The last of these threads for the year.

Dolphins (7-8) at Patriots (13-2) - Game is meaningless and an argument could be made we should be rooting for the Dolphins cause if the Raiders win a Dolphins win will help with the pick. But even as much as I care about the picks. I can't root against the Patriots for some stinking draft spot.

Bills (4-11) at Jets (10-5), Meaningless game, both for playoff implications and are picks. But I root against the stinking toe suckers out of habit. I am not gonna stop now.

Raiders (7-8) at Chiefs (10-5), Our first round draft pick.

Giants (9-6) at Redskins (6-9) Helps our first round pick.

Titans (6-9) at Colts (9-6) - Helps our first round pick. Plus the rooting interest of the "I fear Peyton" whimps.

Vikings (6-9)
at Lions (5-10) helps our first round pick. But hurts our 3rd round pick. If Oakland is winning big start rooting for the Lions.

Jaguars (8-7) at Texans (5-10), Could help our 1st round pick. Plus the rooting interest of the "I fear Peyton" nimbies.

Bears (11-4) at Packers (9-6), don't care.

Bengals (4-11) at Ravens (11-4), game won't affect any picks, but it is nice to see a playoff team go into the playoff cold.

Steelers (11-4) at Browns (5-10), see above. plus might help our third round pick.

Buccaneers (9-6) at Saints (11-4), don't care

Cardinals (5-10) at 49ers (5-10), don't care

Chargers (8-7) at Broncos (4-11), don't care

Cowboys (5-10) at Eagles (10-5), might help with 3rd round pick.

Panthers (2-13) at Falcons (12-3), pick is locked after rooting against the team all season long, I feel I owe to them to root for them for once.

Rams (7-8) at Seahawks (6-9), There have been at least one 8-8 team to make the playoffs. I rooting for the first losing to team to do it.

muahahahaha!

Can't believe it's Week 17 already. Fastest. Season. Ever.

I copied this from the "Raiders pick scenarios" thread, so assuming it is correct I can figure out which 6-9 teams could pass the Raiders in the final standings used for draft order. Looks like it would be all four of the 6-9 teams - the Redskins, Vikings, Titans and Seahawks. I guess whichever NFCW team loses Sunday night will pick before Oakland. The only other 7-win team is the Dolphins but I'm not going to root for the Pats to lose, even if it is a meaningless game.

Also, I'll go ahead and root for the Packers to win because their fans that were here this season were pretty cool, and that would keep the Giants out of the playoffs.

Just did some quick math on strength of schedule, which is the first tiebreaker for draft order. The Raiders had a pretty easy schedule, so they "win" the tiebreaker against everyone except the Rams and Jags. Thus, here are the best and worst case scenarios:

Best Case:
Raiders lose to KC
Redskins beat Giants
Vikings beat Lions
Titans beat Colts
Dolphins result irrelevant in this scenario.

Raiders finish 7-9 and pick 12th due to "winning" tiebreaker vs. Redskins, Dolphins, Vikings and Titans.

Worst Case:
Raiders beat KC
Pats beat Dolphins
Texans beat Jags.

Raiders finish 8-8 and pick 17th due to "losing" tiebreaker to Jags.

As an added bonus, it helps the first- and third-round picks! :)

Want Bucs to win so that the locals have someone in the playoffs, not that they deserve it whining about blackouts with 30,000 unsold seats in a home game with the playoffs on the line. Bucs won.

Love to see Petey Carroll SEA lose to a rookie QB StL

Want SD to win so that they draft later; they're a threat should they ever change management

I'm sad this will be the last thread of the season. I loved reading these threads every week.

Great work!

that best case scenerio looks almost viable except there is no way the Colts lose to the Titans.

Dolphins (7-8) at Patriots (13-2) - I will never root against the Pats, even if it would help our pick

Bills (4-11) at Jets (10-5), Meaningless game, both for playoff implications and are picks. But I root against the stinking toe suckers out of habit. I am not gonna stop now.

Raiders (7-8) at Chiefs (10-5), Now that we have the #1 seed locked, I'll think about the draft pick.

Giants (9-6) at Redskins (6-9) See above.

Titans (6-9) at Colts (9-6) Never root for Indy unless it helps us.

Vikings (6-9) at Lions (5-10) helps our first round pick. But hurts our 3rd round pick. If Oakland is winning big start rooting for the Lions.

Jaguars (8-7) at Texans (5-10) Possibly keep Colts out of the playoffs.

Bears (11-4) at Packers (9-6), Don't care.

Bengals (4-11) at Ravens (11-4) Don't care

Steelers (11-4) at Browns (5-10) Don't care

Buccaneers (9-6) at Saints (11-4), Don't care

Cardinals (5-10) at 49ers (5-10), Don't care

Chargers (8-7) at Broncos (4-11), Don't care

Cowboys (5-10) at Eagles (10-5) Don't care

Panthers (2-13) at Falcons (12-3) Don't care

Rams (7-8) at Seahawks (6-9) a 7-9 team in the playoffs would be an absolute joke...

Thank you TheGodInAGreyHoodie for making these threads all season. They were always a highlight in the forum. Don't be shy about making some playoff ones too :)

This doesn't have to be the last thread this year. Post season games may not affect draft picks, but they do affect who we will face.

Actually the Saints playoff games do affect our 6th round pick. The sooner they are eliminated the better.

Yes thanks for making these threads! I do pull this thread up on my iPad during some of the games just to make sure I'm not "rooting stupid".

The Seahawks cannot catch the Raiders by winning since the Seahawks would get the NFC West by winning, but the Rams' opponents will have a lower winning percentage than the Raiders'.

If Minnesota loses, then Seattle winning helps with the Vikings pick. Ideally though, Oakland loses and Minnesota wins and catches them. That WILL make Oakland's pick higher by 1.

Ditto. Let's hope Belichick gets some more picks from other teams this year so we can have fun doing this again next year.

My only gripe...For Whom Should We Root?

I don't. The NFC West is a joke. At LEAST a .500 postseason team is not unprecedented. I know it's just the luck of the draw that for some reason has put the NFC West in the toilet this year. I think the fact that the winner gets to HOST a game is ridiculous. Especially with the Saints potentially going 12-4 and having to go on the road for three games. I'm not saying I'd change the system, because this sort of thing is going to happen every now and then with only four teams in a division. By anyone's sane reasoning however, NO 7-9 team should be playing in a postseason game.

+1 these were a must read every week for me.

Makes me wish I didn't wait for week 17 to start reading these. From the thread title, I just thought "nobody can tell me who to root for."

I root based completely on emotion. When I decide to root for a team for some external reason, I just can't do it.

This. :)

I like these threads and read them every week, but I have my own reasons for wanting X to win over Y. Some teams I always tend to favor over others, but there are times when I can root for or against them, namely who they might be playing or other extraneous factors (I like/don't like the city or a certain player or whatever.) The draft seems like forever in the future, though like everything else it'll probably be here before you know it.
