Steve Serby of the NY Post gave seven reasons how the Jets can beat the Pats. Six of the reasons are the biggest bunch of fluff BS that you can ever read. Point #2 is to "Believe". Point #7 is to back up all of Rex's boistering.

This is a great read to show how mindless some of the NY writers really are.

"Believe"....

Funny. Just popped in "Polar Express" for the kids as it's a snow day here in MA.

That's pretty much what it'll take.

Well, if "Believe" gets it done, too bad they don't have Eddie Andelman on their coaching staff. He always BBBBBEEEELLLIIIEEEVVVEEEDD.

I love how this game, err maybe this season has turned into "Please, just please give us ways to beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots". Everybody is sitting here quoting and writing essays on how to attempt to stop this offense, its comical.

Whats even better is how everybody seems to have the magic code or secret of the ooze game plan on how to beat him and gets the same result. A blowout. This season has deemed to be the best, especially with this hunt for the blueprint to beating Tom Brady. I love this honestly.

I can't believe that Serby forgot "Put on your lucky slippers". C'mon Steve, don't you know anything about what it takes to win?

I think it's hysterical that what happened a month ago means nothing while what happened last season or three seasons ago is living proof THIS team can be stopped... Just keep believin' that guys...

"Believe"

You gotta be freaking kidding me. To me this shows that the Pats are in people's heads more than they want to let on. I mean after getting destroyed by the Pats and seeing their team flounder around, getting lucky, you have to resort to "you gotta believe."

Sounds like they are trying to convince themselves that they have a chance.

Better chance of believing that there is filet mignon at the Hot Dog Safari. :D

"Change the Defensive Matchup" is my favorite. He just finished saying they'd have to pressure Brady, which means blitzes. Now he wants to double Branch. That means you have the Sam on Hernandez. Or you cheat with the FS. As if Brady can't read that coverage. Good luck with that.

Still waiting for the article about how to beat the Jets....

apparently every sports writer knows how to beat the Pats but most of the NFL coaches have no clue.

I do believe that there is a defensive scheme or schemes that can slow Brady down. We've seen it happen many times over the past 10 years. Hit 'em. Pre-snap movement. Re-route receivers, etc.

The problem 90% of the time, the actual execution or the scheme doesn't happen or the talent isn't there on defense to ensure that the outcome of the game plan is carried out.

It's silly to boast how Brady is stopped. It seems that the article is a template for future articles. <InsertGreatQBHere>.

Gimme a break.

The Patriots are tough to beat but not unbeatable. When the Patriots are playing mistake free, or close to it, football, I'd say the odds are strongly in their favor.

I don't think it's a good article but I think it's pretty much common sense. The offense really carries the Patriots far more than their defense does. And Brady is the nerve center. He makes everyone around him better. If you want to beat the Pats, you have to hit him and keep hitting him hard. But this is commonly accepted for football, even Bill Walsh, whose West Coast Offense was seen more to his success than anything, always preached about the need to generate an effective pass rush in the later stages of the game.

I don't think the strategy to beat an NFL team once you break down their tendencies is all that hard, I think it's the execution part that's a struggle. The Jets simply don't have a very good pass rush. Then again, neither do the Patriots and many other teams. Teams are more pass happy and it's evolved to a more QB league based on the reality of the salary cap (where QBs are still highly valued but RBs are not in comparison as more teams shift to a RBBC) and the rules which do favor the offense ( offense sells and is marketable to the NFL) more often than not. ( Not just the Pats, but every NFL offense)

It's hard to have a dominant defense when the rules and game become so much more limiting to defensive players in general.

IMHO, it might come down to a bad day by the Patriots O line and a killer day by the Jets D in terms of pass rush that will decide this game. Rex Ryan isn't totally wrong, it might come down to his rushing schemes versus Belichicks adjustments.

During Hard Knocks, I don't think Rex Ryan and Mike Westhoff were wrong. If you aren't sure what you are supposed to do, just start hitting people really hard and good things are probably going to happen. It's a compliment to Brady that the best way to stop him is simply to pummel him.

A couple things this idiot forgot to add were:

-score more points by the end of the game than the other team
-play better defense than the other team
-and say, Pretty Please.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

We've seen this movie and I didn't like it.

SB 42- NY Giants
  • 4 sacks
  • 16 hits
  • 25 pressures

The article only addresses half of the Jets problems....

What are the Jets going to do on offense to score more than 3 points?

After watching the Jets/Colts game...I can't help but think that the Jets are going to try to run the ball....a lot. Sanchez was having serious problems hitting open recievers...in a dome. How's he supposed to handle the conditions on Sunday? Cold, Windy and probably a little slippery?

The Jets might be mistakenly thinking that they can run the ball on anyone. But the Colts run defense was nearly non-existent, and the Patriots are better suited for run defense...thus, I can see the Jets having to throw a lot in the 2nd half...when they are down by 14 points or more.

The offensive game plan for the Jets will very likely be a lot of play action, disguised runs, short passes and gimmicks...i.e. double reverses, half-back options, flea flickers, etc.

I can see Bill Belichick extemely prepared for this with the amount of time he has had to prepare. It would not surprise me to see a lot of hybrid defensive fronts such as 3-5-3 or 4-4-3 and even 2-4-5.

And finally, beware of the cheapshots. I think the Jets know that they have little chance of winning...and if we get up by 2 or 3 TD's...lookout for the Jets to get frustrated and play dirty.

There's no way that THIS Jets front seven can produce THAT much pressure. It's great to look at what the Giants did to the Pats in 2007(8) but there are two flaws with that:

  1. These Jets are not those Giants defensively. They play in the same geographic location, they have "New York" before their team nickname, but that's where the similarities end.

  2. These Pats give Brady more options in total when you consider Branch, Welker, Woodhead, Gronkowski, Hernandez, Tate, etc. It's a different team and in some ways maybe better.

So much baloney. "Start Fast." No sh*t. Gee whiz. Nobody has tried to get the lead on the Pats and keep it yet this season. Must have been the Ravens game when the Pats were down 10 in the 4th quarter and the Patriots won anyway. Rex must have game planned last time to get down three TDs early and mount an epic comeback. Oops.

This obsession with how to beat the Pats is weird. The team that can mount long time consuming drives that produce points, excel in pass coverage by the LBs and DBs, and tackle the Patriots running backs - for 60 minutes - can win. Lapses in execution are the enemy.

As much as I hate Mangini, the Browns were the only team to play all 60 minutes of smashmouth football and execute on defense in the passing game with assistance from a few drops. The Ravens came close but gacked in the last 7 minutes and OT. Jets game 1 was against a different team than the one they met in December 2010 or will on Sunday. The D is far superior and confident and the Pats offense far better with Woodhead, Mankins, Branch and without Maroney, Moss and Faulk.

The Patriots have an offense that puts up a TD or FG in the first quarter and a defense that gets the ball back. So "Start Fast and Stay Thirsty," my friend.
