It was another disappointing end to the season but this team gave us a fabulous ride this year and the future looks bright. We were once again reminded that we are not invincible come playoff time when we've got a heck of a good team. Sometimes it just isn't your day. I'd like to thank this team, the players, the coaches, the Krafts, and all of you who share in the privilege of rooting for and loving this team. At the end of the day we remain one of the most blessed fanbases and with two #1's, two #2's, and two #3's coming up in April's draft in addition to the league's youngest roster, we will certainly have the opportunity to avenge this loss.

It's disappointing and heartbreaking for me and all of you b/c this team was so fun to follow. The 2010 Patriots made us BELIEVE again. We BELIEVED it was our destiny to conquer the NFL mountain and reclaim our status as CHAMPIONS of the National Football League. Regaining that feeling and expectation is an accomplishment in and of itself.

However, at the beginning of the season, that was not necessarily our reality. This team entered the season with question marks everywhere and then underwent a complete transformation during the season. And then they AMAZED everyone with how quickly they gelled and came together to play DOMINANT football.

Of course it hurts to fall short of those renewed expectations but at least we know exactly how close we are. We're just about there, except for few needed tweaks to our offensive and defensive lines. On any giving Sunday, we're capable of playing football as good as anyone and probably have a brighter future than every other team in the league.

In the coming days/weeks there will likely be many negative posts and posters but realize that this was just the first or second playoff game for many of the players on our roster. Our dynasty began with a group of players who experienced a Super Bowl loss and then a gradual decline early in their careers. Those experiences contributed to them becoming the great champions they became. So shall it be with this team. To lose like this in a season in which they played so well for so long will stick to their minds just as the loss in Super Bowl XXXI did to the Tedy Bruschi's, Troy Brown's, Willie McGinnest's, and Ty Law's of Patriots lore.

REGARDING THE DRAFT.

I hope everyone realizes that while we will certainly pick up a lot of players in the coming draft, in all likelihood we will trade down, up, and around the draft board. Some picks and moves will work out and some may not. If you're expecting a RB, expect to be disappointed. The emergence of BJGE and Woodhead will allow us to focus on the trenches. I suspect many will moan and groan while we aim for substance over style and Belichick follows his gut instinct instead of all of our draft publications, but at the end of the day, we all need to believe in Belichick. He's the captain of this ship and I wouldn't have it any other way. In Belichick We Trust.

Enjoy following the Celtics and the college Hoops season and I'll see you around.

Peace,

No disrespect intended, but its tough for me to feel that the Patriots gave us " an incredible ride", when we haven't won a playoff game in years.

I live in Texas. After getting over that playoff win hump last season, Cowboys fans were hoping to have a home game for the Super Bowl. After finishing the 2009 season strong, Texans fans thought 2010 would finally be their playoff year. (and as it turns out, had a good shot at the division title with the Colts having a "down" year) Those two teams combined for less wins than we had this year.

I understand how you feel but believe me, and my Cowboys and Texans fans friends will back me up, the Pats did give us an incredible ride. But like you I do wish the ride had lasted a little longer.

Have to agree with crowell. It's hard to keep my head up when we look utterly awful when the playoffs roll around. It's depressing.

Indeed. We're all together in the same place. I'm sure the players and coaches are even more devastated than we are. That's another admirable quality of the players and team we follow into battle every Sunday afternoon. Just as the 49ers of the 80's returned from a bad stretch of playoff losses ('85, '86, and especially '87 when they had been the league's best team throughout the year), so will we. Our season may have ended but our era is far from over. WE WILL BE BACK TO FINISH THE JOB!

I agree the future is something to look forward too....we have a hell of a foundation ad will only add to it through the draft but it's too early after the loss to think about the future.

shut up, this team had everything going for them.. beat a team that is totally inferior.. no we choked... and now are the second best qb and coach in the division..

Good post. However, right now, pick a cliche to apply to me. Can't see the forest for the trees. The night is blackest before the dawn. ect ect

Waaah, waaah, waaah.

A whole three years without a playoff win. 35-13 in what I guess you consider preseason (the rest of us call it regular season) during that time - but I guess that's just not quite up to your standards. Let's fire everybody in the front office and cut or trade every player on the team. Yep, no playoff wins in three years is a sure sign of utter and complete failure.

Typically about five teams win even just one playoff game in any given year. A boatload of fan bases would love to have the amount of success the Pats have had the last three seasons - even without a single playoff victory.

No wonder so many fans of other teams characterize Pats fans as spoiled, arrogant, etc.; it's because of this type of ridiculous and unreasonable sense of entitlement.

It's not entitlement. No one said "I feel we deserved to win because we had a better record". We're miserable because our team performed like crap in a huge spot, and it's kind of becoming a recurring theme.

Enough with the "other teams aren't as good" logic, because it sucks. No other teams fans would love to get to 18-0 and blow it on some stupid CB leaving his assignment for a shot at getting a bigger contract in the offseason. No other teams fans would love to get smacked around in their own house in the playoffs by their most hated rival. No other teams fans would love to have the word "cheaters" tied to them by some mediot at least once a month. Great regular seasons with zero to show for it come playoff time SUCKS, no matter what team it is.

Are you seriously saying that you would rather have Sanchez and Ryan than Brady and Belichick?

I guess one good thing for me and every other out-of-state Patriots fan is the bandwagon fan smack talk we have had to hear forever is gonna stop and the people who still use it are just stupid. The next time someone accuses me of being a bandwagon fan, all I need to do is point out 5 straight seasons that ended in extreme disappointment at some point. Regardless of when someone started watching them, the people who still call themselves Patriots fans after this game are true fans.

I'm just shocked there are still people on this site that don't have him on ignore.

Finally a thread where the OP doesn't want Brady's or Belichick's head on a silver platter. We have a bright future you guys this loss freaking sucks but with some added veterans on our D and a couple of legit playmakers on offense to help Brady with the load we should have a shot at a SB.

Yeah, we didn't give the offense enough help this year: Crumpler, Hernandez, Gronkowski, Branch, Price, Woodhead.

The offense was the very best offense in the nfl this year. Just having our youngsters learn a bit more will be enough to again have at least a top 5 offense in 2011.

It is really disappointing to see a championship weekend composed of four teams that the patriots have beaten.

Two (or three) different things.

Crowell is complaining because the Pats haven't won a playoff game in three years. In my opinion - perhaps not yours - that's an unreasonable standard, a sense of entitlement.

As for tonight's game, that's an entirely different subject. Yes, the Pats performed poorly in a big game. Result is we as Pats fans are all either angry or depressed.

Regarding the 'other teams', I do think it is relevant. Pats were only supposed to be about 8-8 or 9-7 this year; that's what the OP was referring to in his 'fabulous ride' commentary. As far as I'm concerned the Pats overachieved this season - despite Sunday's dismal performance. It's as if some people would have preferred a 7-9 season than a playoff loss, and that logic baffles me.

Sorry but it's not that rosy. Brady has given no indication that he's still the great playoff performer he was. His last good playoff game was against Jacksonville in January 2008, that's 3 full years he's gone without a good playoff game. Until we at the very least see Tom Brady put up a good playoff game that gets them a win, the future of this team is pretty unknown.

Deny it all you want, the 6th round pick with a giant chip on his shoulder that made him fearless and gave him a swagger isn't the same guy as the 6th round pick who already has a hall of fame resume with a hot ass wife. Tom Brady still got to go home a 3 time superbowl champion with a supermodel waiting in bed for him tonight. He doesn't have the edge he had early in his career. I'm sorry, but it seems like he isn't solely motivated by his "love for the game" as much as he talks about it.

I agree. It'd be like me picking on A&M fans for losing the Cotton Bowl while my Longhorns were sitting at home after a fugly 5-7 season. Hey, at least we didn't lose a bowl game! ;)
