The players execute the plays. The fake punt was EXACTLY the kind of shot in the arm that wins games that you ain't otherwise winning. See, Chung isn't supposed to DROP THE BALL there.

The Pats didn't choke--although Brady was off--and they weren't outcoached. The Jets' D played outstandingly well. That's all folks.

Maybe but the fake punt was HORRIBLE. They didn't need to score there, they needed to manage the possession so the jesters wouldn't score again in the half. 7-3 would have been OK. And, yes, I did say that before the fake punt. Belichick pulled a Matt Ryan there.

Moron here. The staff was terrible today. All three phases. The plan was to reroute the recievers and make Brady hold the ball. So you should run the ball. Patience, and run the ball. The staff had no answers. Tons of zone and coverage sacks. No answers.
Rex Ryan and Shotty outcoached these guys by a mile. Sad but true.

How about we put Welker or an Edelman or a BJGE there instead of Chung who isn't used to recieving snaps/direct snaps

My guess is that the presence of a skill/hands player who usually isn't in that position would tip our hand.

The fake punt was a good call, the play was there, probably a long gainer, and Chung dropped it.

By the way -- Simms made a big deal about snapping the ball to people who don't usually take snaps then, but had no comment on a couple of direct snaps (2-pt play, direct to Woodhead) that worked.

The coaches chose to put the ball in Chung's hands in a situation that he's never been in in his career, on our side of the field, on fourth down. That play was a ton of risk, and not a whole lot of reward. If we play that safe, we go into halftime in a one-possession game, but instead we all but handed the Jets their second touchdown. Of course that's on the coaches.

Dude, the coaches were bad today. Yeah they weren't the whole problem, they weren't a majority of the problem, but they were bad.

- Benching Welker. This was completely unnecessary and just a stupid move. In the playoffs, each play counts, let alone each drive. We'll never know how different the first drive would have played out, if at all, but it remains a stupid move that put the team at a disadvantage.

- Wasting an early challenge/TO. Yeah it didn't come back to haunt us, but still another stupid decision. No proof whatsoever that ball hit the ground and really could have bit us worse than that.

- The fake punt was a BAD CALL. I could care less what it should/would do, this was an act of desperation when the game was 7-3. When you're a 14-2 team playing at home and getting the ball to begin the 2nd half, why are you risking giving the ball away at MIDFIELD when you're defense is already being hung out to dry for most of the quarter. Bad call.

- We finally get some offensive momentum going throwing from the gun and upping the tempo a little so what do we do on the following drive? Come out with a ridiculously slow tempo (not sure if that was on the players or coaches, but the complete lack of urgency you would have to assume a coach would say "get your ass up to the line and snap the ball")

I agree with you on the fake punt. I do think the Patriots suffered from some nervousness and it affected their play, however the Jets did play some outstanding D. Far better D than they have played all year long I'd wager.

The play worked, the player dropped the ball. When these aggressive plays are executed, he's Norman Einstein.

Bingo, the Pats and Colts will not be patient enough lately.

The coaches have to take a lot of heat for running the cloak down down 10 pts. They wasted 7 minutes and scored no points. You have to throw the ball every down. Can't kill the clock for the jets.

We played right into their plan. They played perfect bend but don't break. Usually it's us doing this to perfection, but today Rex easily got the better of BB

Gronk and Hernandez were not used much. Instead they went with Crumpler. no trust in the rookies?

Hernandez missed a lot of practice, so I can see maybe easing off on him a bit, but I really don't get what they were trying to do with Gronk. He was doing great out there until they decided to stop sending him out on routes.

Anyone who can't see the glaring problems with the coaching today is a moron.

The fake punt was a stupid call, a stupid risk to take and gets very little in return. At that point we should have tried to pin them as far back as we could and trusted in our D as they were playing good.

Something should have been done to take the pressure off of Brady starting in the first quarter. We should have gone heavy and pounded the ball with BJGE/Woodhead/ (NOT in the 4th when your down by 2 scores) to wear down the D and make them respect the run and follow that up with some play action.

Then when the offense has driven down the field a few times and the D is committed to the run change to the the quick strike passing attack that we use so well, and keep mixing it. Have Crumpler/Gronkowski throw chip blocks on pass rushers and then go out for a pass.

If BOB had a game plan along those lines and stuck to it I'm confident we would have won today.

Oh please. Let's stop with that. The coaching staff has been excellent throughout the season. Bill O'Brien has been great throughout the season. Tonight he screwed the pooch. Execution and coaching were absolutely horrible.

1. The fake punt was one of the worst calls I've seen. IMO, you never attempt a fake punt unless you've crossed the 50 yard line. We were on our own 30 which meant that failure had the Jets already in field goal range. With Sanchez playing the way he was playing (relying on dump offs and short routes and not going deep), that move played right into the Jets hands. We have not been a particularly successful team going for it on fourth down and that only added to it. Shades of Indy in 2009 all over again.

2. Anybody still convinced that interior O-Line and DE are not issues which need to be dealt with early on in the draft? The interior blocking, particularly from Koppen and Connolly, was absolutely dreadful today. The Jets were getting pressure up the middle all day. This team could definitely use a youth movement at both C and RG. On the other side of the ball, the Jets didn't have to run up the middle. They were taking what they pleased on the outside all game long. DE must improve and, not to kick a dead horse, but this was really a spot where we could have used Seymour... AGAIN. Furthermore, Ninkovich is sub-par (and that's putting it kindly) at setting the edge. We need another OLB as well.

3. Defensively, Chung is still an issue in coverage. The Jets were going after him a lot today and, most of the time, Chung was behind the man he was supposed to be covering. Darius Butler was again abused by Braylon Edwards. McCourty looked like a rookie out there today, but was not nearly as bad in coverage as some of his counterparts. Bodden coming back healthy will be a welcome sight for this secondary as Holmes had his way at times with Arrington.

4. Brady hasn't resembled the quarterback of the past in the playoffs in the last couple of seasons. Last season, against Baltimore, he never looked comfortable in the pocket and was missing receiver after receiver. I dismissed that performance because I believed that he got hurt on the Ray Lewis sack and his O-Line didn't show up at all. They didn't show up in the first half today either, but there were moments where he had time and was throwing it at the feet of receivers who weren't even looking at him. He looked skittish and jittery in the pocket even when there wasn't any pressure on him. Suffice it to say that this team lived by Brady all season and, today, they very much died by him.

5. O'Brien made some very bad decisions today that he didn't usually make in the regular season. The Jets were playing man coverage and were typically dropping a safety down into the box leaving one safety deep. With that in mind, the TE's should have been burning up the seam (particularly Gronk) to make them pay for that. It worked sporadically throughout the game when we actually let Gronk run routes. But Gronk, from what I saw, was relegated to blocking mostly later in the game. The sad thing was that, a lot of the time, Light had his man handled and Gronk wasn't blocking anybody. When you have a 6'7" TE like him and you aren't using him, something's wrong. Do I even have to bring up the abundance of running plays with five minutes to go or BB yelling at him to throw the football on the sidelines? Horrible decision. The team should have stopped giving Woodhead handoffs and should have relegated that duty to BJGE. Woodhead was relatively ineffective in the running game until the fourth quarter when the Jets were letting the Pats run the ball to help kill the clock. Woodhead should have only been used in the passing game. Another failure by BOB.

In all, there were failures in both execution and coaching today. But the coaching failures were MUCH more noticeable than they had been at any point in the regular season.

Hernandez missed a lot of practice, so I can see maybe easing off on him a bit, but I really don't get what they were trying to do with Gronk. He was doing great out there until they decided to stop sending him out on routes.

That was really my only complain about O'Brien in the regular season. Other than that, I thought he was outstanding. Today, not using Gronk in the passing game once again reared it's ugly head. I really don't understand it. Like I said, the Jets were playing man coverage and were dropping a safety into the box. There really isn't an excuse not to use Gronk there.

Where the hell was the pass rush in this game? Did the pats ever touch the qb? I can only remember one hurried pass.

Some good thoughts there Kontra. Unfortunately for us as fans this team has taken on the mantle of playoff chokers now. Giants, Ravens and Jets have all smacked us where we were clear favorites. I could have sworn I was watching the flawed 2009 Patriots today not the 2010 Patriots.

It's 10.03AM here. I'm not even allowed to have a beer and drink today away.
