Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

Well, well, well. 16 games in the books and the Patriots defense - also known as the worst defense in the history of the NFL elsewhere on this board - just finished the regular season at 19.6 points per game and the Jets finished at 19.0. The Pats have given up 313 and the Jets have given up 304 total points - both most likely top ten defenses when week 17 is complete.

Congrats to this Patriot defense. It's too bad that the Fins got that late TD on the interference and the circus catch or the Pats would have allowed exactly two more points all season than the Jets. This defense is so improved and so ready for these playoffs.

Belichick should get coach of the year for what he's accomplished with this young and hungry team.

313 - 7 = 306 > 304

In my opinion, this is just another reason why this should be considered BB's best coaching job and one of the reasons he should be coach of the year.

Re: Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

313 - 7 = 306 > 304

Is this the first logic-based response on the board that has 100% numbers and no characters or alphabets?

If yes, good job my friend. :)

how many of those points were pick sixes by sanchez?

Re: Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

If anybody has the time i'd love to see what the PPG would be for both the Jets and and Pats up to the end of the 3rd quarters.

The reason id love to know is because a bucket load of points we gave up were in the 4th quarter when the game was already well and truly won.

Re: Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

It's amazing how far this young defense has come. Was really impressed to see how hard they played today with nothing on the line. It's part of the maturation process. Hopefully they can continue in the play-offs.

Re: Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

The Patriots defense is clearly playing at another level than most of the NFL.

I'm just going to enjoy hearing the talking zombies on TV looking at stats and pointing out how weak we are on defense.

Yup. we're terrible.

Re: Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

You listen to Jets fans and they say they don't know how the Pats can win the Super Bowl with their defense. What does that say about the Jets' defense. One and done?!?

Re: Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

As said before..the Jets are not a good team this year...lucky

Ironic. Most people thought the Patriots were a 10-6 or 11-5 team and probably a wild card and many thought the Jets were the 13-3 or 14-2 team. Not so fast, my friend.

The Jets backed in last week as the 6th seed and face going on the road next week to face a team with an inferior record (Chiefs 10-6 or the Colts at 10-6 or 9-7 - not over in Indy at this moment.) It's hard to imagine that they won't be an underdog to either team that has a multi-dimensional offense (now that Addai is back.)

Bill Belichick will enjoy spending next weekend with us on his couch, dropping pearls on patsfans.com gameday threads and watching Rex sweat.

BB will go to a gameday thread and then wonder why the hell Pats fans deserve to have a SB caliber team.

Nah. He'll have a few brewskis and get into it. He dresses like he'd fit right in.

Points Conceded Through 3 Quarters:

Jets: 13.9 ppg
Patriots: 12.9 ppg.

But that stat doesn't mean much to me, to be honest. It's more important that our defense can close out games in the 4th quarter.

We've been doing that better lately.

Its a marathon not a sprint :)

COngrats to the Young Defensive PLayers!

Absolutely Paddy, i have to agree.

The only thing id say is that the the Colts game aside the 4th quarters where we did give up lots of points were already dead and i think the defense werent completely to blame for the points given up. Techincally the defense did close out all them games as we still won them but i definitely agree with what you say.

Re: Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

Defense is definitely playing at a level that was not expected. Each game, thy get better and better especially the secondary. They should do well in the playoffs.

Re: Final 2010 PPG: Jets: 19.0 - Patriots 19.6

Enough with the comparison to the Jets.

This defense was a "top 5" last year and they couldn't hold this year's defense's jock.

Ranking high in points per game is great but it doesn't tell the whole story like the 2009 defense did.

And I could care less where they rank in yards per game. It's the worst way to rank defenses.

The only stats that matter are the amount of turnovers you can create and coming up big in critical situations.

The Pats have done that all season long and I believe their defense leads the league in interceptions, TD's and turnovers.

That is what wins super bowls.
