Wilson, a first-round pick in 2010. Expected to be the team's nickel back, Wilson has dropped far down the depth chart and didn't record a single statistic in the divisional-round win over the Patriots despite the Jets playing in multiple formations with six or seven defensive backs. Wilson had trouble early grasping Rex Ryan's schemes and struggled in man-to-man coverage, which is required to play cornerback in this defense.

We don't have to just think about free agency, we have to add in the old guys. LadyTom and Jason Taylor may get state-paid whirlpools from medicare, but they've got a pretty narrow window left. Sure there are others with talent, not all of them FAs, and the JEST did a good job this year, for a team that has to win SOON. But it's sort of fun to be a fan of a team that went 14-2 in a year when we're rebuilding from just such a situation.

I like our chances as this Pats squad's returning players mature. Not sure what we'll see from NY... I do know we'll see it though, all off-season, on the JEST Television Network, AKA ESPN.

The keys for the Jets are the same as they're for New England this off-season. A lot of emphasis will be placed on the 2011 draft and free agency signings and/or re-signings.

If I'm the Jets, the in house priorities are to resign Santonio Holmes and David Harris.

Possibly free agent targets include Dashon Goldson, Tamba Hali and Champ Bailey (unless Kyle Wilson emerges in training camp). Perhaps, they try to sign Phil Dawson to replace Nick Folk.

I'm guessing that they're stuck with veterans Jason Taylor and LaDainian Tomlinson. They each have one year left.

Mark Sanchez should go back to being a game manager, and the Jets must rediscover Shonn Greene, Dustin Keller and Jerricho Cotchery and rely on them more. And Joe McKnight needs to surpass Tomlinson on the depth chart.

Second, the Pats have six selections in the first three rounds, the Jets have two. The Pats can miss on several picks and still have more impact rookies in these rounds than the Jets have picks.

I don't know if the Jets can afford to make a big splash in free agency after the contracts they wrote last year that hit this year, the number of free agents they will need to resign for good money (Holmes, Edwards, and Harris), and the potential new CBA that will actually shrink the growth of the cap. I expect Tamba Hali to get franchised, but if he isn't I don't think the Jets will be able to afford him.

That's a big "no ****!"

That is one reason I'm not too upset about the loss, because we have a lot of players who haven't really experienced the playoffs, and a rookie OC who choked in his first playoff game.

But that is the decision we made.. we made the conscious choice to do things for the long run, not the short term. So we paid for it in the short term, but in the long term it will be better.

Jets went all in for the short term.

Not that I know of. Just responding to the poster. I am sure that every fan of a 3-4 team in need of a pass rusher is going to say their team will or needs to pursue Hali. Personally, I hope the Pats do as long as his price tag isn't too much.

It's important for both teams to resign certain free agents of their own and to use this year's draft to address concerns at specific positions. Perhaps, the Jets don't have as many free agents to resign either. It depends on their perspective, and how much they value each player in relation to their roles. They may think, could we upgrade here? Do we've the flexibility cap wise? They both have free agents that likely need to be resigned, Holmes and Harris for the Jets, and Logan Mankins and BenJarvus Green-Ellis for New England. Moreover, the Jets have concerns on the defensive line and at safety. Likewise, the same concerns could apply to New England, albeit to a lesser extent. In my opinion, Leigh Bodden and Darius Butler represent uncertainties and Kyle Arrington is a free agent. And Brandon Meriweather will enter the final year of his contract. Will that become a distraction for him?

The Jets own a first round, a third round, a fourth round, a fifth round, a sixth round and a seventh round pick. So, there's plenty of opportunities for taking chances on players you like or to trade up for if you're bold. Ditto for New England.

And I never said the Jets are "chasing" Hali. People need to learn to read and not misread. He was my suggestion, not a matter of fact. The Jets may or may not look at any of those free agents for whatever the reasons. But, I still believe they could target at least one name player in free agency given the number of free agents that they could decide to move on from. Namely, Braylon Edwards, Shaun Ellis and Antonio Cromartie (was he worth a second round pick?). I said Champ Bailey... But, it will likely depend on what the market dictates for corner backs. Also, the Jets proved last year that they aren't afraid to gamble on adding veteran players probably past their prime if it makes sense for them to do so. But, his [Bailey] price tag ultimately is the deciding factor.

The core of their defense should remain intact for some years assuming that they can resign Harris. Because Darrelle Revis, Kris Jenkins and Sione Pouha are under contract for next season. And it might turn out that they've a player in Wilson. We'll see...
