Interior OL - aka road graders

OK..who are the Guards/Centers in this years draft that are the road graders. That you line and smash the DL in the mouth?

I completely concur.

I saw Connelly and Koppen get beaten, esp. late in the game when it counted. Without Mankins and the acceptable OTs, we would have been beaten even worse. Connelly and Koppen got their asses kicked.

Makes me wish for the guy just out of reach for us in 2009, Alex Mack, who has proved himself a bigger & better center than Koppen, whose weight gets to the low 290s by the season's end, I think.

Just not powerful enough. I wish we had a bruiser like Mack. Six four and a little over 310.

Don't tell me his weight. He was a football player!

In any case there are plenty of big interior linemen available in the draft. But you need more than size and weight to play in the Pats offense. You need skill, you need to be able to pass protect, pull, and run block. Koppen was playing well this year, but he got leaned on in the last Jets game. I don't think he's going to get any stronger. But OG is a concern. Mankins is pretty good but there's no guarantee we resign him. A tag and trade might be possible. I hope he realizes he's not gonna get 8m+ from the Pats.

My choice for an OL would be John Moffitt from Wisconson. He is 6'4" 323lbs. He plays both center and guard. Has experience at both positions. He would fit the BB idea of flexibilty and would be an instant upgrade at the center size wise where Koppen gets tossed around like a rag doll.

WOW. That is very high praise. I need to look up more info on this guy and watch some tape of him. We really need to get better on the interior. Connelly is just a backup and if hes starting at OG on your team you won't win a Super Bowl. Ellis absolutely destroyed him on two sacks and countless other hurries on Brady. Koppen needs to be upgraded as well. I think the Penn State kid might be a good fit.

Got my eye on Benjamin Ijalana OT, from Wes Bunting. Try to take him at 60 or maybe move up to 50 to grab him. I think he could start at Guard right out of the gate.

"Impression: A downright dominant small-school blocker with a great physical/athletic skill set. Needs to continue to improve his footwork on his kick-slide, but he's a gifted enough athlete to pick that up quickly. The biggest question for Ijalana is, where does he best fit? He's long enough to play left tackle and physical enough to play guard. Either way he's one of the better offensive line prospects at this stage and in my view you let him get comfortable at guard in year one and see if he can make the move to left tackle in year two. "

Good job. This kid is one of my favorites this year as well. I think BB will value his versatility as much as the rest of us. Most draft results project him going anywhere from 3rd to 6th round. I suspect he will go early 3rd or 4th. He has a good body of work and I think once teams assemble their draft boards they will find he was a very productive player.

Andrew Jackson. A mean, 6'5" 305 offensive guard whose ratings are all over the place-from a third round pick to a seventh round pick. Most importantly he's from Fresno State, so he's got the Pat Hill-Belichick connection and he's used to a zone blocking/combination blocking scheme like the Pats use.

He's my mid-round (b)lock of the week candidate for NE.

I'm sure there is a John Hannah clone available. While we are at it hopefully we can add an Anthony Munoz clone at T, a Jerry Rice clone at WR, a Jim Brown clone at RB, and a Lawrence Taylor clone at OLB.

18 posts in and nobody's mentioned Danny Watkins? He may be the most talked-about Pats OG prospect.

Watkins and Boling are my two plug 'em in guard prospects. Ijalana is an intriguing project a little later in the draft, and Moffitt seems like a strong utility guy.

Center is tough this year. Mike Pouncey looks like a guard, not a center. Stefen Wisniewski is a good prospect, but I think he's going to be drafted like a Nick Mangold and he's just not that (especially given his shotgun troubles). I think Rodney Hudson has the makings of a good NFL center, but if I take an interior lineman in round 2 I want him to be ready to start.
