Jets will turn up heat against Patriots in divisional round - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN

I also think the Jets have a chance to go into New England and beat the Patriots on Sunday. The Jets have beaten them before this season, and I really believe it will be a much closer game than that 45-3 game on Monday night in Week 13. The Patriots just ran away with that game.

If you really studied it, that game featured some poor decisions by the Jets early on that got them out of kilter. And once it starts snowballing on a team, it takes away the effort and the enthusiasm of the downtrodden, and it just goes from bad to worse.

I don’t believe the Jets will use the same game plan that worked so well for them against the Colts in the wild-card round. Against New England and Tom Brady, the Jets have to take away those underneath passing routes. And they have to pressure Brady. I believe they will do a lot more blitzing of Brady than they did against Peyton Manning the other night.

I think the Patriots, as well as they closed out the regular season, can be beaten. Now, it would be a shock. They have played so well down the stretch, and most of their wins have been blowouts. But if they get into a tight ballgame, you can never tell what may happen. Some doubt could enter into the minds of some of their younger players who really haven’t been there before. There’s a totally different kind of pressure in the playoffs

I thought the blueprint for beating the Patriots was the ability to get pressure with your front four.

It seems to me that if they need to blitz to bring pressure, that would work to our advantage.

I say, BRING IT ON!

And besides, I'm surprised Jimmy has time for NFL stuff anymore since he's so busy promoting his "male enhancement" drug. :D

Perhaps one of the drug's side effects include "temporary lapses into misjudgment of linear space" aka "bursts of irrationality" :D

I don't think it will be the thrashing of the last meeting either, but you can't look at the first game and say they beat them before. This is a completely different team then the Pats of the first half.

I'd rather have a bunch of young, inexperienced players than a bunch of veterans that have consistently failed to deliver in big games.

Agree. In fact, you could say that both regular season match-ups seemingly mean little now because of the win-or-go home psyche that pervades every team still alive in the playoffs. I believe the Patriots players/coaches have mentioned that when the playoffs start, every team in the tournament is 0-0.

Brady has reverted back to his old form of being the best QB in the NFL against the blitz. If they send more then four, Brady is going to find the open man quickly and those catches will go for big gains. So if the Jets want to blitz, who am I to tell them not to? If they want to play coverage, unfortunately for them, Brady will be ready for that too. The Jets blew their wad on that one in Week 2 and Brady has already seen that look whereas Manning did not.

Phew. Jimmy's going out on a limb with such a brash prediction that it will probably be closer than 45-3.

It will be close for awhile......

About 7 minutes into the game the Pats will score and won't look back :singing:

then 45-3 is possible...as a halftime score!

Pressure TFB and then it's Wes, Gronk, Deion, Woodhead, Hernandez catching quick short passes with one-on-one coverage to beat. I'll take that all day.

Another thing: Johnson makes it all seem so easy, as if all the Jets have to do is tinker with a few loose odds and ends here and there and... VOILA! They have made up 6 scores with ease. He made it seem like all the Jets have to do is blitz Brady and cover the underneath stuff without mentioning whether or not the Jets personnel is CAPABLE of covering all of the Patriots weapons. I am sorry, but he sounds like he is just trying to be contrarian.

While I believe we will win, I'm uneasy, and may not eat much this week. This from a total homer who predicted 14-2 and a Super Bowl victory *before* week 1.

They can't handle our offense in a standard D. The only chance they have is to consistently send 6 and have 5 in man coverage, and hope they get to Brady before he finds someone open. At least it creates more opportunity for chaos, which is what the Jets will need to win this game. They need the ball to bounce their way a lot, and the best way to make that possible is by having the ball bouncing a lot.

I think I read RR quoted as saying he plans to "simplify" the game-plan this week. Does anyone think this is just a bluff or does it signify his plans to curtail or limit all the exotic blitz packages, etc.?

Let me add to my post about being uneasy. I am GLAD to read Matt Patricia and Nick Caserio's comments in response to Rex Ryan's "This is personal" between he and BB. I think humor in this circumstance is not only appropriate, its absolutely necessary, to keep the team from tightening up, or from playing not to lose.

The lighter and looser this team stays in these playoffs, the better, IMHO. Spikes' return can only help this vibe.

The difference between winning and losing is small. What if the Jets scored a TD on that first drive in the second half, how would things have gone?

BB has to get this across to this team that the last game is meaningless. That have to give their 100% for a full 60 minutes if they want to win and if they don't, their football season is over.

I think he might be suffering from priorpism...you know, that four hour stiff....neck!:D
