One On One on The Wide Receivers

In the nfl, teams look for their receivers to be defended one on one. This is a situation where teams have a high percentage chance for a big play. This happens even with average wide receivers.

When Moss was here, Revis needed safety help against Moss most of the time. Cromartie need safety help also.

In this game, the corners didn't need help (or not very much). So, when they were in a nickel back situations, they had 3 defensive backs ton defend the middle instead of 1 or 2.

Other teams cannot be allowed to be able to consistently cover our wide receivers one on one. We need better receivers or someone else developing schemes and calling plays. Or both. Tate is not the answer; perhaps Price is. But both wideouts should command a double team.

The Jets rushed 4 for most of the game. We kept a TE or RB to block as well.

That makes 4 receivers vs 7 DB's/LB's.

With the time Tom had to throw early on, we had no chance.

We got beat by a better defense than what played a few weeks back.

Surely you draw up some plays to counter that sort of coverage, slants, quick outs, bootlegs, the odd deep ball etc

The guys on the pregame were right if the refs called a tight game it would favor us, if not the advantage goes to the jets. Their DB's were man handling our WR's and TE's all game. There were plenty of plays that could and probably should have been flagged for at the very least holding.

Not buying it, Super Bowls were won with less receiving talent than the 2010 team had. It's gotta go back to the D. The Patriots haven't had a dominant defense since 2004, it's time to draft some guys to rebuild the front 7.

There are plenty of ways to get guys open, through formation and motion. If NY wanted to stack the middle of the field and press on the outside. We could have used bunch sets and motion to create open space. Our big TE's are good enough in space to be put on the outside as well. Which at bare minimum would take a body away from the middle and you would be asking a smaller player like a cb to do the rerouting before passing him off. What it comes down to is a poor coaching job by the staff and the qb. In game 2 TB always checked into the right play. I dont feel as though he checked or took what they gave him often enough. The result is a loss.

I agree with you--except Revis didn't need safety help "most of the time" against Moss--pretty much shut him down as he has done before----exxcept for the play he pulled his muscle on.

Like I've been saying for a while now, Brandon Tate is not the answer, people kept saying all he needs is time, he's just a rookie. I mean if people aren't convinced now that he's nothing more than a #5 WR on any NFL team, then that his homerism at it's finest. He doesn't threaten anyone, on any defense, no one. This draft and off-season, we need a true, big, physical WR to keep safeties honest and a guy that TB can go to over the middle and deep. If there's one good piece of news, it's that Brady and Belichick are going to obsess this entire off-season over what the Jets schemed. They'll draft and trade accordingly. And it won't work again, at least nearly as well.

The blue print game plan was on full display last night against the dink and dunk, simply cheat everyone up and force the Pats to throw a ball deeper than 30 yards down the field.

Yeah, and it was made worse by the fact that the OC didn't seem to want to call any plays that would defeat this scheme. every ******* down the jets had everyone pressed up against the LOS and brady only went deep once (a pass that should have been complete).

The mind boggles at how this team allowed this to happen. They knew what was coming from the Jets. And they had a letdown last year against the Ravens. I think Belichick is starting to turn into a playoff headcase.

Randy Moss disappears in every playoff game. I don't think his loss hurt that much.

Let's all hope BB moves on from the Brandon Invisible Tate experiment and gets a legimate WR threat in here either through the draft (yes in Round 1 or 2), not round 3 or lower. Or simply in FA. Tate is clearly not the answer.

Julio Jones might be there for the taking late in round 1.

Hate to beat a dead horse and I know it's all spilled milk now, but every time I watch Clay Matthews I want to pull a BP and "throw up in my mouth". Upstater, what was that trade again that BB made on passing on Clay Matthews for the trade down? I forgot the details.

Uh, you don't hate to beat a dead horse, obviously. The fact is, looking back on a draft makes you look foolish. If a majority of Patriots fans hate the Patriots for passing up a player like Matthews because of a draft day screwup, then we have to give back Seymour, McCourty, Ty Law, Mankins, and many others who were all universally panned by Patriots' fans.

Your draft record simply has to be better than other teams, that's it. It doesn't have to be perfect... and by the way, trading down is what has netted the Patriots last year's draft class and this year's.

I am only bringing it back up in light of what alot of us have been discussing, which is the pass rush and lack thereof. So it does sound like you would rather have the guys we netted in that trade instead of the potential DPOY and the ultimate game changer known has Clay Matthews. All is good, I know you've been trying to justify that trade for a while now and your sticking by your guns on this one that BB in the end made the right move, I was just double-checking.
