Forget about the last 10 years for a moment. If you had to select a coach for the next 10 years, whom would you pick, Ryan or Belichick?

Wow... them Jets bloggers sure are deep thinkers. You know, now that he mentions it, if you take those 10 years leading up to 9-11 out of the equation, I guess Bin Laden wouldn't really be considered that bad of a guy!

Wow... them Jets bloggers sure are deep thinkers. You know, now that he mentions it, if you take those 10 years leading up to 9-11 out of the equation, I guess Bin Laden wouldn't really be considered that bad of a guy!

Sad thing is after week 2 I am sure many of the Pats faithful had these same doubts about Belichick.

Am embarassing playoff exit last year at home, years of weak drafts and now Ryan getting 2 of 3 from him and a leg up in the division race. The article was not really that far fetched.

Its amazing how fast the Pats have turned it all around. I think this is Belichicks best coaching year yet. The ability to field a team of cast offs and rookies and play the type of football the Pats have been doing is amazing.

With all that said I still want a rematch in Foxboro. To be the best you have to beat the best.

Turned WHAT around????

Last year the Pats went 10-6 and won the division.

The year before, they lost the franchise QB in the first 5 minutes of the season and went 11-5 with a backup that hadn't started since High School.

The year before that they merely went 18-1.

......and on and on and on......

Please let us all in on the secret of what you mean by "turning it around".

You wouldn't even begin to know what it feels like to have a team which considers 10-6 an "off year".

No. Your post was as if to imply the Jets had overtaken the Pats and suprisingly the Pats got it back. It never left.

Really having witnessed BB plug players into his system for 10 years, its not at all surprising really.
Since 2003 the Pats have won 14 or more games in HALF of the seasons. Of course the other 4 were all 10+ as well.

Over all of those years, he has added players, added rookies and overcome injuries. The 03 and 04 teams were the most injured SB winners in history.

The fact of the matter is that BB puts together a team that allows him plug the players in to the system that when all goes wrong he wins at least 10 games (each of the ''only' 10 win seasons also had a wk 17 close loss with the starters on the bench and a division wrapped up) and when things go right he wins 14+.

It doesnt take a homer or a psychic to realize what BB does, and what he knows and that when Joe Messageboard tries to come here and predict doom, he is wrong.

The only person I doubted after week two was Randy Moss...

2001 was an equal coaching job as this year, taking castaways and rebuilding an entire franchise and winning a superbowl with less talent than we are fielding today.

If you want a rematch in Foxboro to get beat down hard again with your dysfunctional offense and silly self promoting hype machine than go ahead and beat Indy in Indy.

Rex has a very weird way of thinking - very twisted

This week alone he's talking about how he takes it "personally" that the Colts beat them in the playoffs last year - seemingly forgetting that the only reason the Jets were in the playoffs in the first place is because the Colts let them win in Week 17 to give them a 9-7 record instead of the mediocre 8-8 they should have been.

We see it elsewhere in bold talk and predictions he can't back up - setting himself up for a downfall even before the season started by stating in writing on the ESPN bus they were "soon to be champs"

The pundits are sure to turn that into "soon to be chumps" upon their exit from the playoffs

In some ways though he's got nothing to lose - more bold tasteless predictions won't change the fact that he's already the punchline to numerous jokes

The only way Coach Punchline turns that around is to win it all right now

Somehow, NE has managed to win 14 games with one of the youngest rosters in the league during what should have been a rebuilding year. This is not "quality depth management" but rather "throwing spaghetti against the wall." Shonka does cite examples of high round Patriot picks that didn't pan out (Maroney, Jackson), but nary a mention of Vernon Gholston.

Meanwhile, the more learned jets have stocked the roster with expensive veterans and traded up for higher (fewer yet more expensive) draft picks. This approach has netted them a coveted wild card play off berth. They "must be doing something right."

Whatever.

I suppose there's really no chance at all that the aging, expensive jet veterans will not be magically replaced by the savvy draft picks that the team has made to plan for the future. On the other hand, it is really just pure luck that has enabled the Patriots to almost completely restock their roster in two years.

So there's really no other conclusion than that the jets have a very bright future indeed while Bill Belichick's Patriots must continue to randomly (and I suppose dumbly) heave noodles against the wall and hope for the best.

His job on the line, 5-11 last year, no feature running back, only one feature reciever (who gets cut from the team shortly), and at quarterback, a gunslinger who, while talented, did not suit the offence and was on the decline (Bledsoe). Given that the article goes on to note that (A) the Patriots have had more than three times as many picks as the JEST in 2009 and 2010, and (B) the JEST have gotten almost nothing out of the 2010 draft so far, I agree that it's a compliment, not snark.
