Leigh Bodden update

In a way, the secondary going into next season is better now that Bodden was lost for the season. Don't get me wrong, it sucks that he was out for the year and we definitely could have used him at the beginning of the season. But, without him being hurt, guys who have been pressed into action out of necessity would have not seen the field. Arrington has improved by leaps and bounds in this system, for one. As has McCourty, being that he's had to see extended playing time from Week 1 partly due to Bodden's injury. In all, the secondary is that much better going into next season with Bodden coming back healthy. Hopefully, he can maintain that health.

I am 100% truthful in saying that with the expected maturation of young players, the return of Ty & Leigh, and anticipated hitting on even just a couple of the top 6 draft picks that I expect the Patriots will be BETTER next year, barring injuries that are worse even than those suffered this year.

Yes, this is a great time to be a Pats fan.

Let's just hope there's a football season to enjoy...

Lets hope that Big Vince stays healthy...he anchors the DL....

Leigh being back healthy will be a big boost also. Can Ty return to 100% after surgery is a big question....

Hope to see him back at full strength and skill next year. While I'm sure he's pleased with how the Pats are doing, it has to be killing him inside to not be a part of this run.

Bodden is one of the Twitter heavyweights so anyone that is interested to find out more about him should access his tweeting history.

I am surprised he is signed a 4 yrs $22M contract. It seems like with everyone else basically on rookie contracts back there, it is doable I suppose. After all, he was by far the best defensive back in 2009.

It will be nice to see Bodden and McCourty as the starting set with Arrington in there on the slot guy. This may allow Chung to get back to being a full time safety as opposed to being used in as much coverage which is not exactly his forte. I guess this should help reveal BB's opinion on Brandon since it'll force his hand to take away snaps from Sanders or Chung or Meriweather.

Butler slides to 4th? And with all the picks you got to assume there will be at least one rookie in the fold. I hope Wilhite kept the phone number of his former draft buddy who plays the same position and was recently cut, because he'll need some advice.

The Patriots have traded the []th selection in the Draft for an undisclosed selection in the 2012 Draft. . . .

yea good point. i was wondering today if you thought BB could trade Carolina back their pick for next year's first. I would have to assume Carolina 2012 will be top 5.

I don't know why, but I have a strange feeling that Bodden has played his last game as a Patriot... No clue why

Pats are on the hook to see some kind of return on the $10m in guaranteed money he got when they signed him.

He won't get cut if hes healthy, but if hes substandard in 2011 he may be out of a job in 2012.

BB will trade down as he always does. He'll get to the draft position he wants whilst accumulating futures. He really is the master of this.

I really can't wait to see what a vastly improved secondary will look like with Bodden back in the mix next season!

I have been thinking this all year... but at the beginning of the season I didn't think they'd be this good this year...

He was signed to that contract considering not only the available talent but the makeup of the team. That has changed with this rookie class. With fewer vets (read big $$ players)we can take in a big contract like Nnamdi and this may almost certainly force either his eventual release or reneg on his contract. All these draft picks and cheap FAs make it more likely we can take on bigger contracts on proven players, maybe we can win over some vets at a home town discount again to win more championships?!? Times are GOOD!

Boddin gives the secondary one thing its been missing and that some size. With all the big tall WR around the league these days, it will be nice to have someone who cast match up. Watching Butler bounce off Braylon Edwards all day in the first Jet game is not my idea of a good time.

I don't know why but I have a strange feeling that Ty Warren has played his last game for the Patriots. Maybe they keep him around because of his salary but management cannot be too pleased with him. I hope he enjoys his degree.

As far as Bodden it depends on who they get in the draft. The Patriots may draft yet-another-cornerback and it they are as successful as last year...
