Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that we've put together another PatsCast to preview the divisional round, and it can be found here. As always, thanks to Jay for providing great insight, and a fantastic list of things to watch for on Sunday. Hope you enjoy it!

Good to see you posting a bit more again.

Cool stuff. I'll take a listen.:)

Give this one a listen, man. I think you'll get a kick out of the 15 minutes I spend going off on how wrong I was about O'Brien. You were so right.

I'll give it a listen, but not because of that. I love your takes, even when we don't agree.

You're slacking! I had already listened to the whole thing before you posted here ;)

Awesome stuff as usual. I swear I'd never get tired of listening to Jay talk about football :D

bump......

Cool-was wondering what happened to you guys, not so much time off next time, OK !!

Being snowed in is a great reason to listen to a podcast!

As is being stuck at work, so that pretty much covers all bases!

That was awesome listening! Thanks for posting! I'm going to go listen again. Beats listening to PFW guys screaming at eachother about boobs and feet....

Being at work is another great reason. I prefer to call it "multitasking." Giving it a listen now...

Definitely, just be sure that you don't lapse into full-on dogfaking.

This podcast is pretty tight. Pretty amazing how quickly BOB has gone from zero to hero... hopefully by keeping him under wraps to some extent the Patriots can keep some other team from filching him away.

Great job guys. I've missed these!!!

I'd be interested in hearing Jay's thoughts on Vollmer. I know in a previous podcast he had observed seeing Vollmer relying more on his (ridiculous) innate athleticism at the expense of his technique. I wonder if he's seen that diminish as the season has gone along.

Vollmer's been one of my favorites from the start. I think that early on, he (like any rookie) got by on athleticism. He had decent technique early on but wasn't a classic technician like Matt Light for example. There's a lot that goes into playing line at the NFL, and that transcends playing technique alone. If you saw that SoundFX on Belichick, you may remember him getting after Kaczur on "setting for the TE". It may have seemed like he meant tight end, but what he was talking about was the tackle-end stunt. The end crashes down the line and the tackle loops around. It also works in inverse. It takes good awareness to pop and pass the end, then set in your stance to pickup the tackle.

I think that while his technique has gotten to where it needs to be at the pro level, his awareness is really where he has improved. He'll always win a one on one matchup because of the athlete he is. What gave him (relative for the exceptional player he is) the trouble was in picking up zone blitzes, stunts, and overloads. That's only natural for a young player. He's really gotten exceptional at this aspect of his game. He's probably the second best player on that line right now, and is a really unheralded part of that offense.

Awesome. Thanks for the write-up. Do you see them moving him to LT once Light is gone, or do you think they'll keep him at his current position?

Yeah, Vollmer's footwork and length are ideal for the left tackle. The interesting thing is that he also has the power and burst to play the right tackle. Unless they add a guy after Light who is exclusively a left tackle Vollmer will assume that spot.

Just wanted to give this a bump in case anyone wanted to listen to this as their day winds down or for their commute. I'll be online all afternoon and evening if anyone wants any questions, comments, or criticisms answered.
