I was thinking that Major League Baseball recognizes the winner of its League regular season, while somehow the NFL does not. You win the "Pennant". It is a flag that you can hoist and fly at your Stadium every game the following year for finishing first in your league in the regular season. It is as prestigious as winning the World Series, which is merely a short-series post season triumph.

Why doesn't the NFL do like wise?

There is no recognition whatever for the achievement of winning the regular season title. I believe there should be one. After all it tougher to win more games than anyone else in your 16 team Conference, than triumph in a single elimination, post season tournament, never mind producing the best regular record among the 32 Teams in in the League.

Also Why does the League only have one "named" Trophy, the Lombardi Trophy? They do give a Trophy for wining the AFC Championship Game and the NFC Championship Game in the post season tournament, today. But neither has a "Name" associated with it. They should.

The question is who the two existing trophies should be named for and honored. That is a subject for lots of debate. I'd welcome your opinions, and nominations.

Finally should there be two Conference Regular season trophies; or should there be a single League Regular season Trophy?

The NFC, primarily the older conference could name it Trophy the Lambeau (7), Halas (6), Landry (5), Gibbs (4), or Walsh (3) Trophy. In the AFC based on the AFL, candidates might be named for Don Shula (5,6), Paul Brown (1,8), or Chuck Noll (4). The numbers are the number of Conference Championships won by the Coach. Shula and Brown won some in other conference or league. Brown was associated with the NFL and two upstarts the AAFC and the AFL, so I placed him in the AFC where he founded and owned a Team.

One of the benefits of emphasizing the worth of the best record in the Conference, it gives Teams reasons to play hard at the end of the season. So fans don't pay good money to watch winning clubs play scrubs and not try to win, at the end of the season.

Another reason is still hypothetical. The 7-9 losing record Seahawks qualified, and are in the Tournament. If they won the Super Bowl, how legitimate would it be as the "Best" team in the League? But it could happen.

Discussion any one? Nominations for Names ?

Because none of that matters. Who cares/remembers who had the best regular season record? That 16-0 banner was terrible--is it still up?

As tremendous of an accomplishment that season was, every time I look at it just makes me a bit melancholy.

I still go back and forth on if it is deserving of a banner....

The AFC and NFC trophies have names: the Lamar Hunt Trophy (AFC) and the George Halas Trophy (NFC).

I couldn't care less about "winning" the regular season. All that I care is that finishing at the top gets us a bye and the #1 seed.

IIRC, the Colts give prominent display to their division title flags ....

This is a joke, right?

you get division champ banners. and you could always put up a best record banner if you want.

who cares though...i want super bowl banners.

the Colts hang up "made the playoffs as a wild card team" banners, with division banners, conference banners, etc.

whatever floats your boat

seems cheezy to me though
