Note the tilted wording of the SportsNation Poll:

"Which style would you prefer from your coach in dealing with the public?
1) Rex Ryan's outspoken candor
2) Bill Belichick's guarded blandness

ESPN.com Poll Results by State

Not ONE state in the nation votes for the media's darling.

the whole world is Red.

Commies

THAT is awesome! Screw that douchebag.

LOL, that's classic stuff right there. Not even in New Jersey.

Wow! Even jets fans seem to prefer Belichick's style.

The only people who like his style are the people who have to write/talk about his press conferences. Surprise, surprise, these are also the people who's opinions are mass distributed. That's where the idea that "people" prefer Rex Ryan's style to Belichick's comes from, while the real numbers reveal the opposite to be true.

30% of the country likes feet.

Great to see New Hampster in BB's court even more so than the Mass*****

The voters asked themselves which would be better for their team, the big mouth or the no mouth. The answer was obvious.

While I love that even both NY and NJ went with Belichick, how is this backfiring on ESPN? Did one of you make a bet with them and now they'll have to pay?

I think what was meant by that is that based on the way the questions lead, they didn't get the answer they expected.

Usually when ESPN sets up a web poll, the question is at least somewhat debatable, or else it is a waste of time.

Do you really think they would have set up that poll if they knew it would be so one-sided?

On top of that, it's clear that ESPN and any other media house worth a **** will always prefer a coach that provides content, because that's what drives traffic. Belichick fans may know that he provides plenty of content when asked the right questions, but that's not the content a place like ESPN is looking for.

I think you're right. They use the word "candor" to describe Ryan, which has a positive connotation. They use the word "blandness" to describe Belichick, which has a negative connotation.

I'm sure ESPN likes Rex's style and doesn't like BB's...I'll guess that's what shmessy was referring to and I agree.

I love that even New York was a 60/40 divide :)

Thought it would have been closer than that :)

This is perfect.

No doubt some Westchester jester dweeb at ESPN Bristol tried to be cute,
now the little gal is seeing red.
Suitable for Framing.

This is most assuredly Not like the old days.

Out spoken candor sounds a lot nicer than blandness. Its the way they phrased it.

The rest of the world outside of the U.S. is overwhelmingly for Belichick's style as well. The only time that I ever hated his style with a passion is the day that Brady's season-ending injury occurred. I wanted to know, and know quickly, whether he was done for the season or not.

I doubt that. But I suspect most Giants fans choose their former SB winning defensive coordinator over their loudmouth obnoxious stadiummate. And there is a lot more Giants fans than Jets fans in NJ and NY.

Pujo, the wording of the poll makes ESPN's editorial point quite clear. Glancing at the other posts answering your question, it's obvious everyone got the inference.

And the ESPN folks posing the poll got hit with a comeuppance - - no matter the geographical location.
