2005- The dynasty ends. Our hated rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, win a Super Bowl.

2006- Patriots suffer their first monumental collapse in the AFCCG. Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts go on to win the Super Bowl.

2007- Patriots the biggest collapse arguably in the history of sports by losing the Super Bowl and their perfect season to the New York Giants.

2008- Eight months following the Super Bowl defeat, Tom Brady is lost in the first quarter of the first game of the season. Patriots go 11-5, but become the first team ever with that record to miss the playoffs. Once again, the hated Steelers win the Super Bowl.

2009- Something didn't feel right all season. Patriots are dominated in the Wild Card round at home to the Baltimore Ravens. The game was over before the first quarter even finished.

2010- Just when people began to feel the same feeling they felt in 2001, 2003, and 2004, Patriots are dominated by the New York Jets. Rex Ryan beats Bellichick. Mark Sanchez outplays Brady. LT finally beats the Patriots in the playoffs.

I know some moron is going to post about how spoiled we are and we should be happy with what we have, but this team has suffered more heartbreak in the past six years than any other team in sports; we have had no more success than the Raiders, Browns, Lions, etc.; this team, like them, has no Super Bowls in the past six years.. At least fans of the Browns and Lions aren't going to be haunted by the memories of games the past six years. Patriot fans will always, ALWAYS remember 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010.

Ill remember 07, but if we go out and take care of buisness this offseason and then on the field next season in the playoffs thats what will resonate over all these failures.

Look at what happened to Tennessee when they tried to turnover their roster. The end.

Actually I'm always going to remember 2001 - 2003 and 2004 were just an added bonus :D

The only year I've put out of my memory is the final game of the '07/'08 - but that's about all I have to say about that

But I wouldn't say hellish - I'd say interesting. The only game that I'd put in that category was the aforementioned one...although I'd put yesterday as a close second.

I'll take that kind of "hell" over being a Bills/Dolphins/Lions/Panthers/Cardinals/etc., etc. fan any day.

Really? Wow.

Like the Lions and Browns, Patriots have nothing to show for the past six years at all. We don't hang up AFC championship banners; we don't hang up AFC East divisional championship banners.

Sure we have a 16-0 banner, but that mocks us more than anything.

Being a fan of any of those teams and seeing them go 14-2 when you didn't think they would only to get knocked out by a bitter rival in the first round may be received a little differently

I think the thing that irritates fans the most (and I'm starting to at least empathize - because I understand it) is the fact that obviously we won't have Brady and Belichick forever. So at least that makes sense. But to call the last six years "hellish" is a bit of an overstatement. As I said there's only one game that I'd put in that category - because the regular seasons have certainly been enjoyable. Obviously it would have been nice to have gotten a couple of other rings in that span - but as most are trying to point out, things could certainly be worse.

You see this is just horrendous stuff. You are the type of guy that would walk away from supporting the team if we had a losing season and I'm certain of that after reading the above.

You call the guy thats going to telling you how good things are a 'moron' before he even says it. In other words you are saying its your thoughts or none at all. What the hell are you doing on a message board?

I sat in Foxboro watching a team go 2-14 and then 1-11 the next year before winning the last four games of the season. I looked at our draft picks looking for any single one of them to add something to the team in the hope that we could improve the next season.

These days all I'm left to wonder about is what our winning record will be. Will it be good enough to win the division and whether or not we will make the playoffs because we are always going to be close.

Cant tell you how sorry I feel for you, must have been awful... exit sarcasm.

Your doing fine

That's actually a great point. Now it's will they just be 9-7, or will they be good enough to go 10-6 or 11-5? Having run this site since 1997 (and was a fan prior to that), I've seen non-winning years, and we've never had to sit through 8-8 (Pete Carroll's last year) or 5-11 (Belichick's first year with Bledsoe at QB) during the Belichick/Brady era. So most 'newer' fans of this team haven't had to go through that yet.

Apparently you think that having a winning season matters. Not only does it not matter, it compounds the pain when you don't reach the ultimate goal of the Super Bowl. Enjoy your divisional champion hats and t-shirts; I'm waiting for the Super Bowl Champion hat and shirt.

And regarding your assertion about me abandoning the team the fact that I still follow the team religiously completely disproves your theory, never mind the fact that I also am a fan of the Celtics (pre-2007), Red Sox (pre-2004), and Bruins.

Let's review the New England Patriots regular seasons from 2005 on .....

2005 10-6
2006 12-4
2007 16-0
2008 11-5
2009 10-6
2010 14-2

Going back to 2003, the New England Patriot have eight consecutive seasons with at least ten or more regular season victories. Since 2003, the New England Patriots have qualified for the AFC Playoffs in seven of eight seasons.

The 2010 NFL season was suppose to be a rebuilding year for the New England Patriots. With fourteen regular season victories, the New England Patriots far exceeded my expectations. In addition, with six draft picks in the first three rounds, the New England Patriots have the opportunity to continue rebuilding the defense (primarily at the defensive line and outside linebacker) and offense (primarily at the offensive line) with quality youth. Those who have the youth have the future.

This is why nobody respects your fanbase. Calling 5 playoff appearences in 6 years hell? Your pathetic. Garuntee your not a pat fan in 5 years

we'll sense you only need a "Super Bowl Champion hat and shirt" shouldnt you just log off and wait for them to win, then log on when they win it all, get your "Super Bowl Champion hat and shirt" .

You know forgo the whole fan, hard times good times thing.

I would take our 6 years over teams who never came close.
I would take our 6 over anyone but Pitt, Indy, NO and the Giants.
Thats us and 27 others who never won anything by your definition.
I'd rather have 5 division championships, 5 playoff wins, and all of the non-Championship level success alon with falling short than never coming close, but thats just me

**** you man. I've lived in Cincinnati at various points throughout my life, making me a Bengals fan as well as a Pats fan. Do you have any idea what that's ******* like? You're right, I am going to call you spoiled, because that's what you are! It's not about the destination, it's about the journey, that's what life's about. It's the way it is. There's a 1/32 chance we're gonna win it all. If it's worthless when we're not that 1/32, you shouldn't watch the sport.

It's about love of the game; love of watching your team go out there knowing that they have a chance every day, knowing that, unlike last year, they are a close group of guys that will play as a team. What more could you ask for? Super Bowls come and go. Memories of the team we had NEVER leave a true fan.

Idiot.

Yes it does matter and a whole lot. When you have losing seasons something is very wrong and its going to take a long time to fix it.

We went 14-2 with bunch of rookies starting. This year was an experience for them but they exceeded all expectations.
