His fourth- and fifth-year salaries would rise to $2.3 million and $2.9 million for a total package of $15.6 million. (If he is a quarterback, he would be paid $4.3 million in year six.) The first pick would still be paid well, but at a much more reasonable level than under the current system.”


This would be interesting figures, especially considering Bradford signed Six year, $78 million dollar deal with $50 million guaranteed.

Also, I wonder if the rookie wage scale ISN'T a done deal as of draft time, if there would still be a flood of talent into the draft. I'm sure that there will be an influx of guys if it isn't finalized, but there would definately be more guys that would come out if it WAS a done deal. Good timing with the number of high picks the Pats have.

They have to declare in Feb for the combine and workouts (??) I think - So it's not like they can wait until the day of the draft and then say, Ok - I'm coming out.

I may be wrong, but I thought that was the process.

As I said, "we've got essentially THREE #1 picks," meaning "what amounts to" or "virtually" or "practically." Which we do.

5 stars. Could not agree more. Tired of watching Kraft let Polian & Goodell mold (sic) the league into their personal perverted vision. Influential owners need to step up and ensure that there is a season next year and that juniors are motivated to declare for the draft. If Kraft through inaction lets there be a lockout and pisses away one of the not many productive years Brady has left in his career, I will be wicked pissed.

Technically you are right. The poster was trying to say that with the assumed influx of underclassmen, over 33 players will have "1st rd grades". Thats all.

33 is essentially a first because one or more talents widely graded there remains until they begin round two which they now don't commence until day two. The teams picking at the open that day likely end up with either first round talent or picks that have increased in value because of the 24 hour period allowing for all teams to reset their boards and mull trade scenarios.

As for there being a rookie scale, it's going to exist whether the CBA gets done before the draft or not because either they won't get signed during a lockout and will have to wait until a new CBA which will have a scale gets implemented or the league will go on following a decertification of the NFLPA and owners will implement rules included in their last best offer to the now defunct union which will absolutely include a rookie wage scale...

A savvy older agent recently called Saban out over his transparent comments that college players with remaining eligibility should defer in declaring for just that reason, the wage scale is inevitable in 2011 - even the players union is on board with it, they just have yet to agree with owners on how to redistribute that money. Kinda like they are onboard with the 18 game schedule pending how big a cut they can get for players and how many more player contracts they can get teams to add and how many voluntary or involuntary OTA's they can eliminate.

...and the Patriots are in a position to capitalize. They can grab players that they want AND (knowing their history) wheel and deal so that there's always options for upcoming drafts.

...and I think I heard/read that Brady wants to play for 5 more years.
