A non-quote about Rex Ryan :)

Ryan spent 20 minutes Monday afternoon setting his agenda for the week. He boiled the Jets’ playoff game Sunday against New England down to one element, the head coaches, himself versus Bill Belichick. It made for a good story. If only it were true.

Relayed the story line, offensive tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson sighed, shook his head, then buried his head in his hands.

RapSheet - Rex Ryan reminds us on Danny Woodhead: "This guy was in football because of the New York Jets."

Didn't Mangini's crew bring him in?

Edit:

I guess Mike Tannenbaum was alredy there.

And the New York Jets are soon to be out of football because of Danny Woodhead.

Yes. Signed in 2008 as UFA.

Tubby Rex cut him in '09 and in '10.

He should avoid this topic at all costs.

Too funny. It was definitely nice of Rex to give him national exposure to other teams by doing Hard Knocks.

Ryan in just a huge DB, wow

It seems like all the smack was for Jetsdom comsumption and their hidden, worst fears of an actual rematch has become reality.

"Yeah, they killed us again but only because of talent we found".

I dunno.

I guess it's better than Wrecks bragging he got Woodhead's foot in the door.

Only for the fact he affirmatively decided not to eat Woodhead when Woodhead was a member of the Jets and a snack was not readily available for Rex.

I like that!

Aaaaah, well played, sir! ;)

He was joking. It looks bad in print, but when he said it, it was clearly tongue in cheek. He is still a giant douche.

Dude, that's just too good for someone in the "real" media not to steal. Perfect.

I'm sure Shaughnessy will do that tomorrow - - just like the "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" plagiarism column he pulled two days ago.

Its true. The guy was a friggin undrafted FA, the Jets gave him a chance. He would have been back on the roster at some point but the Pats wisely scooped him up.

Also he was cut in 09 because he had a season ending surgery. So to add to that they brought him back even after a serious injury.

Tell me again how they screwed Woodhead?

That sounds right to me. It's just too stupid otherwise...the league is FILLED with guys who got their start one place then caught on someplace else. (Will Nick Folk's points all count for Dallas because he was cut by the Cowboys?)

The Cowboys wouldn't complain. ;)

After all, they cut Folk because of a bad case of the yips, and replaced him with . . . a guy with a bad case of the yips. :bricks:

Mike Holly (WEEI), upon hearing this, immediately
asks, (paraphrasing)
Why not the exceedingly obvious follow up
Why did you get rid of him?

The self satisfied "tough, hard nose, etc"
NY Media continues to go soft on him.

When does it end?
Hopefully, Sunday night.

Pretty Good related item in the WSJ

Say What? Rex Ryan Decoded.
(My subheader:an effort to provide Rex to English translation)

In the end the good column understandably defers to its main audience.
So bring your waders.

But it brings up a number of questions journalists have left unspoken.
Example:
Rex says: "I understand how it's going to (come across) that I took a shot at Brady and all that. He took a slap at me with his antics on the field."

Behind the bluster: Okay, we're slightly confused here. What were those antics, exactly? Throwing for 326 yards and four touchdowns? Mr. Ryan indicated that Mr. Brady pointed at the Jets' sideline after one of those passes, and proceeded to "sprint off the field" after the game. What was he supposed to do? Jog? Walk? Hop aboard a Segway? Lest we forget, this is all calculated. Mr. Ryan enjoys few things more than creating enemies and adversaries as a means of cultivating the Jets' us-against-the-world mentality. Then again, maybe he really does hate Mr. Brady.

Nobody in this thread has said that Ryan or the Jets "screwed Woodhead".

The point is that Ryan screwed the Jets by cutting Woodhead, and therefore Ryan would be better off not bring the subject of Woodhead up in conversation.

In addition it was the Patriots that gave him an actual chance to play in the NFL, so the concept that Ryan should get some sort of 'credit' for Woodhead is a bit of a reach.
