according to twitter, Chung called the Fake punt

The players execute the plays. The fake punt was EXACTLY the kind of shot in the arm that wins games that you ain't otherwise winning. See, Chung isn't supposed to DROP THE BALL there.

Bull****...11-5 teams pull that **** in the first half of a game when they are behind by 4 points. Not 14-2 teams. If you got to run gimmicks that early in the game then your not the team that everyone thinks you are.

I'm fine with the fake punt, but the clock management near the end there was moronic. I was actually wondering (and still am) if Brady was somehow injured, because they ran the ball much more than they should have.

I'm not fully buying that. Chung may have called it based on what he saw, but those decisions ultimately come from the coaching staff. Someone gave Chung the okay.

Ok, then how about the fans at Gillette? Sad really... Down two scores with minutes to go, and the stadium is half empty....Really?? With Tom Brady on your team?? That was shocking. Then you come within ONE SCORE to tie the game with time remaining! Unbelievable faint-hearted fans that give up on their team. Granted it wouldnt be easy, but you have Tom Brady folks!! I dont ever want to hear guff from your fanbase about other fans. Ridiculous really.

The crowd was absolutely pathetic from start to finish today. They weren't even loud when the defense was on the field in the first quarter. What happened at the end of the game was just par for the course.

Dude, the coaches were bad today. Yeah they weren't the whole problem, they weren't a majority of the problem, but they were bad.

- Benching Welker. This was completely unnecessary and just a stupid move. In the playoffs, each play counts, let alone each drive. We'll never know how different the first drive would have played out, if at all, but it remains a stupid move that put the team at a disadvantage.

- Wasting an early challenge/TO. Yeah it didn't come back to haunt us, but still another stupid decision. No proof whatsoever that ball hit the ground and really could have bit us worse than that.

- The fake punt was a BAD CALL. I could care less what it should/would do, this was an act of desperation when the game was 7-3. When you're a 14-2 team playing at home and getting the ball to begin the 2nd half, why are you risking giving the ball away at MIDFIELD when you're defense is already being hung out to dry for most of the quarter. Bad call.

- We finally get some offensive momentum going throwing from the gun and upping the tempo a little so what do we do on the following drive? Come out with a ridiculously slow tempo (not sure if that was on the players or coaches, but the complete lack of urgency you would have to assume a coach would say "get your ass up to the line and snap the ball")

Good post. If you asked BB if he thought he got OUTCOACHED tonight.....He would definitely tell you HE AND HIS ASSISTANTS DID! (Didn't catch the presser....but I am sure he mentioned that the coaches didn't get it done today) It was a TOTAL TEAM LOSS tonight. Brady was awful......OL was terrible overall and couldn't protect.......WR couldn't get any seperation (Blame some of that on Obee because you HAVE TO DO something to open up the passing game) TE's UNDERUTILIZED (did Hernandez even play?) BJGE not given the rock enough and they kept trying to go to the "well" with woodhead.......Defense did not play well either.....but were on the field for a few long drives after O did nothing and they got little rest tonight......oh and the coaching sucked....did I mention that!!!!

PS.....the drops by our WR/TE, and chung.....were devestating as well.....and another key to our loss tonight.....just pathetic

Kontra, I noticed that. When NY had the ball, it was a gentle buzz of noise. Then giving up on the team? These arent the Bills youre rooting for.....you have a SB team and Brady at the helm. ANYTHING can hapen. What gives?

The Pats looked like they confused themselves on offense

Players out of position, Brady holding the ball forever. I heard the announcers say the Pats were running a whole new set of plays. Well that didn't seem to work at all

It reminded me of what Rex said about the last game. His game plan was so exotic it ended up confusing the players and caused more harm than good.

The yuppies probably started pregaming too early and drank too many wine spritzers.

Part of it is on the coaching staff, but again it comes down to the players executing and they didnt do that.

The fake punt was by far the turning point in the game in my book. I saw that Chung called for it, but the coaches had to give him the okay to make that call. That is on them, it just wasnt the time for the call. Why are the Patriots looking to trick the Jets? They are the more talented team, just play the game out. The Jets werent going to score if the Pats punted, probably would have just taken a knee and go into the half up 7-3. The Pats were getting the ball, whats wrong with that? Instead they took a bad chance and it hurt them and were now down 14-3 at the half, and playing catch up from double digits, something they were not used to this year.

Another example was Bradys INT. Yes, it was bad execution, but a bad play call. You already ran a reverse 3 plays before that, why would the Jets think theyd run it again? If you wanted to call a screen just call a screen, no need to throw the fake reverse wrinkle in. It threw the whole timing off.

I thought the first half play calling abandoned the run too much. This year the Pats were very balanced between run and pass and they got away from that in the first half. Then in the 2nd half when they needed to push the tempo, instead it slowed down.

I could go on and on, but in the end this loss is on both the coaches and the players. The coaches could have called a better game, and the players could have executed better.

I'd say that about sums it up. The coaching staff **** the bed today. Zero question about that. The Welker benching in particular was just bizarre given that this was a playoff game. Make him run laps. Buy snacks all week after practice. Fine him. It was just silly.

This one is going to sting and it should, particularly for the guys wearing the headsets.

The Welker benching had nothing to do with the outcome in the game. The Patriots actually moved the ball on the first possession without him, something they couldnt do much of even with him on the field.

Well, he had the opportunity to see what we could do to them at our best for 45 points, and made a game plan to prevent it. Credit where it's due.

Still, completing an 84 yard drive with a TD instead of an INT, and the jets floundering offense early sure wouldn't have made Rex look like a defensive genius. You have to make plays and execute.

Great to be a genius, but pretty hard to be one with INTs, dropped passes and flubbed fake field goals.

Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein.

Joe Theismann, Former quarterback

The challenge? No way he caught that clean. Unfortunately, without a better angle, the play on the field stands.

Why can't people accept we failed to make crucial plays, while the Jets made some. They even missed a chippie field goal, but we didn't take advantage.

We made plenty of big plays in our winning seasons and other teams can make them too. Learning experience.

Man he caught that ball.

Anyone who thinks BB to the guy that takes out the ******* garbage isn't above criticism is the very definition of a moron.
