If they treat Brady like every other player, then this may be the year with maybe 4 first round qb's coming out. They have the extra picks to do it this year, or maybe they trade one for a #1 next year and do it then.

I know Brady just signed a long contract and he is playing some of his best football now. But you know how the Pats do it. They project. Brady will be 34 next year, and I'm not saying You draft a QB to start soon, but maybe 3 years down the road. Also it could be good insurance, as much as I like Hoyer, I'm not sure he can win games for you long term.

Any thoughts?

Tom Brady just had an MVP season, did you not watch any of the games? We were 14-2 and lost one game. Don't give up on Tom, he probably has another 5 years left.

This topic makes me really sad but it's time to start to face reality. He is going to be 34 next year. When's the last time a QB 34 or older won a Superbowl besides Elway?

Guys like Favre and Warner give me hope but when you have older QB like those, they get hit early and they get rattled.

I think if a QB is there when our pick comes up you have to take him.

Brady is no more immortal than any other player ... I doubt Hoyer is the answer.

They have enough picks to do both

Pass rushers are like money....you can never have too many.

The pats should draft every pass rusher in the draft...trade next years pick and get more

I am not completely against this. I think with any QB, there needs to be some maturation point. Rodgers has proved what can be done with a high pick and then waiting/learning. QBs like Bradford are anomalies and god forbid if something happens to Brady.

Is it wrong to have someone waiting in the wings? I don't think so. And I know Hoyer is there but my gut just tells me he is a career backup.

No chance the Pats take a QB early in the 2011 draft. The only one of the top 4 QB's that might be available at 33 would be Mallet, and that guy has bust written all over him. While I can understand the thinking behind drafting a future QB, this year isnt the time to do it. This is a very weak QB class there isnt a single QB that I would be comfortable calling my QB of the future. Maybe trade a pick forward for a future 1st and try to strike gold with a high pick and a top QB. Otherwise continue to draft projects in the late rounds to continue to try to find the next Brady.

If Jake Locker fell to 33 I might consider it because the has the physical tools and could be groomed behind Brady, but even then I probably wouldn't do it. I think this is all just a massive overreaction and everyone needs to take some time to calm down. Brady is still the best QB in the league and still has plenty of good years left in him.

As long as Tom Brady can consistently lead the Patriots to the playoffs every year, a QB replacement should not be a priority.

what a waste of a pick that would be.

In three years. That gives Brady the choice between 4 and 5 more years, so the new QB gets either one or two years to sit and study from the best.

If the Patriots KNEW that Brady planned to play one last year, they might consider it the draft before, but I doubt they'd do it much earlier than that, if only because of the salary issues involved (even with a rookie scale, it's still investing a significant chunk of cap space for a player who will likely see little time on the field).

no. If we must, I'd prefer to sign Matt Moore or Alex Smith.
