It truly was a shame to have to lose one of the greatest receivers in the past decade and would have been awesome to see him get a ring.

A man with class you just have to like,I wish him well in his future post career endeavors.

To paraphrase a GOAT :

Which one is the best one??

"The NEXT one"

Holt is the one before the 2001 superbowl that said I have 2 rings, one from 1999 and one from tonight. Much like Proehl saying tonight a dynasty is born... who knew he was a psychic?

I hate to be Debbie Downer but this Patriots team does not have a ring yet. They haven't even won a playoff game yet. Let's settle down boys and take it one game at a time.

Personally I am not crowning this team at all,in fact I expect next weeks game against the Jets not to be won until its within the final 2 minutes

I think a 14-2 team is something special regardless of how far this team goes.

Hardly any if anyone would have predicted such a dominating season with such a tough schedule

If anyone here does not think this years team was something special, even if the team is not crowned a SB champion then you are spoiled.....period.

I've always had a good deal of respect for Holt as an NFL player. Was excited when the Pats signed him and disappointed when he went on IR.

Saw him play live once and he was electrifying. Caught a relatively short pass and just absolutely torched John Lynch and the rest of the Tampa Bay defense at a critical time in the fourth quarter, out running them for about a 70 or 80 yard touchdown.

That was the game when right after that play Tampa Bay was down and out, three or four minutes left, and Warrick Dunn was about to get tackled on third and long. Pitched it back to Shaun King and he somehow runs for a first down, plus they get a 15-yard penalty for a late hit.

Bucs did not go on to win the Super Bowl that year - the Pats did - but they did win it all a year later. But from that game on the Greatest Show on Turf was no longer an immortal opponent; the Pats beat them in the Super Bowl a year later.

Funny thing is the guy I was with was elbowing me to say 'let's go, this game is over, let's beat the crowd' right after the Holt catch.

Yeah, I know that has little or nothing to do with Pats history.

Just something to consider for those that assume that the Pats have already won - or lost - the next game, whether that is next week, or ten years from now.

What's with all the puff articles in favor of the Patriots in recent times? I thought we were believers in Vril, the Galactic Empire and regularly burnt down orphanages according to mediots.

On a serious note it's wonderful to hear seasoned veterans talk so glowingly in favor of what BB and Kraft has built together.

I look at Holt's photo and all I can think about is Holt's jacked up finger, even through his gloves.

Let us all keep in mind that's it's ok for all of us here to say/write,

"We ARE going to beat the Jet's"

Or even

"The Patriots ARE going to win the SB this year"

It's not bad luck and it's not wrong. It's only the Pats PLAYERS who better not say or even think those things. We're not players, so let's not tell each not to say anything.

I just get a kick out of members who are worried about jinxing the Pats. Let me assure you all it can't be done. Whatever is going to happen, is going to happen.

:agree: This. Couldn't have agreed more. There are always people who are very negative and some, who are very positive. Regardless, neither perspectives will impact the outcome of the game. As long as the team themselves doesn't buy into the hype.

I sometimes think some of our members are afraid Belichick will scold them if they say something wrong....

Maybe they forget we're just fans, we're not on the roster.

Is that humor and you are offering a parody of Belichick? If not, fans do not take the field so do not need to adopt the team's philosophy. We can looks back and forward as much as we choose without hurting the team.

Commentary from NFL players, current and former, especially those with inside knowledge of the team like Holt, is generally relevant and useful.

I forgot we signed Holt, good guy and I wish he could have had the chance to contribute.
