Rapaport: Pryor to return, Brace to go on IR when Spikes returns

Been stewing over this.

I think this is a strategic move by BB. I remember seeing Brace on the sidelines at the end of the Buffalo game yucking it up with his fellow teammates. He was all smiles and certainly seemed like he was not in a tremendous amount of pain.

I do think BB sees value in Brace but my gut tells me he wants to use his roster spot for a player and a position that to him, will be more critical in the playoffs (pass rusher, extra DB, special teams, etc.) than another big body to stop the run.

I may be giving BB a little too much credit here and could be wrong about the severity of Brace's injury but I sure wouldn't put it past him to make this kind of shrewd move.

I am confident in saying that's not the case.

That sucks. Apart from Vince, might have been our best run stuffer on the DL.

It's not the end of the world, but the health of the DL is becoming a major factor.

Baltimore
Pittsburgh
New York
Kansas City

Given that quartet, I'm skeptical of your position on this.

considering the success the packers had running the ball on us, this is not good news at all with better running teams coming in the playoffs.

Brace is made of glass thread in...5...4....3...2...1....

Probobly. He had low snap counts vs BAL, Pitt and the 1st Jets game but did play in over 1/2 the snaps in the 2nd Jets game....

Yep. It's not like we have an excess of big superstrong DL if another one gets hurt.

Wilfork
Pryor
Warren
Love
Deaderick
Cohen
Wright*

All are over 300lbs.

No question that the collective unit is better with Brace, but considering the team played 4-5 D-linemen before Pryor and Wright went down, what you are saying is inaccurate. They have superstrong depth- the question is the quality of it.

I just wish we knew what Deaderick's deal is. He played 24 of 78 snaps vs Pitt (Brace played 17) and has been pretty much MIA since. Rookie wall perhaps? Warren's snap count has also been low these past couple of games as well.

How can this be a strategic positional move when off-the-street DT Cohen remains on the roster in his place?

Hate to be a Brace basher....but

Slow to learn playbook as rookie....out of shape as a sophmore

sprinkle in injuries and....

Disappointed so far.....

BB is not done yet. Need tomorrow's game to play out.

Still, who would you cut when Wright's status is still unclear? You still need want to have two interior sub rushers on the line.

It's an interesting theory. We all speculate here, and do not know how the coaching staff really views a player who is on a fence. I always think of Jimmy Johnson during that run in Dallas. Before each years playoff's, he would cut a player to send a message. It's always possible he see's Brace as needing big-time motivation.

Last year was definitely a disappointment, but he's made huge strides this season and started several games for us. He was probably our best run stopper apart from Vince. He's come a long way from last season though. Still has a long way to go.

Frankly, I think my theory is BS but as I've said, seeing Brace on the sidelines chuckling and then 6 days later without practicing and hes IR'd doesn't add up. I'm not saying he was slacking or anything. I look at it purely from the standpoint of BB potentially seeing greater needs elsewhere and certain players playing better. We know TBCs groin is hurting. Does BB send Eric Moore to the street over Brace? Not the way he has been playing IMO.

Brace to IR...

According to reports...
Source: New England Patriots DE Ron Brace to IR; LB Brandon Spikes to return - ESPN Boston
Didn't see a thread for this, so if one exists, I apologize...

Get ready for the media to frame this as doom and gloom, and now there's NO WAY the Pats defenseive line has enough depth to win a playoff game...just wait...it'll be the same people who said Brace was a wasted pick...I f#cking hate the Boston sports media...
