Do the Jets try the all famous onside kick at the onset?

If I recall right didn't the Packers do an onside kick also?

I just hope the Pats are fully prepared for the onside kick. I wouldn't doubt at all if Rex tries one because of desperation. In fact I fully expect it on their first kickoff.

I wouldn't be surprised to see BB put out the hands team in order to force the Jest to kick it off down the field. It'll mean a decrease in the quality of return blocking, and maybe a "block to the back" call, but the potentially worse starting position is worth it.

Then again, maybe he'll take the chances of having the Jest recover an onside kick at their own 45, or botch the onside kick and give the Pats prime field position. We'll have to see.

They'd be pretty dumb if they did. As you said, the Browns tooled around with their special teams to throw some surprises at us and the Packers did the same thing. I'm pretty sure the Pats will be ready for that this time around.

Based on some of the quotes I'm reading for Rex, I think he is going to try to play it straight and not get too tricky. Just man on man, hat on hat. So I don't think he'll try any of that. Plus, it runs contrary to the Jets uber-confident egos. It's basically conceding we are outmatched and need to resort to trickery to win.

I think that Ryan believes he can beat the Pats playing straight up. Mangini and green bay did not which is what they needed an edge on ST. Outside of the occasional wild cat it should be a pretty average game play calling-wise

Rex will do anything he can to win this game. I see him trying all sorts of gimmicks to give them the edge. Of course it won't do any good.

Exactly. I'd try my luck with a big return from Cromartie rather than chance giving the Pats the ball at the 50 to start the game. I hope by now the Pats would at least keep an eye out for this at all times. I couldn't believe Green Bay fooled them like that.

I wonder if they'll try Holmes out there on punt returns any more. What was that BS with waving people off, then standing over the ball, almost allowing the other team to block you into touching it? That was almost the dumbest play during that game. Of course, Caldwell challenging it, when the replay clearly showed Holmes never touched the ball, then took over as the dumbest play of the game to that point.

Not to begin the game, or the half ... Connelly's return skills have removed this as a viable option in most cases.

Overtime is a different story. With the new OT rules, if the kicking team recovers an onside kick, the receiving team loses its one guaranteed possession. The kicking team essentially "regains" possession, and can win with a field goal. If the kicking team doesn't recover, they are still guaranteed a possession unless they let the offense drive for a touchdown.

If any of the playoff games goes into overtime, I think we'll see an onsides kick at the onset of OT with the new rules.

I don't think they will pull it on opening kickoff (either to start game or on our first possession after they had scored....but expect all kinds of trick plays from them on Sun...because in a lot of ways they will be playing with nothing to lose!....they're going to realize that they are a mismatch early.
I will predict this tho....they will kick an onside kick towards end of game when we are up by 3 scores!

This is why I'm glad the Packers did it to us. We'll be prepared for it now, and it is a move that would make alot of sense against us. The way our offense moves the ball, why not? But now we won't be caught off guard.

The Browns kick was just an awful play by our returners, and the SD was another brainfart by our players and coaches. They should have been more prepared in that situation. This is something that helps us.
