I know thats a BIG IF. Even if they found a way to win this game and not the SB, it seems like Rex is setting himself up to take the credit by taking the spotlight off his terrible QB and the rest of his team by shooting his mouth off and being a fool. All this BS he is spewing is obviously calculated.

When I heard the coach of Auburn say he was happy to be a "small part" of winning the championship. I was thinking you would never hear Rex be so humble.

We need to serve him a big piece of humble pie. I guess 45-3 wasn't enough.

For me, this is a hypothetical/conjecture too unbearable to ponder.

As much as it pains me to contemplate that hellish nightmare scenario,

I think its a given. If the Jets win the SB, then yes, Rex will be hailed as a genius and that he makes his players respond to his style of motivation. In that they don't want to prove him wrong, or that they want to live up to the expectations he's setting up with his big mouth.

It's already happening actually. People are already talking about how he's a great coach because he got them to the playoffs two years in a row.

If he/they win the SB... I recommend not watching any sports stations until Sept. It will be unbearable.

Not only that, but all of the tangential stuff will be praised and possibly emulated by young coaches who thrive in the "Ryan Way". They will pimp their wives/significant others on atl.com, publicize weird fetishes via youtube videos, and consume so much trans-fats that they will end up perpetually looking like they are nine-months pregnant will the seed of Shaq... or perhaps a rhinoceros fetus. :D

Prob not but it will prove that he took the right approach for his football team. He talks smack about other teams to get his team fired up. He wants his guys to go out there and make sure they don't eat their own words. They love being hated because it motivates them even more. He is the right coach for that team.

i'd say no , not in general, because that would imply it's something that should be replicated by others

it works for rex because he does it to take the spotlight off his players, which i understand, and can sorta see the logic in.

but it's risky to ever provide enemies with added motivation

so in the end, no it's not genius, but it has it's merits on a very limited scale

I think people, specifically ESPN would jump all over it. "Rex takes pressure of team etc. etc." I think that's BS I don't think it effects how his team plays at all. However I do think he is a good coach and I do think he respects the Pats. Honestly, some of the stuff he has said about Belichick and Brady has been dead on and then other times he just says the ridiculous. At the end of the day the better TEAM will win no matter what was said or not said and none of it is "genius".

This.

Oh by the way, he could lose the game after this Sunday's and as long as it isn't by a score of 45-3... say, if the J-E-S-T are in it up to the 4th quarter... he'll still be called a genius.

If the JEST win this Sunday, ESPN et al. will make sure to sing his praises all the way until next season, not to mention trumpet the changing of the guard in the AFCE.

Yet another reason to hate on the JEST this Sunday.

Rex thinks he's Dallas Jimmy Johnson. JJ had Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith not Mark Sanchez and Mr Classy.

If the Jets win the Super Bowl, two things are going to happen:

1) Someone will write a book about Rex Ryan called "Swaggerlicious".

2) I will drive my car off a cliff.

is that you, mr seau?

Before the season the Jets signed a bunch of big name free agents/outcasts, so I think Rex will be looked at as a guy who was able to bring them all together and was able to get the most out of them. His vaunted defense is worse from last year so it's tough to consider him a genius.

Jets won't win the Superbowl, not in my lifetime! To even speak of it is blasphemy!
