A month ago, I saw the Pats DL situation as plenty of depth but lacking a classic 3-4 DE stud. Since then, though, we've come to realize the severity of Wright's brain injury and watched Pryor struggle to get on the field with a balky back. Their inside rush abilities give the defense key scheme flexibility. Now, the depth consists mostly of immovable object types like Brace and Deaderick.

Is Pryor & Wright's uncertainty changing anybody's draft thinking? Jumping on the Stephen Paea bandwagon, perhaps?

I was going back and forth on the bigger need olb or a 3-4 de. Now, I would say a 3-4 de. I'd like to get both. Cam Heyward? at 17. And, trade up to 19 or 20 to get the other Aldon Smith-olb. I'd give up our own 2nd. I think we can get that pick back if we want(early 3rd) by trading down from 33. I

It doesn't change anything in my mind, it impacts the playoffs but not the offseason.

For 2011 I still rate DL as a high priority but not dire. For some reason I they want to make sure that Ty Warren sees a lot of competition for his roster spot. If he goes back to school again this year and misses some of the camps I think they will move on.

Subject to change based on how the DL does in the playoffs.

I assume this means that you're penciling them in healthy for 2011? Wish I could share your optimism. :(

That was my asssumption, Wright, Brace, Pryor all come back healthy.

Just thinking about, lets give Jarvis Green a call to replace Wright's inside pressure... remember that 3 sack game against the Colts, that was great.

Is there any reason not to expect Ty Warren and Brace not to come back healthy? Warren has corrected a 2-year issue and should be stronger than before. Brace didn't have an injury that should be caree-ending.

I don't have the same confidence regarding the oft injured Wright and Pryor.

So, my bottom line is that I want us to re-sign Gerard Warren and I expect a 2011 line of
Warren, Wilfork, Warren, Brace, Deaderick, Love plus one addition.

I'm happy with both Warrens, but it seems to me that the 6 players you named are essentially a 1st and 2nd team pure base defense, with little variety in skill sets.

I think it will impact the Patriots draft strategy this year. I honestly think that we are going OL or DT with the first pick, and of course the possible (likely) trade back.

I for one feel my opinion was impacted by the injuries. I think we need a 3-4 DE that has a multifaceted game. We have a good group of role players, but with injuries we have a smaller rotation of said role players who you really don't want seeing a huge number of snaps.

I think a seymour is wishful thinking, but i wouldn't mind a young ty warren type player being added if tiny isn't going to come back at 100% I know the reports are that he had this issue for 2 years and it's being corrected but they are just that rumored reports. The truth is we don't know that he will come back and be the player he once was and you plan to fail when you fail to plan.

Maybe now we're looking for another interior sub-rusher in addition to a tall, stout 3-4DE.

OTOH, I'm wondering where Darryl Richard (6'2"/303) and Kade Weston (6'5"/315) might fit into all this.

They will be playing for someone else. Why does it matter if Ty Warren goes to school? He's a defensive end not a skill player.

Absolutely not, but it's an interesting question.

I'm expecting them both back.

But that's not material to me: I don't give a rat's @$$ how much Pass Rush the Grizzlies bring!! Give me 1000 Pounds up front, draft Ryan Kerrigan, Aldon Smith, AND Steven Friday...and let'er RIP!! :D
