ESPN documentary when Jimmy Sexton, Tim Tebow's agent was going over possible draft teams, NE had a green dot signifying draft interest. There was the expected teams, Cleveland, Carolina, etc. But NE? I love BB draft strategy.

Did notice that and thought it was whack. Or was it? I was waiting for Sexton to explain the Patriots interest, but they cut the scene before he did. It's possible Sexton had the Pats marked because he was expecting BB to trade out of that spot and the Broncos to take TeBow at that point.

Also, how weird was it to hear Tebow saying, "Coach McDaniels" on the phone. Less than a year later and Josh is gone.

Typical draft smoke screen by BB."Yeah we're interested in Tim, and we don't care who you tell ;)"

Re: Did anyone notice on the Tim Tebow

maybe it doesnt bother anyone else but why is tebow getting so much coverage. What has he done so far?. i dont get it.

I think I read a blurb where he was a decent college athlete or something. Besides that, nothing.

Go to BroncosCountry and see how much stock their crazy fans are putting into Tebow--he's going to single-handedly save their franchise.

Tebow = $$ for Pat Bowlen, nothing more, and he will squeeze every last nickel out of those fans, as the franchise sinks deeper and deeper.

It's a fantasy world and Tebow gets rushing TDs. "Vanilla Vick"

Exactly....BB had Mangenius and the Jets think they were interested in bust Vern Gholston when all along they wanted Jerod Mayo.

Re: Did anyone notice on the Tim Tebow

When BB took Tebow out to dinner before the draft the entire board was laughing at the obvious smoke screen. Too bad McDaniels bought into it, and was subsequently fired

After the Pats held a workout with Tebow there was a huge buzz. It was paparazzi-like, with breaking news on where the Pats took Tebow to dinner in the North End. The national media was convinced the Pats were going to draft him.

Regardless of what the media was saying, the fact he had a workout with the Pats would be enough for Sexton to include New England as a team that would draft him. Where things got carried away was when fans and the media thought the Pats would draft him with their first pick. If he had fallen to the 3rd or 4th round perhaps the Pats would have drafted him, but I can't imagine them drafting him as high as he went - that doesn't represent a good value for the Pats.

If you're interested, here's a few threads on Tebow during that time period:

Re: Did anyone notice on the Tim Tebow

Of course the Patriots were interested. Tebow is a versatile winner with a tremendous team attitude.
They werent drafting him in the first round. They werent drafting him as the future QB. They were drafting him to fill a special teams and HBack type role, while they tried to see if they could develop him into an NFL QB like they have done with late round picks and UDFA.
Tebow was an UDFA QB who was also a 3rd or 4th round pick as a guy who had the work ethic, intelligence and team attitude BB values, and could contribute in a variety of roles.

I agree with this. Tebow has a great attitude, would have been a great team player with the Patriots. Seems like the Pats would be his type of team too. I bet he was pretty disappointed he didn't get drafted by the Patriots. The chance to learn from Brady and BB would have done wonders for him.

Two National Championships = Nothing?

Re: Did anyone notice on the Tim Tebow

FWIW, Tebow had a higher TD %age, a higher YPA mark, a higher pass-for-1st down %age, and a higher 20+-yard pass %age than Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford. . . .

Re: Did anyone notice on the Tim Tebow

After having just watched that, I'm more convinced than ever that BB played McDaniels and the Broncos like a Stradivarius in regards to Tebow in the last draft. The agent mentioned 'New England being just ahead of Denver is interesting' after one trade and all along he was saying that Denver was the team with the most interest in Tebow. Almost all his information was coming from someone within the Broncos organization.

Guess what happens next: Denver trades up, ahead of the Pats. Broncos draft Tebow, which means there is now one less team for the Pats to compete with for the players the Pats are truly interested in.

What money is Tebow going to make them exactly? They don't have a problem with attendance. Merchandise revenue is shared. I'm probably missing something but I don't see how he's going to help make them money

He won the ROTW award, when Gronk should have!!!

Re: Did anyone notice on the Tim Tebow

I don't think BB played the Broncos. Tim Tebow is perfect for the Colorado Springs crowd. If you may recall during the 2007 World Series when the Sox played the Rockies quite a bit was made about how the Rockies had adopted a Christian locker room and were marketing themselves as a faith based/family team in a world of out of control athletes. I'm sure Bowlen figured he could play the same angle.
