OT: Marvin Lewis to return with Bengals

SI's Don Banks relayed an interesting point by an NFL type re: the Texans:

One very prescient league source said this about Kubiak's Texans: "They kind of reflect the mentality of a backup quarterback, which is what Kubiak was in his NFL career. When the pressure's on, they don't really play well. But when the pressure's off, they can look great and really surprise you. That's kind of how it has been for the Texans the past few years.''

Black Monday in NFL brings another Raiders guessing game - Don Banks - SI.com

Speechless.....Dumbfounded......What's next.....A Brady-like extension for Carson Palmer?

EDIT:All is forgiven,if they trade Chad Ochocinco to the pats:rocker:

The Bengals continue to be a joke of a franchise.

Del Rio is just as bad IMO. Regardless, I just wanted Mangini fired so my "coaching offseason" is complete already.

My guess is Mike Brown talked down Lewis' salary in a new deal and Brown will never give up saving money for wins. He is the Jeremy Jacobs of the NFL. While other owners strive for Lombardi trophies, he strives for profit margins. Everyone owner wants to make money, but most are willing to part with a bit of money to win. Brown doesn't care.

I feel bad for Bengals fans. The guy is notoriously cheap and will always look to save a buck no matter if it is to the detriment to the team. That is why he won't hire a GM or a decent sized scouting department or resign a lot of their biggest free agents. He has tarnished the legacy his father built.

Brown would never pay anyone, including Brady, Brady type of money. That is why Lewis is still around most likely. I wouldn't be surprised if Lewis is the lowest paid head coach in the NFL right now. I am betting that is how he kept his job.

I've been on my soapbox about this in two other threads already. I cannot believe this nonsense. The NFL needs to contract this embarrassment of a franchise or at least take it away from Mike Brown. This man is such an idiot. If all you care about is making money, major league pro sports is not the business for you. You can still turn a profit, to be sure, but if you're only concerned about the bottom line you will not produce a champion. Anybody who buys Bungles season tickets needs to have their head examined.

Thank God for Robert Kraft! :rocker:

Wasn't his contract up?

Why has he stayed? He could get a job somewhere else no doubt. Plenty of teams already looking.

He must have some blackmail material on the Bengals owner or something there is no other reason he still has a job.

No question, he's the league's biggest tightwad. But even so...doesn't he want to sell ANY Bengals merchandise? At this point the mood in Bengals land has to be "anybody but Marvin." There are plenty of candidates out there who are desperate for their chance at an HC job and would work for peanuts. Hiring one of them would at least give fans a momentary ray of hope -- long enough to buy some orange & black earmuffs or something, don't you think? :confused2:

There really does need to be a minimum competency requirement for owners.

Merchandise is a pooled revenue throughout the league. Brown receives money for Patriots, Cowboys, Steelers, etc. merchandise. What does he care if he sells Carson Palmer jerseys when he gets a piece of Tom Brady jerseys?

I have read that most owners hate Brown because he is always crying poor mouth, but no owner spends less on his team (he has a sweetheart deal with Cincy for his stadium) and benefits more from the pooled league revenues than he does.

Ah, thanks -- I always get the pooled/unpooled bits mixed up.

Check your sarcasm-meter:attention:

A Ralph Wilson style owner

I knew you were being sarcastic. Just pointing out that Brown's stupid moves are more likely because he is a tight-wad more than he is an idiot. Your sarcastic comment is better suited for a moron like Daniel Snyder who might actually give Carson Palmer a Brady-like contract.

Why don't they promote Mike Zimmer? at least give the Bengals fans some hope.
