Can anyone tell me now who the free agents are?

I'm not whining in this thread about the loss so it may get no responses, but i would like to know who is going to be a FA now that our season is over.

thanks. I looked briefly but did not see a thread on this.

Pending the outcome of CBA negotiations, technically there will be no FA unless a new CBA is agreed to. There has also been some talk that if a lockout occurs and it drags into the summer the owners will negotiate some sort of stipulation that FA will be postponed until 2012 with all eligible 2011 FA being given some sort of one time salary increase to compensate for the lack of FA. The theory being that if they given the number of FA due to the rules of the expiring CBA delaying FA for many in 2010, if they try to have a FA period prior to going back to work - say in July or August or even later, it will just create chaos and none of the players will have time to assimilate with new teams, etc. And the union would theoretically agree because a flooded last minute FA market under a new cap might not yield the kind of contracts they'd expect to see anyway.

It would be crazy if there was no FA and they just started playing games.

Logan Mankins would still be a year away from free agency, that would suck for him.

Which is why with a lockout looming it was incumbant on players like himself to get a deal done rather than roll the dice and face the potential of losing out on two seasons of peak compensation...

thanks.

2010

CB Kyle Arrington
S Josh Barrett
RB Kevin Faulk
K Shayne Graham
RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis
OL Matt Light
OL Logan Mankins
S Brandon McGowan
RB Sammy Morris
OL Quinn Ojinnaka
S Jarrad Page
RB Fred Taylor
DL Gerard Warren
LB Tracy White

Not too horrible. i would say we definitely need to keep BJGE, Arrington, and Mankins.

Page, McGowan, Faulk and Light would be nice too but maybe its time to move on from them. Light can be great and he can be wildly irritating. The false start penalties are something i will never understand.

If I recall correctly Arrington is an ERFA, and BJGE is a RFA, so it should be easier to retain them.

It is also nice to have a wealth of draft picks with all of the uncertainty, we can at least add talent from the college ranks if there is no free agency.

For comparison purposes here are the JETS pending FA:

Kellen Clemens, QB
Braylon Edwards, WR
Santonio Holmes, WR
Brad Smith, KR
Antonio Cromartie, CB
Wayne Hunter, OT
Shaun Ellis, DE
Trevor Pryce, DE
David Harris, LB
Lance Laury, LB
Drew Coleman, CB
Eric Smith, CB
Brodney Pool, S
James Ihedegbo, S
Nick Folk, PK
Steve Weatherford, P

The JETS are currently estimated at $117M in cap cost for 2011 without re-signing any of those players. When the cap returns it will likely be in the $135M vacinity. The JETS are currently guesstimated to be picking 30th in round one and round three of the 2011 draft with no second round pick due to the Cromartie trade...

Where are we in cap cost (and are the recently signed included in that number)?

The 2009 salary cap was $127,997,000. That is based upon the player pool to receive 60% of the revenues. My understanding of the current CBA negotiations is the owners want to lower the player pool from 60% of the revenues. If hypothetically the player pool is reduced to 55% of the revenues, the salary cap for 2011 would be $129,356,968 if the basis of the calculation is the 2009 salary cap value with a 5% annual increase. If hypothetically the player pool is reduced to 50% of the revenues, the salary cap for 2011 would be $117,597,244 if the basis of the calculation is the 2009 salary cap value with a 5% annual increase.

Tracy White and Jarrad Page also jump out at me as guys who I'd like to see back that should be pretty cheap. Gerard Warren is probably worth keeping around too, for depth's sake.

By keeping Gerard Warren on the roster is just maintaining the status quo. Gerard Warren won't improve the Patriots defensive pass rush at the age of 33. It's time to move forward and develop the young defensive lineman on the New England Patriots roster.

If there's someone better that we can replace him with, then sure, by all means. but if we can't get 5 better defensive linemen on the roster, then why cut loose a guy who, while limited, was fairly productive in his first year in the system?

Let's review the current roster:

Ty Warren
Vince Wilfork
Mike Wright
Ron Brace
Myron Pryor
Darryl Richard
Brandon Deaderick
Kyle Love
Kade Weston

Oh yeah, then there is the 2011 NFL Draft and a nasty fiscal restraint called the 2011 salary cap. Sorry to be repetitive, Gerard Warren won't resolve the New England Patriots defensive pass rush deficiencies. It's time to move on with younger bodies.

A distasteful thot---if there's no agreement and no FA then the Jets get to keep all those stars for another year. We get Mankins and they geta whole nest of playmakers---not fair.

I love White, amazing on ST....it's sad that some people still don't know him though. After he made a big stop on a kickoff (punt?) someone asked who Tracy White is.

I remember when people were questioning the trade for him...paid off IMO.

Edit: Right after I wrote this I found this

But they gotta pay 'em too and some of them aren't getting any younger (including some of their not FA) and they have exactly 2 picks in the first 120something players in the draft vs. we have 4 in the first sixtysomething...

What can I say? You have Gerard Warren rated behind Pryor, Richard, Deaderick, Love and Weston. I don't. We ahve the youngest defense in football. You want to remove a veteran from camp even before it demonstrated that he cannot caompete enough to win one of the six or seven open spots on the roster (all but Wilfork).

We used to carry guys like Pleasant and Lyle at the bottom of our rosters as critical DL depth and to participate as needed. I think it absurd to believe that there is not room for Gerard Warren as the #7 defensive lineman!!!
