We can usually count on the Pats being smart about the clock, but the Pats pace in the second half, and especially the 4th quarter was strange. Almost like Philly in SB 39.

Because you get a possession and then the other team does, you have to look at the game as a series of back-and-forth possessions. By running the clock down in the 4th quarter, they left themselves with about zero room for error. They should have been in hurry up as long as they were down 2 scores in the second half.

Had they scored it wouldt have been an issue.

It was the most frustrating and confusing series by this team in the BB era that I can ever remember. They effectively killed the clock, constantly running it down to one or two seconds. What was BOB thinking? Can someone explain ?????

That's brilliant. If you're assuming a score, wouldn't it be better to score with 8 minutes left than with 4 minutes left?

Yes Andy, it would.

Tell me how running 7:45 off the clock, being behind 2 scores in the 4th quarter, is a good idea?

Even if they scored a TD or a FG, it was poor clock management and did not leave enough time should the Jets get a couple of 1st downs.

I see no logical explanation for it, not when you are down TWO scores. I was insane. I swear the Jets on the sideline were thrilled watching the Patriots run out the clock for them.

most complaining have the timing off. They had the ball for 7:00 minutes and were moving the ball well. When the drive ended, there was still over 5 minutes to play....The failure was not getting at least 3 points and making it a 1 score game. The Jets were playing the pass and the Pats moved the ball on the ground. Scoring with 5-6 minutes left to play with 2 time outs leaves plenty of time. Again, the failure was not getting at least a FG...and I blame the 3rd and 13 call from the 32 yard line..you have to get a dump off there for 7-8 yards and kick the FG. The incomplete forced them to go for at on 4th and 13 because they were just out of FG range.

You have to score there is the bottom line...hurrying too quickly to get the score and bad things could have happened..pick, sack.

Beyond insane. I just don't get huddling up every time and taking the play clock down over and over. I don't mind running plays as long as the team is getting to the line and going with the next play, but the rest was garbage.

Getting the ball back with 4 minutes left and an opportunity to win the game is better than scoring with 4 minutes left and hoping to get the ball back still down a score.

Brady had Welker for a 10 yd gain, then it would have been 4th and 3 and they could have kicked the FG or had a better shot at getting a 1st. Brady should have taken it, he wasnt himself tonight.

I agree...but how do they score is the question. Jets were blanketing the WRS all game. They had to score..if that meant running and killing more time than you would like, so be it. Jets were playing the pass and the Pats took advantage and moved the ball. The sack...a pass play made it 3rd and 13.

I was screaming during that whole sequence for Brady to hurry the **** up. No sense of urgency at all, pathetic is the right word.

the problem is, there is never any guarantee you will score. At that time, the pats needed to maximize their chances and letting the clock run down did not do that.

The time management issue is referring to how often the Patriots let the clock go down to 1 or 0. If the only way you can advance the ball is to run, then run. But don't huddle up and use up the entire play clock on every play. Their strategy seemed to want to take time off the clock.

Don't forget that a good part of Brady's game involves using the play clock to force the defense to tip their hand. He looks at their lineup, motions guys around, forces them to get into a "final" look, and then uses that to shred them.

It sucks that the Pats got behind in the game, but I still would prefer to have Brady doing what's worked his whole career. If they scored on the slow drive they still would have had a solid chance to win.

The Patriots were confused all day and looked very unprepared on offense. That was apparent by their out of synch routes and general failure. On that drive, I don't think running the clock down was intentional. They just could come up with a play fast enough and likely figured that, even if they take extra time to do so, failing to score would lose the game.

Just overall confusion and terrible preparation. Running the ball wasn't the worst idea given the Jets alignments. Taking forever to decide what to do was a killer.

None of this really mattered anyway. This game felt over in the first quarter and basically was over when they failed to move the ball to begin the second half.

Wrong. The Jets wanted to shorten the game, we took care of that for them - and to show the ramifications of what could happen to a team that is down big and shows no sense of urgency, we proceeded not to score after a slow methodical drive and were still down by 2 scorse w/ only 5 mins to go instead of 13 mins.

The coaching staff was just arrogant. They assumed we would score and the Jets wouldn't.
3rd and 13 to 4th and 13 killed us. I blame BB for that.
Even a 52 yard FG had a better chance of netting points. Graham is good with FGs

Its because the nfl is scripted..its for pure entertainment only and not to be taken seriously..much like pro wrestling.
