Or as much as he is willing to that is. He mocked the idea of having the captain patches. First says "I have seen plenty of games where there were captains and no patches and it seemed like everything was fine. I guess it is one of the new improvements, new patches new overtime rules and all that."

think he respects roger goodell at all? LOL

I would cut off my left nut to read a thorough autobiography of BB post retirement. Stuff like his opinion of Commissioner Clouseau would be priceless.

It goes beyond just Goodell. He's the face of the league, but that's because he has the support of a majority of the ownership. For better or worse, it's hard not to make money with an NFL team (anywhere except Buffalo), and I think we have a bunch of owners who haven't had to do anything to earn their success other than being lucky enough to have the money to invest in the first place (born on third base and think they hit a triple, as the saying goes).

Lot of rich, elderly guys who were at the center of their business universe for their whole lives. They're going to put their stamp on the NFL, no matter how little it needs it.

Seems he did try it out tho:

Prior to this fall, only three teams in league history -- the 1983 Cowboys, the 1992 Chargers and the 1994 Patriots -- designated captains with either patches, lettering or insignia, according to Paul Lukas, who maintains the Uni Watch blog.

Goodell hasn't earned any respect from anyone who counts. He's the appointed lapdog for the NFL. Folks will give him all the lip service and respect required of his office, but in real life, he's just a JETS FO guy elevated to a position based upon his ability to mouth the words and platitudes given to him by the owners.

He's a suit with a big mouth. The NFL could do better. Lots better.

Slams? That's a pretty hyperbolic way of putting it.

More like, he "tweaked" the NFL. BB's a funnier guy than he's given credit for; these little barbs of his are hardly uncommon.

Yeah, but I think they speak volumes. I mean BB didn't say much of anything about Rex when he was flapping his gums non-stop. The fact BB even mentioned it is kind of a big deal for a guy who holds so much close to his vest.

Goodell is the Bettman of the NFL; another suit who never played the game and knows nothing about how to run a sports league. Look how Bettman ****ed up the NHL under his tenure.

Doesn't the same go for David Stern? I haven't done any research on it but it's hard to imagine that short stubby little dude playing pro basketball.

Ah, right you are! Wasn't even thinking.

And look what's happened to the NBA under his tenure. I stopped watching years ago.

Is there a link or something to explain this?

I've no clue what yall are talkin about...

I'm a big NBA guy and I give a ton of credit to Stern for being smart enough to capitalize on the talent in the league and market it accordingly to fans- specifically Bird, Magic and Jordan. Not sure what would have happened if those guys never showed up but I do give Stern credit for ridding the league of a drug culture that kept a lot of fans away and selling the league as a marketing device to corporate America.

Rozelle did the same thing.

I don't follow the NBA much myself, though me and a friend are talking about going to a Bucks game this season (if our wives will let us, that is. ;) ) But I do know a lot of fans seem less than pleased with Stern's performance, and there is an overall consensus that their league will almost certainly have a lockout next season, while the NFL has a better chance of avoiding one.

One thing that blows my mind about the NBA is that they have much smaller team rosters than the NFL, and play far more games in their season, and yet they have the highest average ticket price of the four major leagues.
